Volvo V70 Plug-in Hybrid

Volvo will have a plug-in hybrid in series production. Well, this development certainly is expected since Volvo has already shown off a plug-in hybrid Volvo V70. What remains a mystery is which models will be getting the new powertrain. The car is able to go 31 miles on pure electric power alone. In Volvo's estimation, this should be sufficient for 75% of all European journeys. When combined with a small diesel engine, it gives a range of around 745 miles, with CO2 emissions of 50g/km and combined fuel economy of 148.6mpg. Stephen Odell, president and CEO of Volvo, said that the new Volvo plug-in will feature Volvo's high safety and comfort standards. Moreover, CO2 levels and fuel consumption will be as low as half that available on the market today. Odell added that Volvo is focusing on plug-in hybrids to meet the demands for low CO2 emissions and to provide sustainable road transportation. With this move, Volvo expects that the authorities will provide subsidies to boost and speed up the creation of a market for this car.
