Aston Martin and Bang & Olufsen announce a new system for the DB9

Beginning at the latter part of 2007, Aston Martin and Bang & Olufsen have been collaborating to create some of the most outstanding and technologically advanced car audio systems the world has ever experienced.

At present, the two firms have combined forces once more to develop a new system for the DB9 of Aston Martin. The new system, which is dubbed the BeoSound DB9, brings the art of high-performance audio to a whole new level.

The new system focuses on aesthetics as much as it does on performance, elements around which Aston martin and Bang & Olufsen have built a strong reputation through constant innovation.

Continental Ac2ated Sound system uses absolutely zero speakers but offers a 3D experience

We often think that more speakers mean better sound. A lot of luxury vehicles are even equipped with 15 or more speakers. But as technology improves, manufacturers are introducing great quality audio with zero speakers. Yup, you won’t see any of them, but the music will sound very impressive. Continental just announced that they have a system called Ac2ated Sound, that will turn the car’s interior surroundings into a speaker. Now, that is proper surround sound.

Johann Hiebl, Continental’s head of business unit infotainment and connectivity, said that car manufacturers have been looking into surround sound systems that weigh less for the overall car to be lighter in weight, while providing more space for passengers and new technologies. Furthermore, he said they can use compact actuators and use surfaces to generate a natural, 3D sound - using the car itself and its walls as an instrument.

Certain parts of the car, from the A-pillars to the door panels are naturally suited for varying frequencies. For instance, the A-pillars can handle higher frequencies, which can be the audio system’s tweeters. On the other hand, mid-range frequencies can be perfectly handled by door panels, and the roof an rear shelf can act like subwoofers. Normally, a car would have speakers in some of these areas, but according to Continental, the actuators that will replace the actual coil and magnet can deliver vibrations in these areas and as a reaction, the car itself can produce the sound. Sounds technical, huh? The company even provided an illustration of a violin comparing it to a car’s door panel to further explain how this works.

Meet Russia’s Cardi 442 Concept - a reworked Aston Martin DB9

The British car manufacturer first unveiled their grand tourer, the Aston Martin DB9, during the 2003 Frankfurt Auto Show. The vehicle was actually made available both as a coupe and as Aston Martin DB9 Volante (which was a convertible). DB9 was the successor of the Aston Martin DB7 and was the very first model that was built in the British manufacturer’s Gaydon facility.

Aston Martin DB9 was designed by Henrik Fisker and is mainly made of aluminium except for the front bumpers and bonnet (which were composite). It was based on the DB7 with a more contemporary approach to the classic DB design elements and characteristics. The DB9 has a traditional Aston Martin grille and side strakes for simple and refined lines. The front portion of the car has no visible bumpers and does not have a separate nose cone. It is powered by a 6.0L V12 engine that can produce a maximum power of 444 horsepower. It has a top speed of 186 mph and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in a matter of 4.7 seconds.

Aston Martin’s DB9 has been around for more than 12 years and has gone through a lot of model year revisions to be able to cater to consumer needs. Now, the time has come for the DB9 to retire. But it does not have to end up in an old rusty junk yard. Cliché as it may sound, great things start from small beginnings, and so Russian coachbuilder Cardi is at the works of creating something great from the DB9.

Aston Martin unveils highly potent DB9 GT

The Aston Martin DB9 Grand Tourer has been redesigned and we were anxious to see the results. We were not disappointed. The most impressive ‘DB’ to date, this Aston Martin model encapsulates muscle, beauty and design in one magnificent sports car.

With a powerful 6.0-litre V12 engine, the DB9 GT commanded centre stage as it was unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2015. It is only fitting for a car of this power and prowess to be presented at this acclaimed festival. Since the 1950s, the DB4, DB5, DB6, DB7 have been renowned as elegant performance sports cars.

The DB9 is no exception; in fact, Aston Martin may have outdone itself. The vehicle is as beautiful as it is commanding. A machine of muscle, it has been designed with performance and regal bearing in mind. Performance is tracked from the uprated 6.0-litre V12 petrol engine, which is capable of producing an impressive 547 PS at 6750 rpm, and 620 Nm of torque at 5500 rpm.

Design sketches of Kahn Design’s Vengeance have finally come out. This retro-styled two-seat coupé is derived from the existing Aston Martin DB9. Limited production for this wide-bodied sports car will start later this year in Coventry. Powertrain details haven’t been released yet but it’s likely to still have the current DB9’s 5.9-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine, which has an output of 510bhp that can cause the DB9 to accelerate to 62mph in just 4.6 seconds.

The Vengeance’s styling evokes “the silhouette of a sabretooth on the prowl,” according to Kahn. The Vengeance is also said to take inspiration from Aston Martin designs of the 1980s and 1990s. From these design sketches, we see that the Vengeance features a wide rear-end stance and its front grille has been reimagined.

At the front, the model sits on a set of 20-inch alloys while at the rear, it has 21-inch alloys. Founder Afzal Kahn said in a statement that by launching the Vengeance, his childhood dream of designing and producing his own car is realized. He also said that after working in the industry, he wants to “leave a legacy” that he can be proud of.

Cadillac will offer its new flagship sedan – the CT6 rear-wheel-drive sedan – with the Bose Panaray system. Cadillac designed this new sound system exclusively for its new model, marking the debut of the latest line of Bose Automotive’s Advanced Technology Series sound systems. This system utilizes the technologies and design elements that are seen in Bose’s home entertainment and professional audio products.

The CT6 cabin will have 34 speakers, with nearly all of them having diameters of less than four inches. Last month in Detroit, General Motors CEO Mary Barra pointed out that this Bose system is a product of the joint development of innovations by the company and its supplier. Barra said that Cadillac has worked with Bose so that the technology can be integrated into the floor.

This system doesn’t need several stand-alone high-fi elements so it’s able to provide “great acoustics and greater efficiency.” In addition, the Bose system features articulated arrays, which are several small speakers positioned in alternating directions. Listeners will appreciate that its setup offers sound at a wider angle, resulting to a sound stage that’s more consistent and broader.

We do know that Aston Martin is preparing some new models as it already announced that it will use engines provided by Mercedes-AMG. Today, we also found out that the British carmaker trademarked several monikers such as DB10, DB11, DB12, DB13 and DB14. We expect one of these to appear on the Aston Martin DB9 successor, which will arrive in 2016.

Company’s design director Marek Reichman already confirmed the fact that their next vehicle will indeed be a DB, but didn’t give any details regarding what number will follow.

Some rumors suggest that the vehicle will get the DB10 moniker but some company executives want the new car to keep its DB9 name. Moreover, we know that the new car will get the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that will be used by the 2015 Mercedes-AMG GT.

Aston Martin has unveiled the 2015 Aston Martin DB9 Carbon Edition at the New York Auto Show. The Ferrari Bianco white Project Kahn DB9 Aston Martin Volante is a mix of style, elegance, majesty, tradition, comfort and practicality. And because we are talking about Project Kahn, don’t expect to see something flashy as the British tuner only added a Kahn Sports exhaust, Sports lowered suspension, red calipers and privacy glass.
