VW 1.4-litre wins the International Engine of the Year award

Volkswagen TSI EgineTo be the best in today‚ market a powerplant should not only come with enough potency but should also provide fuel economy. In this regard, it comes as no surprise that the 1.4-liter Twincharger powerplant of Volkswagen has been awarded the 2009 International Engine of the Year ahead of BMW‚ 3.0-liter direct-injected twin-turbo 6-cylinder unit and with just four points separating them. The award is given based on the outcome of the poll of 65 auto scribes from around the world. This year‚ jury is represented by 32 countries including China, Germany, Korea, the US and UK. Besides the mentioned award, the supercharged and turbocharged unit of VW also garnered the Green Engine of the Year trophy ahead of Honda‚ 1.3-liter IMA hybrid powertrain.
