The Volkswagen XL1 will start to arrive in dealerships in limited numbers in 2013. Volkswagen confirmed this report at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. It’s likely that the XL1 will return more than 235 mpg. It is equipped with a two-cylinder, 800-cc diesel powerplant with 48 hp and 88 lb-ft of torque. Its engine is mated to a 30 hp electric motor and a seven-speed DSG transmission. It also confirmed that by next year, an electric Up variant will go on sale. It will be Volkswagen’s first production EV. It revealed further that a plug-in hybrid variant of the new Golf will arrive in 2014. On the other hand, Volkswagen has shelved the Bulli Microbus. There were earlier reports that VW has a crossover based on it being considered. A Volkswagen board member noted that there’s a lack of demand for the Bulli.
