Volkswagen Routan giveaway at the Oprah Winfrey Show

Two Volkswagen Routan minivans will be given at the Oprah Winfrey Show, a stunt intended to boost awareness of the model which has been languishing under bad sales. The minivan is a rebadged Dodge Grand Caravan. Sales of the minivan have been so poor that no unit has been made since January. Production however will resume in August. The promotional stunt is reminiscent of Oprah's 2004 show which gave away 278 Pontiac G6 models. While not expected to generate as much noise, the minivan giveaway could still do much to raise showroom traffic and improve on sales in May which peaked at 1,390 and June's record of 2,099 units sold.
