Vw Passat CC transforms into a five-seater

Vw Passat CC

With the intention of being a sporty, luxurious take on its midsize Passat sedan, Volkswagen's CC has been fitted with a two-passenger split bench seat in back. European consumers now have the option of adding a third seating position; however, it's unlikely that this feature will show up in U.S.-spec models. For $140, car owners can choose to replace the storage console in back with a proper seat cushion. A headrest and seat belt has also been added for the center position. Despite the extra hardware, the rear seatback can still fold completely flat, granting owners extra cargo space. Product planners are considering this option but it is certain that it won´t appear in 2010 or 2011 models. It's likely that the VW will continue to split its midsize lineup, with the CC remaining a sporty alternative to the family-friendly five-seat "New Midsize Sedan." The vehicle, a successor to the aging Passat, will roll off Volkswagen's new assembly lines in Chattanooga, Tennessee, by the end of 2011.
