Volkswagen has added new engines and gearboxes to the Beetle range. The entry-level 1.2-litre TSI engine with a manual gearbox has a starting price of £15,195, which is £1,405 lower than the previous model. A DSG transmission was available with the 1.2-litre TSI but it’s the first to be offered with a manual ’box. A 1.6-litre TDI variant, which is coupled to either a five-speed manual or seven-speed DSG, will serve as the entry-level diesel unit. The two new variants are available in either entry-level Beetle or Design trims. With the entry of the 104bhp 1.6-litre TDI, it means that there’s now a model in VED band B for the Beetle range. Its most efficient model presently has CO2 emissions level of 129g/km. On the combined cycle, Volkswagen claims 65.7mpg. Deliveries are scheduled to start in January 2013.
