The Best Super Bowl Car Commercial of All Time, according to Edmunds.com, is the Volkswagen ad for the all-new Passat that featured a kid in Darth Vader costume who uses “The Force” on the car. Edmunds is the leading resource for car shopping and automotive information. In this 30-second spot that made its debut in Super Bowl XLV, a six-year-old boy had a fun time miraculously starting the vehicle with his Jedi mind. The truth was that his father gave him some remote help. This ad became very popular that it got eight million YouTube views in the days before the ad was seen on TV. Coming in at second place is the Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo "Dream" (1990). Even 23 years after the introduction of the Z32-series Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo, it continues to be a “mesmerizing shape and a highly capable performance machine,” according to Edmunds.com.
This commercial was directed by Ridley Scott. It was seen only once at the Super Bowl XXIV and it was not aired again. The No. 3 commercial is Audi A6 "Through the Decades" (2009). Audi makes use of its high product placement budget. Several of its cars were seen in The Transporter movies. In the ad, Jason Statham goes through car chases in the 1970s, '80s and '90s before receiving an A6 for the contemporary conflict.
Ranked at fourth place is the Hyundai Genesis Coupe "Epic Lap" (2009) where drifting champion and stunt driver Rhys Millen does a lap of Road Atlanta in the then-new Hyundai Genesis coupe. Fifth place went to Ford GT "Everything It's Supposed To Be" (2004). In this ad, director Jeff Zwart lets Rhys’ father Rod Millen drive a Ford GT. This car was dropped onto California's Thunderhill Raceway and it was recorded while getting through the course in every possible way.
