Volkswagen unveils the new Beetle Convertible

2013 Vw Beetle Convertible

Volkswagen unveiled today the 2013 Beetle Convertible ahead of the 2012 LA Auto Show. The new car promises to bring together the modern technology and the highest standards of quality with the emotional legacy of the car’s ‘forefather’. As expected, the Beetle doesn’t feature any fancy hard top and will be seen with the tradition soft top, which lies very flat when opened in order to enable good vision to the rear. Just like on any other vehicle, the soft top can be opened and closed entirely automatically within around 10 seconds and up to driving speed of 30mph. Moreover, the new Beetle Convertible comes as standard with a soft-top cover, which tucks the opened top neatly away.

The interior offers a compact instrument panel with extra large round instrument cluster and several nostalgic elements such as the additional glove box, create a markedly different design inside the new Beetle Convertible as well. In order to provide added safety in case of a rollover accident, the new Beetle features an active rollover protection system, consisting of two extendable modules fitted inside the vehicle in concealed fashion behind the back of the rear bench seat.

So, in case of an accident, these models are activated via the central airbag triggering unit in order to provide protection for the occupants of all four seats. Another extra safety feature is front and head-thorax-airbags that are standard equipment. Under the hood, we find seven engine options: the 1.2-liter TSI is offered as an entry-level engine and delivers 77 kW/ 105 PSI; the 1.4-liter TSI delivers 118 kW/160 hp; the 2.0-liter TSI engine delivers 147 kW/200 hp; the 1.6-liter diesel engine delivers 77 kW/105 hp (including as a BMT version); the 2.0-liter TDI comes with 103 kW/140 hp. Pricing starts at €21,350 in Germany and the car can be ordered beginning in November!
