Starting Oct. 1, Klaus-Gerhard Wolpert will be Volkswagen AG‚ new chief product strategist. Wolpert is the latest Porsche AG executive to move to controlling shareholder VW Group. Wolpert had led the development of the Cayenne premium SUV, Porsche's top-selling car. Wolpert replaces Matthias Mueller, who is set to succeed Michael Macht as Porsche CEO. Macht will replace Jochem Heizmann as VW Group production boss. However, Heizmann will stay on the VW Group board as chief of the company's truck business. On August 1, Frank Tuch, a former Porsche executive, joined VW as group quality chief. In a statement made last Friday, VW Group CEO Martin Winterkorn said, "Porsche and Volkswagen are continuing to dovetail." VW is taking over the automaking operations of Porsche Automobil Holding SE. These companies aim to build on its partnership, which includes sharing vehicle platforms. For instance, the Cayenne has the same underpinnings as the VW Touareg and the Q7 from VW Group premium brand Audi. VW aims that by 2018, it will overtake Toyota Motor Corp. when it comes to deliveries and profitability.
