The Volkswagen Group received three first place awards from “Fleet News Awards 2011” for the Volkswagen Polo and Golf models, and the Skoda Superb -- which took the top spot in their respective categories. The awards were decided by a jury composed of Fleet News editors and were handed out in London for the 23rd time ever. Present during the awarding were trade association members and representatives from key accounts and automakers. The criteria for these vehicles include quality, running costs including residual value and CO2 emissions.
From nine categories, the Volkswagen Polo won in the "Best Small Car" category while the Volkswagen Golf was the winner in the "Best Lower Medium Car" category. The award for the "Best Upper Medium Car" category went to the Skoda brand’s Superb. These awards signify the capability of the Volkswagen Group and its brands to respond to the complex demands of the international fleet business. Martin Jahn, Head of Volkswagen Group Fleet International, said that this achievement is considered an incentive to continue to meet customers’ wishes with a “balanced and young product range and convincing service.” He added that VW considers these awards important since the UK is Europe’s largest fleet market, featuring fewer customers that have a large number of fleet cars. About 3% of the companies found in the UK account for 60% of total key account business.
Collecting the award for Volkswagen was Head of Fleet Services, Vincent Kinner. He said: "I’m delighted to claim these awards for two of our key fleet models. It’s a shame the new Passat saloon and Estate models, which are proving so popular with company car managers and drivers, wasn’t eligible in the Upper Medium Car category this year. But watch this space!"
