2010 Vw Amarok

If you're in the market for a new Volkswagen Amarok pickup truck, then there should be no time to waste since the carmaker would need to sell 100,000 units each year in order to make a profit on the Amarok in the US. Mike Levine at PickupTrucks had an opportunity to speak with Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO of Volkswagen of America. VW is believed to have a difficult task in front of it since the trucks didn't sell that well the past year. In particular, the only non full-sized truck that sold many units last year was the Toyota Tacoma (102,327 units). The next highest seller was the Great Grandaddy of the Compact Truck Segment while the Ford Ranger only sold 51,097 units. In general, the compact truck market is declining. One problem seen is that VW doesn't have many dealerships in the areas of the nation that are known to have a liking for trucks. Another issue is the so-called "chicken tax" that would add a 25% tariff to the Argentina-built Amarok. Jacoby disclosed however that there are more urgent matters that the German automaker has to work on.
