The 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe will be launched this month in the United States and according to the manufacturer the S550 4Matic Coupe will start at $119,900. This model arrives with a 4.7-liter V8 biturbo engine that produces 449 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque.
If you want more, you’d better know that the 2015 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG 4Matic Coupe starts at $160,000. This model is powered by a 5.5-liter V8 biturbo engine that generates 577 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque.
The engine is bolted to the AMG Speedshift MCT 7-speed sport transmission, which sends the power via an all-wheel drive system. Mercedes-Benz is set to unveil the new X350d 4Matic X-Class at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. It was back in July 2017 when the brand first premiered its pickup which utilizes the chassis, as well as certain body panels, of the Nissan Navara. While Mercedes-Benz, through its AMG unit, is toying with its Project One hypercar, it has unveiled at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show the newest and cleaner addition to its S-Class model range – the 2018 Mercedes-Benz S560e next-generation plug-in hybrid.
Meant to replace the S500e plug-in hybrid of the pre-Facelift S-Class, the new Mercedes S560e boasts of having more power and being able to travel longer distances. These capabilities are centered on the S560e’s more dynamic hybrid drive system that employs a more powerful V6 engine and electric motor as well as a higher capacity lithium-ion battery.
The hybrid system that propels the new Mercedes S560e makes use of a 3.0-liter V6 engine that delivers 270 kW (367 hp) of max output and 500 Nm (369 lb.-ft) of peak torque. For other vehicles, this amount of power is already enough, but Mercedes has adjudged that this conventional mill wasn’t enough to make the S560e not just powerful, but also efficient. Earlier this week, the revamped 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class was revealed ahead of the 2017 Shanghai Auto Show. As expected, Mercedes Benz’s flagship model is now offered in several variants including the AMG specced sedan. Unique to this update is the suite of driver assistance technologies and active safety features under its latest Intelligent Drive system.
According to Mercedes-Benz, the new enhancements on the S-Class are the closest it could get to actual autonomous driving. Most mid-cycle updates are not technically considered as facelifts. Instead, the automaker performs a few tweaks here and there to bring a fresh new offer for their customers. The German automobile manufacturer powerhouse Mercedes-Benz is on the brink of fully launching the mid-cycle upgrade of its flagship vehicle around April. The mid-cycle facelift for the Mercedes-Benz's S-Class have been disclosed to the public eye via these leaked shots. The images that recently surfaced and others like it were published online by SaudiShift and revealed what appear to be alterations made on the updated S-Class.
Upfront where the changes are more noticeable, the more improved S-Class has a cleaner front bumper design with a chrome bar found across the width of the lower air intake area. Its grill has also been changed with a recent elliptical chrome slats, with the internals of the Multibeam Lead headlamps revised as well. Meanwhile, the rear has received some minor alterations.
There is a small revision made to the rear bumper and a new chrome bar connecting with the 2 exhaust tips. Internally, the state of the art sedan is fitted with larger screens for both infotainment and instrumentation purposes. The screens found on the updated sedan are devised to look like one continuous unit. How would a Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet look like once German tuner Carlsson does its work over this premium car? Well, the people at Carlsson got a Mercedes S 500 Convertible and gave it a number of modifications that it referred to as the Diospyros package.
One of the most glaring revisions made on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet is the exterior color wrapping its metal sheet. Diospyros is wrapped in a light mint green color that Carlsson has dubbed as "Carlsson Heritage Green." This modern mono-color paint, which was developed by Carlsson in collaboration with Standox color specialists, produces a golden shimmer when it is exposed to sunlight.
This Carlsson Heritage Green is accentuated by a piano lacquer finish in multiple parts like the car’s grille and bars. The last time that BMW produced the 8-Series was in 1999. This two-door coupe belonged to the grand tourer class and combined speed, style, safety, and comfort. Powered by a V8 or V12 engine, the BMW 8 Series represented a new class targeted towards a different market. It offered a better performance but fetched a higher price than the BMW 6 series. No thanks to falling sales, BMW had decided scrap off the 8 Series in 1999. While BMW resurrected the 6 Series in 2003 and is still producing it, it has yet to revive the 8 Series.
However, there have been reports that BMW is digging the graveyard to resurrect the 8 Series, which is its biggest two-door ever made. Even though sales of premium coupe models have not been as good as before, BMW is hell-bent on reviving the 8 Series and is using the 7 Series platform as its base. With Mercedes-Benz massively dominating the super-luxury segment -- EUR150,000 ($170,000) and over -- with its Maybach version of the S-Class, BMW cannot just sit idly and watch its rival hog all the sales. BMW development chief Klaus Froehlich disclosed that BMW will soon have credible offers at this price bracket.
While BMW surely wants to earn the lucrative margins that Mercedes makes from sales of the Maybach, its new luxury car should still have attributes like any of its vehicles. According to Froehlich, BMW wouldn't need to stretch the car by another meter or two just to post higher sales revenue.
He said that BMW wouldn’t copy what its rivals do with their offerings – making the car measure 4 or 5 wheelbases in length with varying thick chrome packages.
