According to the latest reports from Autocar, it appears that Volkswagen is on track with the development of the BlueSport Roadster. Set to make its debut in 2013, the new car is based on the BlueSport Concept unveiled back in 2009 at the Detroit Auto Show. The vehicle will use the new MMB platform (Modulare Mittel Baukasten). Apparently, the new platform will be used by three new models from the Vw Group: the BlueSport, the so-called baby-Boxster and the small Audi R4. According to our sources, the MMB platform (Modulare Mittel Baukasten) is scalable, which means that it can accept different track widths.
Regarding the engines, the new Vw BlueSport is expected to receive a 1.6-liter FSI engine delivering around 220 hp and fitted to a standard six-speed gearbox. As an option, the car will be available with the seven-speed dual-clutch DSG gearbox. In the concept form, the car was powered by a 2.0-liter TDI engine delivering 180 hp and mated to a 6-speed DSG dual clutch transmission which transfers the power to the rear wheels.
With the diesel engine installed, the car can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) is made in just 6.6 seconds while the top speed is limited to 226 km/h (147 mph). Regarding the petrol powered version, expect even better numbers. Sources confirm the fact that the production version of the BlueSport Concept will be seen at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.
