Volvo Cars will be expanding its workforce in Gothenburg, Sweden, through March in order to cope with an anticipated increase in demand, according to spokesman Per-Ake Froberg. Volvo will hire 200 workers to about 3,400 as it plans to boost production in this plant to 52 cars per hour from 48. Froberg said that the company seeks to be ready for the higher demand it expects in 2011. Froberg added that Volvo hopes to end 2010 with sales of about 380,000 cars. CEO Stefan Jacoby aims to increase sales to 800,000 cars in 10 years. Last August, China’s Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. acquired Volvo from Ford Motor Co. [via autonews - sub. required]
