Ingolstadt’s design honcho Marc Lichte recently had a talk with L’argus, a French online publication concerning Audi’s new premium models. Surprisingly, this brief conversation leads up to reveal not just a few details but also the official sketches of their new lineup. What you’re seeing right now are the designs of the A6 Sedan, A7 Sportback and the all-new Audi A8. Well, there’s no better way to compare each new model than having them side by side, is there?
While flipping through these drawings ourselves, we thought they all seem to look the same. Except maybe for the new A7--- which bears the sportiest design of the three new sedans. But as we gazed more closely at every detail, we determined how each one is very different from the other. That’s when we noticed how Audi’s new single-frame grille comes with different characteristics.
Since the A6 sedan has relatively smaller configuration, its bumper grille also has a design of its own. Audi has a dynamic start this year thanks to strong demand on models such as the A3, Q5 and A6, A7 and R8. In order to maintain the same path, the German manufacturer will boost output of its best-sellers and as a result it added 33 shifts at its German plants in January and February. In February alone, the German company added ten special shifts in Ingolstadt and three in Neckarsulm.
Meanwhile eight additional shifts are planned in Ingolstadt and two more in Neckarsulm this month. Board of Management Member for Production Dr. Frank Dreves: “Our Audi models are very popular all over the world; our order books are full. This makes us confident that we will grow again this year as well. For the coming months, we anticipate ongoing good utilization of capacity and additional shifts at our two domestic plants in Germany.”
“The Works Council approved the special shifts that the management applied for in the first few weeks of the year in order to make our manufacturing as economic as possible. The order situation is excellent and the additional shifts demonstrate the high flexibility of our employees. Because of the high demand for Audi’s A6 and A7 models, the company added 12 shifts in the first quarter at its Neckarsulm, Germany plant. It also plans to add even more shifts in April. Through an e-mailed statement, we learned that Audi built about 2,600 more cars in Neckarsulm than originally planned in the quarter, according to personnel director Thomas Sigi.
Neckarsulm is Audi’s No. 2-largest plant after its main factory in Ingolstadt. In the statement, Audi said that in the first quarter of 2013, the economic conditions stayed “difficult.” However, it appears that luxury-car segment is resilient as Audi continues to take many orders even as the total market in Europe has been declining.

In order to make the A6 saloon and Avant as well as the A7 Sportback models more attractive, Audi unveiled the Black Edition a.k.a. three new models that combine emphatic styling with the most extensive equipment list in each range, and are priced from £35,010 OTR to £56,785 OTR. The first visual impact with this edition shows the impressive 20-inch rotor-design alloy wheels with a dark titanium finish on the A6 saloon and avant and 21-inch wheels on the A7 Sportback.
Moreover, the models come with lowered sports suspension, which is a standard feature of the S line models. Regarding the design, the Black Edition models feature a black finish for the grille and number plate surrounds and the window frame strips but also privacy glass that extends from the B-pillar rearwards.
The A6 Avant comes equipped with black roof rails. Audi introduces its new 313PS Biturbo TDI engine, which is available for the A6 Saloon and Avant as well as for the A7 Sportback models. This new twin-turbo V6 is noted for being the most powerful six-cylinder diesel engine offered by the Vorsprung durch Technik brand ever.
It is also notable for being the sweetest-sounding. The engine is available in A6 models priced from £43,810 OTR. Its price in the A7 Sportback begins at £51,645 OTR. It integrates the trademark Audi TDI refinement with an exhaust-mounted sound actuator that enables it to provide a powerful 650Nm output to the tune of a distinctly sporting soundtrack.
The latest V6 is ranking above the single-turbo 204PS and 245PS variants of the 3.0 TDI that are already featured in the A6 and A7 Sportback lineups. The new engine has a two-stage turbocharger group that provides a maximum boost pressure of 3.2 bar, aiding the A6 3.0 BiTDI quattro Saloon to accelerate from a standstill to 62mph in 5.1 seconds. The same acceleration is made in the A6 Avant and A7 Sportback, but in 5.3 seconds. There is a new ‘one-stop-shop’ option package dubbed Technology Package Advanced that’s offered for all Audi A6 and A7 Sportback models. Any model from the Saloon, Avant, allroad and Sportback lineups could be equipped with nine advanced convenience and occupant protection features such as Google Earth navigation mapping, in-car Wi-Fi and the Audi pre-sense multi-level safety system. Notably, these ranges are already known for being technologically advanced.
The package on the A6 models is priced at £3,250 while on the A7 Sportback, it costs £3,750. This represents savings of at least £1,085 when compared with adding up the cost of the individual options. The Technology Package Advanced has the following entertainment and information enhancements: MMI navigation plus the MMI Touch fingertip recognition system, a color Driver’s Information System, Audi Music Interface iPod connection and a Bluetooth mobile phone interface providing access to Google Earth navigation maps and creating an in-car Wi-Fi hotspot.
The A7 Sportback gets a sophisticated head-up display that projects navigation and entertainment information onto the windscreen so that it seems to be floating about two metres in front of the car. Audi A6 (C8) is still quite fresh in the market but already, artists have been rendering the said model, with variants of their own. Recently, we saw a hot RS6 makeover of the sporty saloon, but now, artist Tobias Buttner gives us his take on the German luxury saloon, giving it a more rugged theme. As you could see in the photos, this is a rendering of the A6 Allroad model. Like all the Allroad models, it adopts new body cladding and a higher ride height, both in an effort to enhance off road practicality.
The standard styling cues of the standard A6 are carried over, of course, but there are also a number of unique variations to note. For instance, the grille, while still large and imposing, features vertical chrome inserts as opposed to the horizontal design found of the standard model. The accenting vents have been made more subtle, and there is a silver running board located just below the grille.
Expect the ride height to be a little higher, and there’s plastic body cladding around the wheels that assures that it will be able to take on tougher roads, without leaving the paint of the fenders scratched. The previous model is just a bit taller, with its height raised by just 3.5 centimeters (35 mm) over the standard sedan, with an available one extra centimetre (10 mm) of lift available at low speeds. Just a month ago, Audi unveiled the all-new A6 Sedan (C8), and it seems more comfortable, sportily elegant and digitalized than its predecessor. The German premium carmaker didn’t wait long to reveal the more practical version of the new A6 Sedan – the new 2019 Audi A6 Avant (C8) – featuring the same stunning design and spacious interior.
As a twin of the new Audi A6 Sedan, the A6 Avant features a striking and dynamic design, especially at the front half. The A6 Avant looks very much the same as the A6 Sedan, except for the rear half that has designed to deliver a more spacious cabin that is more practical for both passengers and cargo. In terms of dimensions, the new Audi A6 Avant measures 4.94 meters (16.2 ft) in length, 1.89 meters (6.2 ft) in width and 1.47 meters (4.8 ft) in height. With these dimensions, the interior of the new A6 Avant is larger than on its predecessor. It also offers larger front and rear elbow rooms as well as larger rear knee room.
In terms of luggage space, the new A6 Avant is as spacious as its predecessor, with a loading width of 1,050 mm (3.5 ft) and a capacity 565 liters (20.0 cu. ft.). When the backrests are folded down, the cargo capacity surges to 1,680 liters (59.3 cu. ft.). As standard, the tailgate and the luggage compartment cover of the A6 Avant open electrically. Audi has officially released images of its new A6 sedan. While this eight-generation sedan was scheduled to make an appearance at this year's 2018 Geneva Motor Show, the brand was forced to release photos and information after images were leaked to the internet. This makes the new A6 (C8) official as it prepares to join the A7 and the A8.
Under the hood, the new A6 shows that it has the same maneuverability as a compact while also having the handling of a sports car. The redesigned suspensions means the use of aluminum in a number of areas and aids in ride quality even when getting the optional 21-inch wheels fitted with the low-profile tires. For many owners, this mix is rarely seen as something that offers comfort.
While the new version and the previous one may appear to be similar, a closer look reveals some differences. In terms of dimensions, the changes are really minute. The Audi A7 Sportback, whether you would like to call it a sportback or a four-door coupe, has always been a beautiful car. And this week, the 2019 model year will be debuting in Germany with an even more striking appearance since we first saw it seven years ago.
Beginning with numbers, it is a bit shorter than its predecessor at 195.6 inches long, and is now only 55.9 tall, so it appears to sit closer to the ground. Unlike the A8, it has a wider face and a lower grille, giving it a sportier appearance. The hood now has lines that lead to the broader front fenders. Like its predecessor, it has got a sleek roof that seamlessly plunges toward a pop-up spoiler. As for the trunk capacity, there is 18.9 cubic feet of storage that can be maximized to 49.1 cubic feet when the seats are folded down. The rear end gets one full-width tail light that stretches from one end to another, and is made up of 13 individual LED strips that varies in height across the width of the trunklid. Customers will be able to get wheels as large as 21 inches in diameter.
With a stylish exterior comes with a stylish cabin as well. It is light and airy with plenty of horizontal lines up the dashboard and door panels. In fact, the 2019 A7’s interior resembles that of the new A8. Despite its shorter length, passengers get an increase in headroom as well as rear knee space, thanks to the extra 0.8 inch interior length. We are all aware that Audi has plans to reveal the 2018 A7 Sportback soon, specifically towards the end of the year. Though we expected a grand reveal and a full-sized vehicle, we were surprised by something much smaller - that is, a die cast scale model of the Sportback.
What just happened? Well, Autoweek.nl has leaked an image of the A7 Sportback, except it isn’t the real car. Rather, it is a scale model, which makes it much smaller than what all of us expected to see. Of course, this can’t beat the awesomeness of the real model. In earlier spy shots, the A7 and S7 will have a design that mixes together elements from the first-generation car combined with the Prologue series of concept cars.
Though the leaked image just shows a scale model, we could still kind of tell how the A7 Sportback will look. The A7’s face resembles that of the A8, and we already know that based on the spy shots we have seen before. What’s new is the fact that the scale model shows us a more sculpted hood and more body lines. As many of us know, RS versions of any Audi’s vehicle models are more powerful and more dynamic than their S counterparts. Thus, for the Audi A7 model family, the RS7 is definitely a much better performer than the S7. But this is not applicable in the case of the Audi S7 tuned by M&D Exclusive Cardesign. This tuned S7 should leave the RS7 behind the dust.
One of the primary reasons why the Audi RS7 has more performance than the S7 is the engine. Both the Audi S7 and the RS7 are powered by the same engine that is differently tuned for each model. The 4.0-liter turbocharged TFSI V8 engine on the latest S7 (2017 model year) could provide 450 hp of max output and 406 lb.-ft. of peak torque. This level of power pales compared to a better tuned TFSI V8 engine that delivers 560 hp of max output and 516 lb.-ft. of peak torque for the 2017 Audi RS7. A higher performance variant of the RS7 boasts of having 605 hp of max output and 553 lb.-ft. of peak torque at its disposal.
However, the Audi S7 tuned by M&D Exclusive Cardesign isn’t the 2017 version – but the 2013 model is used instead. The 2013 Audi S7 – as standard -- features a V8 engine that could provide 420 hp of output and 406 lb.-ft. of torque. Driving through 14 countries on one tank of fuel earned Audi and the RAC a new Guinness World Record title. For this challenge, the unmodified Audi A6 TDI ultra was chosen. The vehicle easily surpassed its official rating of 67mpg with an average of 75.9mpg. It completed 1158.9 miles without requiring a fuel-stop.
For almost 28 hours, the A6 TDI ultra was driven by motoring journalist Andrew Frankel and racing driver Rebecca Jackson from the Netherlands to Hungary, while passing through Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Austria, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Serbia.

Audi has announced that local production of the A6 L e-tron in China will start in 2016. The very fuel-efficient and powerful A6 L e-tron sedan was developed especially for the market in China. The plug-in hybrid drive produces 180 kW (245 hp) and boasts an average fuel consumption of only 2.2 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (106.9 US mpg).
The automaker had launched the e-tron era in the Chinese market with the imported A3 Sportback e-tron in 2015. The A6 L e-tron is derived from the long version of the Audi A6, which is already in production in China. It has the configuration of a very efficient parallel hybrid, which means that its two drives are positioned one directly at the back of the other.
The 2.0 TFSI is a highly advanced, four-cylinder gasoline engine that can deliver 155 kW (211 hp) and 350 Nm (258.1 lb-ft) of torque. It is equipped with a disk-shaped electric motor that produces 91 kW and 220 Nm (162.3 lb-ft) of torque. Audi introduced the A6 Hybrid back in 2010 but this model was not quite a best seller and according to the German manufacturer only 4,000 units left the showrooms. At the beginning, the A6 Hybrid made its debut in Europe but due to poor sales, the model didn’t reach the United States. Audi decided to drop the A6 Hybrid as the vehicle failed to impress the market and now it is too late to do it.
Last month the A6 Facelift arrived and as you may have noticed, the A6 Hybrid was not present in new lineup. Comparing it with other hybrid vehicles, the A6 Hybrid was not quite a masterpiece.

The top-of-the-line navigation system arrives with a power-retractable 8-inch monitor based on a new technology platform that uses the Tetra 30 graphics chip from Nvidia. Audi revealed today the A6 Facelift, an updated version of its popular model which is offered in three versions: Sedan, Avant and Allroad Quattro. Each model received subtle modifications such as an updated Singleframe grille, new headlights featuring a refreshed design for the LED daytime running lights, redesigned air inlets, bumpers, side sills, rear lights and tailpipes.
As an option, the 2015 Audi A6 Facelift is available with Matrix LED technology. According to the German company, the A6 Facelift arrives with an intelligent composite construction concept where the body is extremely rigid and safe. Thanks to its aluminum components and hot-shaped steel, the new A6 1.8 TFSI has a curb weight (without the driver) of 1,535 kg (1184.1 lb).
The new Audi design collection in the interior offers the flint gray colour, while the front seats are now available with optional ventilation and massage functions. Earlier today we talked about the facelifted 2015 Audi A6 Sedan and Avant models, but now we will take a closer look at the 2015 A6 Allroad Quattro Facelift. Based on the A6 Avant, the new A6 Allroad Quatttro is able to take its passengers almost anywhere thanks to its raised body and steel lining that underside of the front and rear ends.
When it comes to design, the new model features vertical slats in the Singleframe grille, new headlights that can be configured as an option with LED or matrix LED technology, as well as a new set of taillights that get a new LED design. According to Audi, the A6 Allroad Quattro Facelift is offered with a choice of four 3.0-liter V6 engines, a 3.0-liter TFSI and three versions of the 3.0-liter TDI engine.

Audi A6 Sedan won the International Design Excellence Award 2012 (IDEA) for its innovative design. This design award is one of the most prestigious in the U.S. The A6 family seems to be on a roll as it was recently given the red dot award.
A6 Sedan was able to fend off its competition from around the world to get the Silver Award in the ‘Transportation’ category of the International Design Excellence Award 2012. Wolfgang Egger, Audi’s Head of Design, is glad that the model isn’t admired just by its customers in Europe. Rather, the award is proof that its design idiom is understood and is well-accepted by consumers in the U.S.
Egger said that what the Industrial Designers Society of America liked about the model are its dynamic looks and the interplay of design idiom and innovative technology in the A6 Sedan.
