Woman wins 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid gas mileage court case

2006 Honda Civic Hybrid

A small claims court in Los Angeles awarded $9,867 to Heather Peters, a 2006 Civic Hybrid owner. She filed a suit against Honda Motor Co. for overstating the gas mileage of the Civic Hybrid. Peters said via an e-mail that he is “absolutely thrilled” about the news however she said that she’s still waiting for the actual judgment to arrive in the mail. She added, "It's a victory for Civic Hybrid owners everywhere!" Peters, who works as a lawyer, chose not to join a proposed class action settlement over claims the Civic Hybrid doesn’t offer the 50 miles per gallon Honda asserts to have. She decided to file her own lawsuit in small claims court, where plaintiffs and defendants represent themselves. Before a hearing on Jan. 25, Peters said that the class-action settlement provided as little as $100 in cash and a $500 coupon toward a new car. American Honda Motor Co. has yet to comment on this ruling.
