Volkswagen unveiled today at the Wörthersee Tour 2011 the all-new Golf R Cabriolet Concept, its latest addition in the R lineup. Just like the Golf R hatchback, the cabriolet is powered by the same 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder engine delivering 270 hp and 350 Newton metres from a low 2,500 rpm. According to Vw, the Golf R Cabriolet can sprint form 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than six seconds and has a top speed electronically limited to 155 mph or 250 km/h, making it the fastest open-top Golf ever.
For those who don’t know, the Golf R hatchback can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds and has a top speed limited to 250 km/h (155 mph). Although Volkswagen didn’t give us any details regarding the fuel consumption, we do expect the same numbers delivered by the hatchback version, which means 33.2mpg and 199g/km CO2 emissions.
Furthermore, the Golf R Cabriolet was lowered by 25 mm via a sport chassis and features 17-inch brake system with internally ventilated discs at all wheels, as well as blue painted high-performance brake calipers with the R logo. The calipers are hidden behind the 19-inch “Talladega” alloy wheels. Inside, the concept car features shell seats in dark blue carbon leather, combined with high-end Nappa leather in “Pure Grey”. The backs of the shell seats are painted in luxurious black piano paint.
