One thing that more car buyers look for is a panoramic sunroof. So naturally, automakers aim to give its customers what they want. Nevertheless, safety is a pertinent issue that has to be addressed. This is why Hyundai is making sure to answer all safety concerns regarding the glass sunroofs. Hyundai has developed a panoramic sunroof airbag, which they claim to be the first ever in the industry.
So how does this work? Well, the South Korean automaker installed the airbag inside the sunroof mechanism of the tempered glass roof. The airbag gets activated when the car’s on-board sensor detects the vehicle about to roll over when it crashes. In around 0.08 of a second, the airbag can be deployed from the front to the rear of the car, covering the entire roof surface. Now that is indeed a first.
If in any case the car rolls over, the sunroof airbag will prevent passengers from spilling out of the car. This reduces their risk of getting serious injuries.Read the entire article Hyundai presents first-ever panoramic sunroof airbag
Does your vehicle’s sunroof come with an airbag? This may be the first time you’ve ever heard that such a thing actually does exist. Since safety often tops the priority list of all car manufacturers, automotive parts suppliers are relentlessly seeking new innovations to offer to their clients.
Enter Hyundai Mobis, which brings to us what is now known as the very first airbag for your car’s panoramic sunroof. This may take a long while to be seen everywhere as the company will be focusing on premium SUVs at the moment. If eventually this becomes available worldwide, we believe these special airbags will further raise our standards for safety.
But why place it over your head? Well, its main concern is to prevent occupants from being ejected out of the vehicle’s panoramic sunroof in case of a rollover accident. At the time of an emergency, the sunroof airbag can deploy in as quick as 0.08 second which is pretty similar to what the side-curtain airbags on most vehicles accomplish. Hyundai Mobis’ patented technology will work whether the sunroof is closed or open to keep passengers safe no matter what. Imagine an airbag that goes down from the back and moves forward to cover the entire panoramic glass roof. That’s how it works.Read the entire article Hyundai Mobis develops first-ever sunroof airbags
The 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show is playing host to a number of debuts, especially SUVs. Hyundai won't let itself be left out as the South Korean carmaker unveiled its own SUV flagship at the LA event – the all-new 2020 Hyundai Palisade mid-size SUV. Set to be built at the carmaker’s manufacturing plant in Ulsan, South Korea, the 2020 Hyundai Palisade is scheduled to arrive dealerships across the United States in the summer of 2019.
Hyundai’s new Palisade could be the brand’s answer to the growing demand for larger SUVs. It does offer a seven-seat SUV in the guise of the Hyundai Santa Fe XL. However, the Hyundai Santa Fe XL is basically just a slightly larger version of the Santa Fe five-seat SUV. Some customers might find other similarly sized SUVs from other carmakers as more spacious.
To answer the call, Hyundai create the new Palisade, which it says offers enough room to accommodate eight occupants and their cargo. Furthermore, the Palisade promises to deliver a host of technologies and offer great levels of safety.Read the entire article 2018 LA Auto Show: Hyundai Palisade flagship SUV unveiled
Hyundai i30 N is the South Korean carmaker’s very first high-performance hatchback. As one of the N performance models, the i30 N boasts of a number of sporty elements that help highlight its potent nature. Of course, there are some i30 N customers who may think that these elements aren’t enough. To show its consideration for these customers, the carmaker has unveiled the new Hyundai i30 N ‘N Option’ at the 2018 Paris Motor Show.
Even with its sporty looks, a standard Hyundai i30 N might not satisfy some customers who wanted to further personalize their ride and make them look sportier. Good thing is that Hyundai is all bent on creating a number of customization features that would allow these customers to create their own version of the hot hatch. Essentially, the Hyundai i30 N ‘N Option’
Hyundai described the i30 N ‘N Option’ being shown at the Paris Motor Show as the ultimate performance show car. The show car provides a glimpse of the possible accessories that will be made available for the N models – including the i30 N, i30 N Fastback and Veloster N – in the future. The Hyundai Motor Group – a multinational conglomerate that includes South Korean carmakers Hyundai and Kia -- will have a new head of design. Luc Donckerwolke is the new Chief Design Officer of the entire Hyundai Motor Group, replacing erstwhile design head Peter Schreyer. Donckerwolke commenced his new role in the company on Nov. 1, 2018.
Prior to his promotion, Donckerwolke used to be the Executive Vice President of Hyundai Motor’s design center. In this role, Donckerwolke was practically working with Schreyer in influencing the design of Hyundai, Kia and Genesis vehicles. Now, his appointment means that he is taking over Schreyer’s work as chief of design operations at Hyundai Motor Group. He is now the primary overseer of the group’s global design team, which means that he will be the man behind the overall design direction of the Hyundai, Kia and Genesis brands from now on.
The appointment of Donckerwolke as the new chief design officer at the Hyundai Motor Group comes as Chung Euisun - company chairman and chief executive Chung Mong-koo – was promoted to a higher role in the company in September. The younger Chung is now the executive vice chairman of the Hyundai Motor Group, a position that allows him to oversee the entire conglomerate. He is also the heir apparent to the position currently held by his father, which means the younger Chung is now being groomed to become next chairman and CEO of the Hyundai Motor Group.Read the entire article Luc Donckerwolke is the new Chief Design Officer of Hyundai Motor Group
Hyundai has just unveiled a new offering that combines the performance of a sports car and the practicality of a five-door vehicle. Following a blazing race between professional Hyundai Motorsport drivers Thierry Neuville and Gabriele Tarquini, the South Korean carmaker took the wraps off the new Hyundai i30 Fastback N.
Essentially Hyundai’s third N model after the i30 N and the Veloster N, the new i30 Fastback N boasts of the same design cues as the other two models, as adapted for a different body style. Dubbed by Hyundai as the new i30 Fastback N as the first five-door hot coupe in the C-segment, the all-new i30 Fastback N borrows with a number of dynamic elements of the i30 N five-door hatchback, such as the N Grille as well as the N front bumper and a distinct rear bumper, both featuring a red character line below. The new i30 Fastback N also features a lowered body, a black side sill, a dual twin muffler exhaust as well as an arched rear spoiler integrated into the tailgate. The rear spoiler is highlighted by a glossy black accent.
Inside, the all-new Hyundai i30 Fastback N features an exclusive N steering wheel with red-colored N stitching that is also found on the gear shift and the seats. Hyundai Motor continues to make its i30 range more appealing by offering a new diesel engine that is compliant with Euro 6d Temp emission standards. For the 2019 model year, all of Hyundai’s refined i30 models are compliant with new emission standards while boasting of minor tweaks in design and latest connectivity elements.
The 2019 Hyundai i30 range – which include the i30 five-door, i30 Wagon, i30 Fastback and i30 N -- is now available with the newly developed Smartstream 1.6-liter four-cylinder diesel engine that is available in three power outputs: 96 PS (70 kW), 116 PS (85 kW) and 136 PS (100 kW).
Mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, the 96-PS version of the Smartstream 1.6-liter four-cylinder diesel engine consumes between 3.8 liters and 3.9 liters of diesel per 100 km and emits between 99 grams and 104 grams of carbon dioxide per km (combined, NEDC conversion).Read the entire article 2019 Hyundai i30 now available with Euro 6d Temp-compliant Smartstream diesel engine
Rumors of a potential merger between Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Hyundai Motor Group quickly spread like a wildfire. But the South Korean carmaker is also quick enough to try dousing the fire by denying the rumor.
The denial was made officially to Roadshow by Michael Stewart, senior group manager of Hyundai Corporate and Marketing Public Relations. Stewart said the merger rumor is totally groundless.
As early as 2015, FCA has been courting suitors for a possible merger or takeover. In 2017, there were rumors saying that Hyundai has shown interest to acquire FCA. A number of the Chinese companies had also expressed interest in buying out FCA. At that time, Hyundai maintained its silence over the takeover. Even FCA chief executive Sergio Marchionne denied the rumors. Interestingly, FCA’s share price spiked after the reports of interest.Read the entire article Hyundai denies rumors over potential merger with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles
It seems like the Hyundai Tucson will be expanding its range because the automaker is said to give the SUV a new Sport trim that will be equipped with a 2.4 liter four cylinder with 181 horsepower (135 kilowatts) and 175 pound feet (237 Newton metres) of torque that starts at 4,000 rpm, together with a six speed automatic. This powertrain will be available in either a front wheel- or an all wheel-drive layout.
Naturally, the 2.4 liter powerplant will carry out a little more output than the current 1.6 turbocharged four cylinder engine with only 175 horsepower (131 kilowatts) and 195 pound feet (264 Newton metres). This particular engine came with a seven speed dual clutch gearbox.
If you know about the Tucson lineup, the Sport trim is allocated between the SEL trim and the SEL Plus. The Sport trim comes with all of the SEL’s features - from the power driver’s seat, heated front seats, fog lights, and blind spot monitoring. The Sport will be given a set of 19 inch wheels, and will feature things like lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert, dual zone automatic climate control, LED approach lights, and a proximity key.Read the entire article 2018 Hyundai Tucson Sport trim gets a 181 HP four cylinder engine
At the 2018 New York Auto Show, Hyundai debuted the refreshed 2019 Tucson. Some of the new changes give the updated crossover a look that makes it more like its larger sibling, or the new 2019 Santa Fe. Inside, the new Tucson also gets a handful of new upgrades, like a thoroughly revised interior, as well as an expansive suite of driver assistance technology.
When checking out the front end of the car, one would notice a tweaked trapezoidal grille that features sharper edges compared to the current design. The middle bit now gets four slats instead of three. The model’s more angular face even extends until the headlights, which now have L-shaped LED running lights. Unlike the front, the Tucson’s rear end upgrades are not quite as obvious, but the updates include a smoother shape for the taillights. The Limited trim level also gets extra chrome trim as well.
As you enter the cabin, this is where you will find most of the changes. Hyundai’s designers overhauled the center stack and now, the infotainment system is placed just above the dashboard, instead of integrating it like the usual. This makes it easier to move the vents below the screen so it isn’t too crowded. There is going to be an updated instrument display cluster for the drivers to look at, as well as an electronic parking brake.Read the entire article 2019 Hyundai Tucson gets new design, more tech, 2.4-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder
Soon, Hyundai’s new vehicles – from sedans to sports utility vehicles -- will be donning a completely new look as the South Korean carmaker is introducing a completely new design language. This new design theme is now being previewed through a new design concept named Le Fil Rouge at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.
The new Hyundai Le Fil Rouge concept car represents the first embodiment of the new Sensuous Sportiness design language. Meant to deliver a glimpse of the brand’s future design direction, Le Fil Rouge – which means “common thread” in English –reflects Hyundai’s belief that its past, present and future designs are all linked.
In particular, the Le Fil Rouge concept car reinterprets – in a very modern and advanced manner – a Hyundai concept unveiled around 44 years ago at the Turin Motor Show, the 1974 Hyundai Coupe Concept. Thus, the Le Fil Rouge concept car links Hyundai’s past design (1974) to its present, as well as to its future styling. According to the Executive Vice President and head of Hyundai Design Center, Luc Donckerwolke, the carmaker builds on its long history of distinctive and sporty vehicles to open a new era for Hyundai design.Read the entire article Geneva 2018: Hyundai signals new Sensuous Sportiness design theme with Le Fil Rouge Concept
The 2019 Hyundai Kona Electric is ready to hit the market with its new look and its zero emissions package. For them to be able to cater to a wider market, the automaker decided that they would offer the Kona with two powertrains, with different outputs, ranges, and prices.
For instance, the base model features an electric motor that offers 133 horsepower (99 kilowatts) and 291 pound feet (395 Newton metres) of torque. This one comes equipped with a small 39.2 kWh battery pack that could offer a maximum range of 300 kilometers (186 miles) in the new Worldwide harmonized Light vehicles test procedure (WLTP). This procedure is supposedly more relevant than the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC).
Meanwhile, the top of the range Kona Electric was given as much as 201 horsepower (150 kilowatts) but with the same torque as the base model. This comes from the 64 kWh battery, which allows it to drive with a range of up to 470 kilometers (292 miles) as per WLTP.Read the entire article 2019 Hyundai Kona Electric can be driven up to 292 miles per charge
The 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe has recently been confirmed for the South Korean market but the automaker has also spoken about the fourth-generation model in the United States. It will be offered in a diesel engine in the powertrain range and it will start arriving in dealerships this upcoming summer.
The new generation will overhaul the model’s naming scheme. For instance, the smaller five-seater version will be called the Santa Fe instead of the Santa Fe Sport. While the larger, long wheelbase, seven-passenger version will be called the Santa Fe XL. This won’t be mistaken for the three-row, eight passenger SUV that’s being developed now as this will be getting a different name.
One problem that the automaker is facing now is the fact that when the buyer gets the new 2.2 liter turbodiesel four cylinder that produces 200 horsepower (149 kilowatts) and 320 pound feet (434 Newton metres), it is advertised to have a small third-row seat. As the brand specifically mentions that it is meant for occasional use, room might actually be a bit tight there.Read the entire article 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe will arrive at US dealerships this summer
Hyundai wanted to ensure that it doesn’t get left out in the hybridized vehicle game in the United States, and it just took the needed steps by unveiling the extensively redesigned 2018 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and Hyundai Sonata Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) at the 2018 Chicago Auto Show.
The redesigned elements on the new 2018 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and Sonata PHEV are meant not just to make them more appealing to customers in the United States, but also to complement and optimize the efficiency of their powertrains.
Both the new Sonata Hybrid and Sonata PHEV are fitted with the South Korean carmaker’s 2.0-liter Nu GDI four-cylinder engine that delivers 154 hp of output and 140 lb- ft. of torque, as coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission, as well as an electric motor. However, these Sonata models differ in terms of drivetrain implementation and battery capacity.Read the entire article Hyundai unveils 2018 Sonata Hybrid and PHEV at Chicago Auto Show
Hyundai has been sharing a number of teasers and spy shots of the fourth generation Hyundai Santa Fe. But on February 6th, it finally revealed press images of the said model. It now looks like a brand new car from the ground up, and is a bit of a departure from its predecessor. It’s mainly because the SUV now has a bolder exterior, as well as an interesting front fascia that features a set of slim upper lights like that of the Kona and the more eccentric looking Nexo hydrogen fuel-cell crossover.
The 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe now has a new “cascading grille” up front, which we first saw on the i30. The new grille really will call anyone’s attention, and is even surrounded by a secondary set of squarer lights that give the SUV its unique look, therefore making it stand out from its rivals in its segment.
Right now, the only images we have of the Santa Fe only show its exterior, but we could already see how prominent it looks - with the upper character line that runs from the front to the rear, and the more angular wheel arches that give the side profile a more rugged appearance. And for the car’s rear, we only still have the official design sketch that we saw from last month.Read the entire article Here are the official images of the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe
2019 Hyundai Santa Fe is scheduled to make its debut in late March 2018, and by now, we should already be getting teasers of the said model, and we are. In fact, they have already revealed spy shots of the fourth generation model, which shows us none other than the side profile of the revamped SUV (at least on the first photo they shared).
It seems to have a more prominent upper character line now extending from the slender Kona-like headlights to the sweptback taillights. In the first photo, we cannot really see the new grille, but it looks like the more corporate cascading grille in a larger size.
Weeks after the initial spy shots have been published, Hyundai now gives us a better idea of the Santa Fe’s design by sharing a sketch of it. This time, we see it up front. And the first thing we would say is that it is definitely sportier in character compared to its predecessor - from the LED headlights that have been placed lower, to the wider central airdam as well and bumper cladding and skid plates. The wheel arches are also slightly larger now, while boasting a new set of alloy wheels. The windows will have chrome borders, and the rearview mirrors have a sportier design.Read the entire article 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe teased ahead of New York Auto Show
Genesis and Hyundai are finally working together to begin the establishment of a network of Genesis-exclusive dealerships in the United States.
It was just last Friday when a statement confirmed that existing Hyundai dealers in the United States were offered the opportunity to establish separate Genesis franchises. In other words, dealerships that already sell Genesis vehicles today will finally be able to apply for a Genesis franchise if they wish to do so. The automaker actually hopes to establish a network of around 100 retailers by the end of this year.
In the United States, there are around 350 Hyundai dealerships that carry Genesis models. And when the franchises begin to pop up, then this will help cement the idea of Genesis being a standalone brand, more than a sub brand of Hyundai. This also permits Genesis specific franchises only to perform warranty work. Initially, they will have a selection process for this, choosing from a limited number of dealers who are party to the Genesis Participation Agreemen. The next three years will be busy for the automaker, as they will be building dealerships during this period.Read the entire article Genesis-exclusive dealerships will soon be set up in the US
Hyundai revealed to the press that it doesn’t plan on breaking any kind of top speed records with its newest N performance line. That is because the brand mainly focuses on the comfort and pleasure of driving its two new hatchbacks. When it comes to fun, the VW Golf GTI may be the first thing that comes to mind but the Korean automaker boldly claims that they might have beaten the said hatchback.
Albert Biermann, former head of BMW’s M division and the current head of Hyundai’s M division, shared to Australian publication Car Advice some details regarding the brand’s first high performance hatchback, the i30 N. He mentioned that the goal of this car is to make sure it is fun to drive daily, despite it being track-focused.
The automaker’s plan for the i30 N was to have it be a closer fit for the track than a Golf GTI could ever be. He also said that many GTIs can be taken to the track, but a standard GTI isn’t the same. Furthermore, regular GTIs are not as fun to drive, at the same time, they don’t have as strong a character.Read the entire article High-powered Hyundai i30N hatchback keeps the VW Golf GTI on its toes
Hyundai believes that the Veloster is doing a good job, and so it is taking the sports coupe and its Turbo version for another ride as new, second generation models for the 2019 model year. In fact, the all-new 2019 Hyundai Veloster and Veloster Turbo have just been unwrapped at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show.
While Hyundai is saying that the second generation of the Veloster has been comprehensively redesigned, the exterior of the newest iteration seemed similar to its predecessor. However, there is truth to this claim, as much of the redesign was derived from the sports coupe’s enhanced proportions and volume. Compared to its predecessor, the new Veloster is longer by around 0.8 inches and wider by 0.4 inches.
While the 2019 Veloster is as tall as the previous model, its rear headroom has grown by 0.6 inches. Retaining an asymmetrical two-plus-one configuration, the new Veloster features a more muscular stance with more voluminous fenders and wheel arches. Hyundai moved both the cowl point and A-pillar rearward to link the hood line and belt line. Its coupe-like presence is made possible by its lowered roofline and coupe-inspired fender line. On the rear, the Veloster comes with a more assertive integrated diffuser.Read the entire article Hyundai reveals second-generation Veloster and Veloster Turbo at 2018 Detroit Auto Show
Hyundai’s new N high-performance brand is announcing its entry into the United States with the unveiling of the 2019 Veloster N, its first N model for the US market, at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan.
Developed at Hyundai’s global R&D center in Namyang, South Korea, and refined at its Nurburgring-based testing site in Germany, the new Veloster N boasts of a number of design details that differentiate it from the Hyudai Veloster line. As a high-performance iteration of the Veloster, it is served by a more powerful engine matched by an electronically-controlled suspension. According to the South Korean carmaker, the Veloster N was developed to deliver thrilling cornering ability, everyday sports car drivability as well as race track capability.
Hyundai worked hard to differentiate the Veloster N from the Veloster Turbo and R-Spec models, and achieved this through an array of exterior, interior and mechanical elements. For instance, the Veloster N sports an exclusive N-design front fascia and grille, as well as front air ducts for better brake cooling. On the rear, the Veloster N dons a larger N-design rear spoiler. It also features a new rear fascia design with integrated diffuser as well as a high-flow dual exhaust.Read the entire article Hyundai reveals 2019 Veloster N high-performance model at 2018 Detroit Auto Show
