Volkswagen might enter Formula One

If costs go down, parent company Volkswagen might enter Formula One, according to Reinhold Carl, managing director of Audi Singapore. While chatting with a reporter from the Straits Times newspaper, Carl mused that even while budgets are dropping, teams would still have to fork out "well over a hundred million euros" for an annual F1 program. Carl explained that it will be more manageable if the cost is lower; however, he conceded that the gains from entering the grand prix grid are vague nevertheless. So far, Jaguar, Honda and BMW have pulled out; while there are rumors that Toyota and Renault will soon follow. [via worldcarfans]
