Volkswagen shows small increase in sales

The global sales of VW Group were up by 1.5 percent in May on a year-on-year basis, and this was helped in part by the success of the latest sixth-generation VW Golf. The carmaker saw large sales in both China and Germany, with a global total of 556,700 units sold.
The sales of Volkswagen as an individual brand were up 10 percent, although Skoda and Seat were down 7.3 and 10 percent, correspondingly. In Germany, where there is a strong demand for the new Golf, Group sales were up 36 percent. The carmaker sees its sales success helped by a burgeoning young product range as well as high residual value of their used vehicles. Except for China, the passenger markets of the world are not yet in any stage of recovery and it is not yet definitive if the markets have already hit the bottom in the ongoing global crisis. Another carmaker who experienced a year-on-year all time high sales for May in the Chinese market is Mercedes-Benz. The carmaker has recorded record sales in three successive months with 86 percent to 5200 for the month of May.
