Following the global debut of the new Audi R8 LMS GT3 at the 2018 Paris Motor Show, the German premium carmaker is introducing the new Audi R8. The refreshed version of the Audi R8 boasts of a sharper look and better performance made possible by more powerful V10 engines and a modified suspension system.
As part of the upgrade of the new Audi R8, the premium carmaker is implementing a change in designation. From now on, the Audi R8 Coupé V10 and R8 Spyder V10 will be known as the Audi R8 Coupé V10 quattro and R8 Spyder V10 quattro. On the other hand, the Audi R8 Coupé and R8 Spyder V10 plus will be designated as Audi R8 Coupé performance Quattro and R8 Spyder V10 performance quattro. Audi plans to commence sales of the new R8 in the first quarter of 2019 in Germany and other markets in Europe.
Under the hood of the Audi R8 V10 quattro is a V10 naturally aspirated engine that has powered up by 22 kW (30 hp) and 10 Nm (7.4 lb.-ft.) to 419 kW (570 hp) of max output and 550 Nm (405.7 lb.-ft.) of peak torque. This allows the Audi R8 Coupe V10 quattro to sprint from zero to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 3.4 seconds and the R8 Coupe V10 quattro in 3.5 seconds. A decade ago, BMW invented the luxury coupe-SUV segment with the X6. And it is only this year that Audi decided to join them with the first ever Q8 SUV. This model is new to the Q family of high riding vehicles, giving customers both versatility of an SUV, and elegance of a five door coupe.
The size of the Q8 is pretty much like the Q7’s dimensions. But because of its sloping roofline design, it looks like it sits closer to the ground. Its wheelbase measures almost three meters (118 inches), a huge cabin, for which Audi says is superior compared to their competitors within its segment, namely the BMW X6 and Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe.
Moving on to the Q8’s capacity, it has a larger boot that can hold up to 605 liters (21.3 cubic feet) of your bags when the rear seats are in place, and can be expanded to 1,755 liters (61.9 cubic feet) when folded. Audi R8 is definitely a much loved car by the market, and we really are dreading the day it will retire. Audi opened the order books for the Audi R8 V10 RWS ((Rear Wheel Series) in fall 2017 in Europe, with the model already arriving in dealership earlier this year. At the time it was unveiled, it was still unsure whether Audi is bring the new R8 V10 RWS to the United States. Now, the premium carmaker is indeed bringing the R8 V10 RWS, at a hefty starting price of $139,950 each, Motor Trend says citing its own source.
At this pricing, the Audi R8 V10 RWS – the carmaker’s first-ever production and street-legal rear-wheel-drive R8 model – is around $26,000 cheaper than the Quattro model. However, those who are interested in acquiring this edition of the R8 should remain always alert as to when it would arrive in the US, because only 320 examples are allocated for this market. While Audi didn’t give an official date for the arrival of the R8 V10 RWS in the US, it is expected that this would occur in the last quarter of the year.
The German carmaker only needed to get rid of the Quattro all-wheel-drive system to pave way to the RWD layout, thereby giving birth to the R8 V10 RWS. However, its powerful naturally aspirated V10 remains the same. Scott Keogh, President of Audi of America, said in his interview with Roadshow that the United States market will again be able to get their hands on a RS5 Sportback that will soon join the RS5 Coupe. It took a while for the automaker to mention the existence of a range-topping variant of the stylish four door. Information on its availability in different regions has also not been divulged yet.
But that is not all. In fact, Keogh mentioned that they have another surprise that they are working on, though he stopped himself from saying further and did not reveal what it was. Instead, he teased us by saying that there is a cool European model that they have not brought in to the United States just yet, and that he considers it to be his number one car, and they perhaps they will get it. But to date, he did not confirm any of these reports.
If you analyze what Keogh said even further, there are a number of possibilities for this. Keogh could be referring to an RS4 Avant, depending on the timeframe he has in mind. That is because the said model is already ready right now and that it only needs an executive to sign off so it could already be added to the US lineup. Just a month ago, Audi unveiled one of its latest studies -- the new Audi Aicon Concept car -- at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show to show how the carmaker visualizes the future of autonomous vehicles. That concept looked so promising, especially when we take into consideration that it was supposed to be a fully self-driving luxury vehicle in which a ferried passenger just has to sit back, relax and wait for his or her arrival at a preset destination.
Now, here comes the Audi Atom, a concept that also visualizes the future. It looks so promising that it appears like it was a preview for the Audi R8 of the future. There is one big exception, though. This Atom isn’t from Audi. In fact, Audi didn’t even design this Atom. Actually, this Audi Concept Atom is a rendering created by a Russian graphic artist named Konstantin Pankratov who shared this work on online professional sharing site Behance.
Sadly though, Pankratov didn’t provide any detail or description of the Audi Concept Atom. However, we could make assumptions just by looking at this rendered creation. The appearance of this Audi Atom is definitely assertive. However, it isn’t aggressive enough to be regarded as a supercar or a hypercar. Usually, design studies or concept are heavily aggressive and boasts of extra-dramatic designs. If this Audi Atom previews a future Audi hypercar, it should have very forceful appearance. Were you ever a fan of the Audi RS4 Avant or the RS5 Coupe? If you were, we have something even flashier for you - that is if you are the kind of person who likes to stand out of the crowd. It is the all new Carbon Edition for both high-performance models. Instantly, you would think of a massive weight loss, but that is not all because the vehicles will also come with an RS sport exhaust and matrix LED headlights.
Given that name, we would expect the models to have a body that has been given carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) components. True enough, certain parts including the front splitter, side sills, rear diffuser insert and mirror caps have all been swapped with carbon fiber. There is also some noticeable carbon fiber trim on the interior and the engine cover. The RS5’s roof has been replaced by this, saving it a total of 6 pounds 10 ounces (3 kilograms).
Other than the carbon fiber bits, the Carbon Edition also includes a few other accents to add some style to the car. The radiator grille on the front fascia now has a matte aluminum finish, and matte titanium materials can be found on the Quattro logo as well as the window surrounds. Finally, Audi Sport takes the cover off the R8 V10 RWS at the dawn of 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. The long awaited rear-wheel drive R8 is here, and as the newest addition to the supercar's range, the automaker decided to only produce 999 units of the Coupe and the Spyder trims.
For the R8 V10 RWS, Audi had to get rid of the Quattro system to give way to the RWD layout, though the naturally aspirated V10 remains intact. Now, without the Quattro, the R8 loses as much as 50 kilograms (110 pounds) for the fixed roof model, while the droptop only loses 40 kilos (88 pounds). The 5.2 FSI V10 engine is mounted on the middle, where it produces the same 540 horsepower (397 kilowatts) and 540 Newton-metres (398 pound-feet) of torque as the all-wheel drive version of the R8. This is why the RWD version lacks the rear wing of the more powerful Plus model. The R8 is better known for an extreme track day more than just cruising around Beverly Hills.
In terms of performance, the Coupe version can accelerate from a standstill to 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in only 3.7 seconds - that makes it two tenths of a second faster than the R8 with the Quattro system. The Spyder, on the other hand, can finish the task in 3.8 seconds, considering that it is slightly heavier. It is still 0.2 seconds faster than its AWD sibling. Earlier this year, Audi revealed the 2018 Audi RS5 Coupe at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, and not long after it has been unveiled, tuners are getting their hands on it, and giving it their own style and performance upgrade. German tuner ABT Sportline is one of the first tuners that have already tuned the two-door Audi Sport performance coupe.
When delivered straight from the factory, the RS5 Coupe is equipped with a 2.9 liter V6 with as much as 450 horsepower and 443 pound-feet (600 Newton-metres) of torque. That is already quite impressive, but ABT decided to push its output even further to an additional 60 HP and 59 lb-ft (80 Nm) of torque from the TFSI engine. That gives the RS5 a total of 510 horsepower (375 kilowatts) and 502 pound-feet (680 Nm) or torque.
For those who have already purchased an RS5 Coupe, or are about to get one, you might want to know that the German tuner will ask for €4,760 (or $5,600) for the package they are offering. In 1896, Johann Abt started a blacksmith shop in Kempten, Germany. Currently, the company is focusing on projects involving a variety of cars from the Volkswagen Group, from the Skoda Citigo to the Audi R8 supercar. One of ABT Sportline’s latest project is the TT RS, making it resemble its bigger brother more.
Dubbed TT RS-R, ABT Sportsline is only upgrading 50 units each of the coupe and the roadster. Both models will be equipped with a five-cylinder, turbocharged 2.5-liter engine that can produce an extra 100 horsepower more than the standard model - giving out a total of 500 horsepower (368 kilowatts) and 570 Newton-metres (420 lb-ft) of torque. After teasing the public for months with photos and videos of its new flagship model, Audi has finally unveiled the fourth generation of the brand’s flagship model -- the 2018 Audi A8 (D5). As introduced, the A8 is a luxury sedan. Nonetheless, it would not hurt to imagine other versions of the A8 sedan, namely as A8 Coupe, A8 Avant, S8 and RS8.
Definitely, it is a struggle to imagine how the new generation of the Audi A8 Sedan would look like when interpreted in other forms. However, thanks to a certain visual designer who goes by the name of X-Tomi Design, fans and enthusiasts don’t need to use their imagination so hard. After all, X-Tomi has made it much easier to visualize how good-looking the A8 would be if created as other vehicle types by rendering the sedan as a coupe, a full-size wagon (Avant) or as high-performance sporty models.
In its coupe form, the Audi A8 – using X-Tomi’s render -- would definitely look spectacular. Interestingly, the A8 Coupe by X-Tomi looks familiar; its styling was similar to the Audi Prologue concept that was unveiled at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show. This was all expected, as after all, the new design language that made its debut on the new Audi A8 sedan was actually born out of the Audi Prologue concept, a design study in the form of a coupe. While a coupe version of the A8 really looks impressive, there have been indications that the Audi Prologue Concept is a preview of the upcoming A9 flagship. After a flashy debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show last March, the Audi's second generation R5S Coupe will be available in the United Kingdom this month.
The price tag of the new 2018 AUdi R5S Coupe is £4,100 more expensive than its old model which is valued at around £58,725. It is also considered £4,500 steeper than the BMW M4, but it costs £650 less than the Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupe. Regarding the Dynamic Package, the price has not been finalized just yet.
The final costs of fitting a carbon roof and RS sport suspension with Dynamic Ride control has not also been decided, but may cost around £3,000 and £2,000 respectively. Audi's light and faster new release is equipped with a turbocharged 2.9 L V6 petrol engine that produces up to 444 bhp, akin to the 4.2L V8 of the previous unit. The new R5S coupe will somehow bear a brand new badge and will be sold under the Audi Sport trademark. To the delight of many premium customers wanting to squeeze more performance from their Audi models, the German luxury carmaker recently took the wraps off the new Audi RS 5 Coupe at the 2017 International Geneva Motor Show. Sitting beside the new coupe is the premium brand’s latest Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters challenger – the new Audi RS 5 DTM – and it is ready to rumble for the 2017 season.
Created by Audi Sport, the Audi RS 5 DTM is derived from the Audi RS 5 Coupé that was unveiled simultaneously at the Geneva Motor Show. Audi Motorsport chief Dieter Gass remarked that this marks the first time that a new DTM car was created in parallel with the production model, thereby highlighting the link between production and motorsport at Audi. He added that in developing the new RS 5 DTM, Audi used the previous-generation model as benchmark considering that it was the most successful DTM car in the past two seasons.
Aside from donning the new RS design language, the third-generation Audi RS 5 DTM has received various tweaks to make it compliant with DTM regulations. It’s a GT among the RS models, says Stephen Winkelmann, CEO of Audi Sport. This all-new 2018 Audi RS5 Coupe graces the market with its 450 horsepower (336 kilowatts) 2.9 liter biturbo engine and a 442 lb-ft (600 Nm) torque, which is 125.4 lb-ft (170 Nm) higher than before. This engine has powered the Porsche Panamera 4S.
Launching together with the RS5 DTM at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, the RS5 Coupe carries an overall weight reduction of up to 60 kilograms which gives it the capability to accelerate from zero to 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in a span of 3.9 seconds, making it comparable to the Alfa Romeo Giulia QV. With the optional dynamic package, the new motor has a top speed of 174 mph (280 kph).
According to Winkelmann, the new Audi RS5 Coupe is the “gran turismo” among the RS models from the Audi Sport. As part of the Volkswagen Group, SEAT and Audi have access to each other’s products. This means that if SEAT wanted to, it could take on some models of the German premium carmaker and re-badge them as its own offerings. This has happened before, when the Spanish carmaker took on Audi’s A4, made some modifications and rebadged it as the SEAT Exeo.
There is a possibility that SEAT could do it again, but with another vehicle that’s part of Audi’s lineup. SEAT could build on the Audi A5, whose new generation has just been unveiled. That said, SEAT would be able to offer the coupe and convertible versions of the Audi A5 as its own models.
But before we wonder how the new Audi A5 coupe and cabriolet would look like when transformed into SEAT models, we could take a good look at the renderings made by visual artist X-Tomi. These renderings virtually spell out Audi A5 – both the coupe and convertible versions – but with certain visual modifications that identify them as vehicles from SEAT. These modifications are mostly found on the front end of the SEAT Salsa models – the moniker given by X-Tomi. We really couldn’t deny that quite a number of Audi customers and would-be-buyers are intently waiting for higher performance RS versions of the Audi A4 and A5. Of course, these customers are also intently waiting for juicier details about the next RS models from Audi Sport.
Now, we just received some juicy information regarding the Audi RS4 Avant, RS5 Coupe, and RS5 Sportback. The information came in the form of an image as well as a slideshow from a presentation conducted by an Audi dealer in Norway. These aren’t complete information, but will be enough to quench our craving while we wait for the official details.
Thanks to the leak from the presentation this particular dealer, we now know the power ratings for the new Audi RS4 Avant and the RS5 Coupe, as well as the RS5 Sportback. For those pleading that Audi’s TT two-door coupe and roadster powered by the 2.0-liter TDI engine would get the known quattro all-drive drive technology, it seems that the German premium carmaker has heard your prayers. Yes, an Audi TT 2.0 TDI quattro is now available.
However, there is a twist to this. Audi’s all-wheel drive technology could only be fitted into a 2.0 TDI engine-powered 2017 TT coupe or roadster if the S tronic six-speed dual-clutch transmission is availed. The resulting variant would be the 2017 Audi TT 2.0 TDI quattro S tronic, which boasts of all-wheel drive agility and excellent diesel economy. Of course, the 2017 Audi TT Coupe 2.0 TDI with six-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive (FWD) remains available to order.

Audi of America disclosed that at the upcoming 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show, the U.S. production laser light will be making its first appearance on the 2017 Audi R8 V10 plus exclusive edition. While the exclusive edition already comes with headlights making full use of LED, each headlight will now be supported with a laser high beam module.
This laser light is just the latest innovation to come out from the same brand that started the practice of utilizing LED technology for the daytime running lights. The use of LED technology was first presented in 2004 with the Audi A8 L W12 and later in 2008 with the R8 having headlights made entirely of LED.
For the 2017 R8 exclusive edition, each laser module placed in each of the headlight will operate a total of four high-intensity laser diodes. What each module does is to bundle the diodes and allow a 450-nanometer wavelength blue laser beam to be produced. This blue laser beam then passes to a phosphor converter that turns it into a pure white and bright light. Audi is celebrating the emphatic win of the Audi R8 LMS in the 2015 edition of the 24 Hours Nurburgring by introducing a special edition car – the Audi R8 "selection 24h." This special edition – which also pays tribute to 323 convincing wins of the Audi R8 LMS in national and international races since 2009 – will be unveiled at the Audi AG exhibit at the 24 Hours Nurburgring. Only 24 examples will be produced.
Moreover, the Audi R8 "selection 24h" special edition pays homage to the brand’s achievements in endurance racing, like its 13 overall wins in the 15 years it has participated in the Le Mans 24 Hours. Notably, Audi’s first five wins in Le Mans were courtesy of the R8 sports prototype, which eventually lent its name to the production sports model. Audi finally fielded its GT3 racing car Audi R8 LMS to races in 2009.
Since then, the Audi R8 LMS has grabbed 300 wins globally, including overall victories in 24-hour endurance competitions on the Nurburgring, at Spa-Francorchamps and Zolder in Belgium, and in Dubai.
