Although many of us considered just a rumor, it appears that Volkswagen showed its intentions to buy Alfa Romeo, but Fiat refused it. We have no intention at all of selling the brand to VW, said a Fiat spokesman. Apparently, the decision of Volkswagen to buy Alfa Romeo comes after the German manufacturer announced that it wants to become the world's No. 1 automaker and overtake Toyota. Regarding Fiat, the Italian manufacturer is already planning to transform Alfa Romeo into a full-line premium carmaker selling 500,000 units in 2014, up from 102,000 last year. Analysts are skeptical about this target and said that the only way Alfa could reach this sales goal is to be sold to Volskwagen.
