Skyfall proves to be a very good marketing platform for carmakers

If you’re observant enough, you’ll notice that the cars seen in Skyfall include a Land Rover, Audi, Jaguar, Kia, Volkswagen, and a vintage Aston Martin. Daniel Craig starred in the latest James Bond movie, which generated $87.8 million in its opening weekend in the U.S. The movie provided plenty of exposure for these featured brands. Before the movie was shown, there was a buzz that the new Aston Martin Vanquish will be featured in the movie. Instead, we saw the Aston Martin DB5, a classic Bond series favourite. Forbes said that Aston Martins were in 11 of the 23 Bond films. The DB5 is powered by a 282-hp Straight-6 engine and can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 7.1 seconds.

This car was in production from 1953 to 1966 and had a price tag of slightly higher than $6,000 upon its debut. Craig told British TV show "Top Gear" that he just “loves” the DB5. He went on to say that the car “felt right” since the movie is about Bond’s return to his roots and facing “old demons.” The first scene in the film was of a car chase through a busy market.

It involved Land Rover Defender Double Cab pickup, which was driven by co-star Naomi Harris, chasing an Audi Q5 (a 3.0-liter V-6 TDI Quattro). Another car that was featured prominently in the film is the Jaguar XF that chauffeured Judi Dench around. It can be recalled that MSN Cars said in a report last year that the Range Rover Evoque will be used in the movie. None of the main actors were filmed driving it but there were several Evoques in the background. The police cars used were from Kia. Meanwhile, VW was represented by several Beetles tossed off a train.
