Vw of America outlines strategy for new U.S. models

Vw Midsize Sedan SketchStefan Jacoby, president and CEO of Volkswagen of America, plans to make the German company the largest automaker in the world. His plan to encroach on the global automotive market includes introducing new models aimed at the heart of the market, including a new American-made midsize sedan targeting the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Chevrolet Malibu and Ford Fusion. Volkswagen will refresh its entire lineup by 2011, starting with a revised New Beetle and Jetta that cater to American tastes. VW’s lineup will also soon include a new seven-seat CUV that will rival the Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander and Chevy Traverse. When asked about other models, Jacoby said that smaller models are under consideration. He also said that the company is working to improve the quality of all its cars. Jacoby emphasized however that in all these goals, it has ”no intention to make VW a boring brand.”
