Workers put on hold plan to blow up factory

A plan by workers to blow up the New Fabris factory in Chatellerault, central France has been put on hold after its union agreed to enter talks with the French industry ministry. The firm had declared bankruptcy and offered to give what the workers consider a derisory pay-off package.
PSA and Renault, which are the main clients of the factory, agreed to buy New Fabris’ remaining shares on the condition that the money goes to the 366 redundant workers. However, this would leave the workers with €6600 each, far below the €60,000 that the unions are demanding for each worker. Union leaders will meet government officials on Thursday to try to resolve the dispute.
