If insider reports are to be believed, Volkswagen is closing in on procuring a small stake in Suzuki. Several months ago, Manager Magazin in Germany reported VW chairman Ferdinand Piech's interest in Suzuki. However, Osamu Suzuki, CEO of Suzuki, denied this possibility. VW Chief Executive Martin Winterkorn has said that it would be interesting to partner with Suzuki because of its competency in small cars. The German magazine suggests that Volkswagen would either purchase a 10% stake in Suzuki or enter into a joint venture for the production of small cars for emerging markets. At the moment, VW's hands are full with the merger plans with Porsche. On the other hand, there's Renault, which is said to be also interested to work with Suzuki on small car projects.
