Futuristic Audi Q4 E-Tron concept from Lorenzo Mariotti looks promising

Audi has been hard at work as it is kicking off a new breed of SUVs, just like the E-Tron Sportback that made its debut earlier and is set for production in 2019. The Sportback looks sleeker and sexier than the standard E-Tron that will come out next year. But these developments give rise to artists who would like to reimagine a model and explore the possibilities. Now, Lorenzo Mariotti used his Autodesk skills to design something that got inspiration from the E-Tron models - a Q4 E-Tron Concept. The concept combined high tech elements with the electric coupe concept that sits on massive wheels.

From the outside, it has a long wheelbase with shorter front and rear overhangs. This design can be very functional as it maximizes the interior space of the SUV. The front fascia introduces a new single frame grille complemented with slim laser LED headlights. The design gives it a sleeker, more modern representation of Audi's SUVs. However, the Q4 E-Tron is currently going to remain in the virtual world.

What makes it even more futuristic is the fact that the design, like the E-Tron Sportback and Q8 concept, does not incorporate conventional door handles for a seamless side profile. The side mirrors and cameras had also been taken out to make it look totally sleek. But how would you see what's behind you? What will replace these that can provide the same functions? The answer lies in future technologies.

Audi Q4 Concept previewed before its official debut at Auto China 2014

Audi has just unveiled the latest sketched of its newest concept car that will be revealed at the Beijing Motor Show a.k.a. Auto China 2014. As you may know already, this new concept car previews the upcoming Audi Q4 that will take on cars such as the recently introduced BMW X4 and the Porsche Macan.

Taking a closer look at the sketches we can see that it shares similar design cues with the Allroad Shooting Brake Concept that made its debut back in January at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show. The new Q4 Concept features the well-known Audi signature grille, LED headlights, a clamshell-style hood, prominent wheelarch flares but also a sexy curved roofline.

The rear end looks inspired by the new Audi TT featuring stylish taillights, a roof spoiler as well as a two-pipe exhaust system. Inside, we find enough space for four persons, each sitting on individual sport bucket seats. Under the hood, there is a plug-in petrol-electric hybrid drivetrain just like the one seen on the Allroad Shooting Brake Concept.

Official: Audi confirms Bmw X6 rival! Also thinking at the new Q4 smaller SUV!

If yesterday it was just a rumor, today it became official: Audi will build a rival to the Bmw X6 and may also launch a challenger to the upcoming Bmw X4 (inspired by the Vw Cross Coupe Concept). These words came from Walter de' Silva, design boss at Audi parent Volkswagen Group, who confirmed that Audi signed off on plans for the X6 rival.

Although de’ Silva didn’t want to give any details regarding the date when the car will be launched we do expect this car within three years as Audi aims to overtake Bmw and become the best-selling premium brand by 2015.

The car is currently dubbed as the Q6 by the media and it will feature a low-roof SUV-coupe crossover shape. As expected, the vehicle will be fitted between the Q7 premium large SUV and Q5 premium medium SUV. "We will definitely launch a sportier crossover in between the Q7 and Q5," de' Silva said.

Audi is starting the crossovers war: Q2, Q4 and Q6 in the works

Audi’s SUV lineup (composed of the Q3, Q5 and Q7) is expected to double in 2016 with the arrival of the Q2, Q4, and Q6. The even-numbered SUVs will be sportier than what’s currently offered. Audi believes that the demand for the up-market SUVs is strong worldwide.

An Audi insider told Autocar that the demand for SUVs and crossovers remains to be in an upswing phase and will continue to do so for several more years. The insider said that Audi wants to be sure that it would be able to cope with the demand.

It’s still unclear if the new Q2 SUV will bear the Q1 name but it’s expected to be the new baby in Audi’s SUV lineup. It will be built on a future four-wheel drive version of the A1’s platform, which will also be used by a Volkswagen cousin.
