Ingolstadt’s design honcho Marc Lichte recently had a talk with L’argus, a French online publication concerning Audi’s new premium models. Surprisingly, this brief conversation leads up to reveal not just a few details but also the official sketches of their new lineup. What you’re seeing right now are the designs of the A6 Sedan, A7 Sportback and the all-new Audi A8. Well, there’s no better way to compare each new model than having them side by side, is there?
While flipping through these drawings ourselves, we thought they all seem to look the same. Except maybe for the new A7--- which bears the sportiest design of the three new sedans. But as we gazed more closely at every detail, we determined how each one is very different from the other. That’s when we noticed how Audi’s new single-frame grille comes with different characteristics.
Since the A6 sedan has relatively smaller configuration, its bumper grille also has a design of its own. After yesterday’s announcement, the Audi A7 Sportback h-Tron Quattro technology demonstrator was unveiled at the 2014 LA Auto Show. According to Audi, the h-tron quattro uses a sporty electric drive with a fuel cell as its energy source, in combination with the hybrid battery and an addition electric motor in the rear.
The total output delivered by the electrical system is 229 hp (170 kW) and as expected it is transferred to both the front and rear wheels. Audi says that the A7 Sportback h-tron Quattro can hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.9 seconds, while top speed is 180 km/h or almost 112 mph.
Meanwhile, with a full tank of fuel, the vehicle has a range of over 500 km (310.7 miles), while emitting only few drops of water. If the exterior shows just a standard A7 Sportback, beneath the stylish design there is a fuel cell installed at the front. Audi decided to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its TDI technology in style and as a result it revealed the A7 Sportback 3.0 TDI Competition Edition model. The new model comes with new modifications in the charging and camshafts of the 3.0-liter TDI biturbo diesel engine that boost the power by 7 hp (5 kW) to 326 hp (240 kW) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque between 1,400 and 2,800 rpm.
With these numbers, the 2015 A7 Sportback 3.0 TDI Competition Edition sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.1 seconds, while top speed is limited at 250 km/h or 155 mph. Despite the impressive performances, fuel consumption remains low at 6.1 liters of fuel for every 100 kilometers (38.6 US mpg), while CO2 emissions are 162 grams per kilometer.
Moreover, the special edition model features the S line sport package, which also includes lowering the body by 20 millimeters (0.8 in), as well as 20-inch five-spoke W design with black painted sides. Audi announced that it will introduce new, lightweight suspension springs made of glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) on an upper mid-sized model before the end of the year. Our guess is that the vehicle that will receive the new springs is the 2015 Audi A7 although we have to see a confirmation from the German manufacturer.
According to the official press release, the GFRP springs were developed with an Italian supplier and as obvious, they look different than the standard steel springs. First if all, the GFRP are green, while the fiber strand is thicker than the wire of a steel spring.
In addition, the GFRP spring has a lower number of coils and a slightly large overall diameter. Still, the most important thing is that it is 40 percent lighter when compared with the steel springs. Audi has just unveiled the facelifted 2015 A7/S7 Sportback models announcing new configurations, transmissions headlights, taillights and infotainment system. As you can see from the pictures, the most striking changes are found on the Singleframe grille, bumpers tailpipes and headlights. Audi now offers as standard LED technology and as an option, the German carmaker can supply Matrix LED headlights.
The interior was updated too with new materials, including the aluminum/Beaufort walnut inlay and Valcona leather. For the 2015MY, Audi redesigned the color palette that offers five color options. The 2015 Audi A7 Sportback Facelift is offered with a choice of fiveengines, two TFSI and three TDI.
Their power rating ranges from 160 kW (218 hp) to 245 kW (333 hp), and all of them comply with the Euro 6 emission standard. The 3.0-liter TDI V6 Clean Diesel delivers 272 hp (200 kW) or 218 hp (160 kW). It has been quite a long wait for the 2019 Audi RS5 Sportback. For a time, all we’ve had to look at was its placeholder, the RS5 Coupe, which is now available throughout dealerships in the United States. Now, we have finally seen the larger and more sophisticated version of the said model, and it is stunning.
Physically, the RS5 Sportback model stretches out a little more compared to the standard coupe. The hips have been made wider by over half an inch (15 millimeters) on each side, and it has also been made lower by .28 inches (7 millimeters) making it sit closer to the ground. What finishes off the look would be the bigger wheels (of either the standard 19 inches, or the 20 inch wheels that come as an option) and larger air intakes.

Scott Keogh, President of Audi of America, said in his interview with Roadshow that the United States market will again be able to get their hands on a RS5 Sportback that will soon join the RS5 Coupe. It took a while for the automaker to mention the existence of a range-topping variant of the stylish four door. Information on its availability in different regions has also not been divulged yet.
But that is not all. In fact, Keogh mentioned that they have another surprise that they are working on, though he stopped himself from saying further and did not reveal what it was. Instead, he teased us by saying that there is a cool European model that they have not brought in to the United States just yet, and that he considers it to be his number one car, and they perhaps they will get it. But to date, he did not confirm any of these reports.
If you analyze what Keogh said even further, there are a number of possibilities for this. Keogh could be referring to an RS4 Avant, depending on the timeframe he has in mind. That is because the said model is already ready right now and that it only needs an executive to sign off so it could already be added to the US lineup. The Audi RS5 Coupe is a real stunner with its athletic looks and sporty performance. Regarded as a Gran Turismo among RS models by Audi Sport’s chief executive, the Audi RS5 Coupe offers 450 hp (336 kW) of max output and a 442 lb.-ft. (600 Nm) of peak torque, as derived from a 2.9 liter bi-turbo V6 engine. Getting a top-down version of the Audi RS5 Coupe is out of the question for now, but the good guys at ABT Sportsline are willing to offer a beefed up variant of the Audi S5 Cabriolet.
It is not exactly the RS5 Cabriolet, but ABT Sportsline’s creation is close – the ABT S5 Cabriolet. The most fundamental change made for the S5 Cabriolet is its power rating. As standard, a typical Audi S5 Cabriolet is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 turbo engine that could deliver 354 hp (260 kW) of max output and 500 Nm of peak torque.
That’s nowhere close to the power rating of the dynamic mill inside the RS5 Cabriolet. However, the German tuner’s ABT Engine Control (AEC) made this already powerful engine become more dynamic, with the output and torque levels surging to 425 hp (313 kW) and 550 Nm, respectively. Last week, Audi’s luxury sportback, the 2019 Audi A7 made its debut. It isn’t only sleeker than its predecessor, but it is overall more refined too. After making its first public appearance, A7 fans quickly got to work and began rendering the said model, giving it even more performance cues. One of the renderings we noticed was that of a German artist named Tobias Büttner. Digitally, he gave the new A7 added RS performance pieces and it looks pretty mean.
Beginning with the front fascia, the new angular grille has been upgraded into an RS performance part. The standard base model comes with vertical slats, which have been changed into a honeycomb-style plastic mesh, the same with the side vents too. The front fender now gets a “Quattro” logo that’s displayed on the front fender, while the RS badge can be found on the grille.
As you can see in the photos, the 2019 Audi A7 rides on a new set of wheels that has been borrowed from the RS5 Sportback. The rear now has a more aggressive diffuser that has been given massive dual exhaust tips. To cap off the exterior look, the car has been lowered, and has also been finished in Audi’s signature Nogaro Blue paint job - making it look sportier than the standard model. The Audi A7 Sportback, whether you would like to call it a sportback or a four-door coupe, has always been a beautiful car. And this week, the 2019 model year will be debuting in Germany with an even more striking appearance since we first saw it seven years ago.
Beginning with numbers, it is a bit shorter than its predecessor at 195.6 inches long, and is now only 55.9 tall, so it appears to sit closer to the ground. Unlike the A8, it has a wider face and a lower grille, giving it a sportier appearance. The hood now has lines that lead to the broader front fenders. Like its predecessor, it has got a sleek roof that seamlessly plunges toward a pop-up spoiler. As for the trunk capacity, there is 18.9 cubic feet of storage that can be maximized to 49.1 cubic feet when the seats are folded down. The rear end gets one full-width tail light that stretches from one end to another, and is made up of 13 individual LED strips that varies in height across the width of the trunklid. Customers will be able to get wheels as large as 21 inches in diameter.
With a stylish exterior comes with a stylish cabin as well. It is light and airy with plenty of horizontal lines up the dashboard and door panels. In fact, the 2019 A7’s interior resembles that of the new A8. Despite its shorter length, passengers get an increase in headroom as well as rear knee space, thanks to the extra 0.8 inch interior length. We are all aware that Audi has plans to reveal the 2018 A7 Sportback soon, specifically towards the end of the year. Though we expected a grand reveal and a full-sized vehicle, we were surprised by something much smaller - that is, a die cast scale model of the Sportback.
What just happened? Well, Autoweek.nl has leaked an image of the A7 Sportback, except it isn’t the real car. Rather, it is a scale model, which makes it much smaller than what all of us expected to see. Of course, this can’t beat the awesomeness of the real model. In earlier spy shots, the A7 and S7 will have a design that mixes together elements from the first-generation car combined with the Prologue series of concept cars.
Though the leaked image just shows a scale model, we could still kind of tell how the A7 Sportback will look. The A7’s face resembles that of the A8, and we already know that based on the spy shots we have seen before. What’s new is the fact that the scale model shows us a more sculpted hood and more body lines. Audi currently does not have any fully electric model that they can call their own after the R8 E-Tron has been discontinued last year. But this year, they showed us concepts of the E-Tron Quattro and the E-Tron Sportback (at Auto Shanghai), and the good news is that the zero-emissions SUV will finally begin production at their Brussels, Belgium factory. The SUV will then be followed by its sleeker counterpart, the Sportback, in 2019.
What sets the E-Tron Sportback apart from the others is the fact that it is a “four-door gran turismo”, with a powertrain of 430 horsepower (320 kilowatts) at standard, and an impressive 496 horsepower (370 kilowatts) when the boost mode is activated. In just four and a half seconds, it can hit 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour). That’s very impressive for a full electric vehicle, but we shouldn’t be too excited until the production model has been tested, and that’s a long while from now.

The largest gathering of Volkswagen and Audi cars in Europe is underway, and the German premium carmaker is displaying the third model of its G-Tron range at the 2017 Worthersee Meeting wrapped in special finish and with apparent aesthetic tweaks.
Audi unveiled the production version of the new Audi A5 Sportback G-Tron at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show in March. Before the model’s eventual introduction to the market in early summer, Audi is making sure that the new G-Tron car gains more attention from the public by showcasing a one-off variant at the Worthersee Meeting.
The A5 Sportback G-Tron at Worthersee sports a customized two-tone exterior to make it more appealing. However, it isn’t a fully modified unit, unlike the VW GTI First Decade concept that is also being displayed at the event. Around two-thirds – starting from the front end -- of the exterior of this one-off A5 Sportback G-Tron is wrapped in dark grey finish. It then blends with a honeycomb blue finish on the rear side doors. A couple of days ago, Audi announced an update in terms of the pricing of their 2018 lineup. With the price increase, several models will have more features as standard equipment while there will be more models that will have sportier interior and exterior design packages.
The Audi A3 Sportback E-Tron had always been a successful model since it was first released in the United States. Sales charts of the said model from January 2016 up until March this year indicate that the model is doing well. In fact, the model made up around 13 percent of all Audi A3 sales in its first eight months, and by last December, the percentage went up to 20 percent.
The 2017 model was first sold with a price tag of $37,900, and it soon increased to $38,900. And naturally, there will be a price increase for the 2018 year model, with the Premium trim at $39,500, the Premium Plus at $42,600, and $48,100 for the range-topping Prestige. Audi is now working on an all new A7 Sportback along with the new the RS7 and S7 variants. That said, it’s still a couple of years more before an RS7 will come strutting its way into the showrooms.
While waiting, Peisert Design has a vision of what the next Audi RS7 would look like. Taking its cues from the spy shots and leaked images of the new A7, the designer has adopted the same edgy design into the creative visual art which includes Audi’s more aggressive front grille and pointed headlamps.
While the rendering artist hasn’t touched the current model’s rear diffuser and tailpipes in oval shape, the redesigned tail lamps has been extended all the way to the Sportback’s wider rear end. Two years ago at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, Audi presented the E-Tron Quattro to the public. This gave us an idea that they will soon be producing crossovers. The Quattro will be moving into production by 2018, and a year later, a coupe version of it will follow. This crossover-coupe they call the E-Tron Sportback made its debut at the Auto Shanghai in China just this week, along with two other electric concepts from competitors: the VW I.D. Crozz and the Skoda Vision E.
Similar to Volkswagen I.D. Crozz, Audi’s E-Tron Sportback also features light emitting diodes. The four-rings brand not only equips this new concept with full LED headlights and taillights. It also gets an illuminated Audi logo. Instead, it is supposed to have approximately 250 extra LEDs located around the front bumper, precisely on both sides of the corporate singleframe grille. But these lights do not only have one purpose - they are made to communicate with other cars on the road forming different light patterns - from shapes to numbers as seen on its concept video debut.
The E-Tron Sportback isn’t just about smart LEDs. At 4.9 meters long, 1.98 meters wide, and 1.53 meters tall, this coupe has a strong electric powertrain that can produce as much as 430 horsepower (320 kilowatts), and can reach a peak of 496 horsepower (370 kilowatts) when the boost mode is activated. Audi has been delighting fans and critics alike with teaser videos of its newest concept fitted with numerous LEDs. The German automaker is back to show off a more “substantial” preview of its latest creation – now complete with a name and a few adjacent sketches, enough to reveal its body style and a few exterior features. We’ve come to know that Audi’s latest creation is called the Audi E-Tron Sportback Concept. However, despite being called a “Sportback,” we’re expecting this concept car to be a crossover-coupe combination. From the photos released by Audi themselves, we can conclude that the E-Tron Sportback Concept isn’t just a typical hatchback like the A3 Sportback as it’s something far better.
As expected (and as depicted in design teaser sketches), the concept is fitted with a set of oversized wheels. Its heavily sloped roofline ending is reminiscent of a coupe but accentuated by an interesting spoiler which features two arches on both sides. It has been revealed that Audi Sport is setting up the final touches on what could be the newest member of the brand’s RS range. This comes just after Audi unveiled at the recently concluded 2017 Geneva Motor Show the new 2018 RS5 Coupe. Spotted lately has been the RS4 Avant which is undergoing the final stages of testing.
The question on everyone’s mind right now though is what is going to follow the RS4 Avant. X-Tomi Design though has presented a possible rendering of a Sportback version and even a RS5 Shooting Brake. The latter however is done more out of fun as there is little or no possibility that it will ever be developed.
To be clear though, Audi did not say that it will be coming out with a RS5 Sportback. However, fans have seen a dealer presentation conducted in Norway showing that this version is presently included in the pipeline. In the same presentation, it was also disclosed that the RS5 Coupe is expected to be in assembly lines by June. The RS4 Avant is then expected to be in the assembly line by December with a potential premiere during this September’s Frankfurt Motor Show. Audi refreshes its portfolio as its go-faster division officially announces the release of six new RS models by the end of 2018. That’s quite a huge number of cars to develop simultaneously. Now, should main competitors BMW and Mercedes-Benz be wary of Audi’s upcoming projects?
Ex-Lamborghini boss, and now Audi Sport’s CEO, Stephan Winkelmann confirms this news in an interview with Car & Driver, just after saying that he was not interested in developing the Sports Quattro and had other things to focus on. He continues by saying that they are working on a crossover that is due in no time. Here, he refers to the upcoming Q-badged models that will top the current RS models.
So let us discuss these models one by one. Although Winkelmann did not specify which SUVs, it’s not that hard to guess. In fact, the company did mention in 2015 that an RS Q5 and Q7 would be a good idea. Other than that, they did release a concept earlier this month at the Geneva Motor Show, which they called the Q8 Sport Concept.
