VW predicts sales of new midsize sedan to exceed 60,000 units on first year

For the first full year of sales, Volkswagen expects the American "New Midsize Sedan" (or NMS) to sell over 60,000 units, according to MotorTrend. The German carmaker is optimistic that the NMS will sell well since it is priced lower than the current Passat (which will be discontinued soon). Volkswagen's Passat is priced at $27,665 for the sedan and at $29,095 for the wagon version in the U.S. This means that if Volkswagen goes through with its plan to make this upcoming model more affordable, then it could be retailed for under $25,000.
In the U.S., the New Midsize Sedan is one of the first Volkswagen models to feature the TDI technology. Earlier this year, the German carmaker has confirmed that such a powerplant will probably be sold on the vehicle in both the US and Canada.
It’s likely to be the same as the one that has been fitted on the Jetta -- the 2.0-liter diesel that has an output of 140hp and 236 lb-ft of torque. Volkswagen has yet to confirm the specs on the NMS and what’s available to satisfy our curiosity are only these few sketches that display the shape of the car. [via MotorTrend]
