Volkswagen and the IG Metall union  struck a wage deal

A wage deal between Volkswagen AG and the IG Metall union has been arrived at, affecting 95,000 staff in six western German plants, says Autonews. The 4.2% pay rise plus one-off payments will take effect on Jan. 1 as part of an 18-month accord, which runs until the end of January 2011. For the first time ever, VW agreed to provide performance-related pay from 2011. The many details will be sorted out by the end of September 2010. However, it‚ anticipated that it should be worth around 100 euros or $147 per month. This pay increase for VW's in-house staff is in line with what all other workers in the German engineering sector are getting.
