A recent report from the Economic Times claims that Volkswagen AG may extend its global partnership with Suzuki Motor Co., which has manufacturing and design facilities in India. The newspaper revealed that top Volkswagen officials went to the Maruti Suzuki factory and talked with senior management of India's largest car maker.
The talks reported centered on sharing product designing or rebadging cars. Maruti Suzuki Chairman R.C. Bhargava said that a tie-up with VW would have to be discussed with Suzuki Motor, which owns 54% of the Indian firm. It can be recalled that earlier this year, Volkswagen took a 19.9% stake in Suzuki. [via autonews - sub. required]
