Renault-Nissan inaugurates new plant in Tangier, Morocco

Renault has been in Morocco since more than 80 years ago. Now, it's at the heart of the Tangier Med Port area, between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, benefiting from an extensive network of competitive suppliers as well as a pool of highly qualified personnel who are experts in modern automotive production techniques. Production at the facility will start with two new entry models -- the new family automobile Lodgy and a small van which will be available in passenger automobile form. Aside from allowing higher production volumes, the new plant will allow the entry lineup to expand, along with the models manufactured at the current SOMACA (Casablanca, Morocco) and Pitesti (Romania) plants that are presently operating to maximum capacity.
This will ensure that the Renault Group is capable of meeting the growing demand of its customers for entry-level automobiles that are famous for their exceptional value for money. Along with the Chennai plant in India, the new facility in Tangier will be a key contributor to the worldwide growth of both groups. Although controlled by Renault, it will implement the Alliance Production Way (APW) that is a mixture of the best manufacturing methods used by Nissan and Renault.
An employee training program has been placed to make sure that quality and performance are of the highest possible standards. In order to offer training for factory employees as well as suppliers, Morocco and Renault jointly pioneered the IFMIA (Institut de Formation aux Métiers de l'Automobile), funded entirely by the Moroccan state. On the other hand, Renault's Global Training Center (GTC) in Flins, France, has offered training for 168 people involved with the project. These include training, management and technical personnel.
