Volkswagen US sales climbed 14.9% to 19,943 units in September 2010

After delivering 19,943 units last month, Volkswagen’s sales in September rose by 14.9% compared to the same month the previous year. Last August, VW’s sales had fallen by nearly 8% compared to the previous year’s sales which benefited from the Cash for Clunkers program. VW sold 10,769 units of the Jetta sedan and wagon, a 12.9% increase from last year. The Jetta models make more than half of total sales.
What makes it more impressive is the fact that the 2011 model didn't arrive at dealerships until late in the month. When combined, Golf and GTI sales totaled 1934, a 252.9% increase from last year. Sales of the Tiguan grew by 49.7%. So did the Routan with a 33.9% increase and Passat with an 8% climb.
On the other hand, the three models that had fallen in sales include the Beetle (down by 39%), CC with a 6.9% drop, and the Touareg with a 1.2% decrease. VW also revealed that its diesel sales remain strong, with these vehicles accounting for 27% of its total sales for the month – marking the second-highest proportion in its history. In the next several months, Volkswagen will introduce a new set of models. It’s rumored that the New Midsize Sedan will be revealed this week.
