For those who were waiting the Audi RS1 we have bad news as the German manufacturer confirmed to TopGear that there will not be such a vehicle in its lineup. Apparently, the main reason is financial, as Audi needs to sell lots of units in order to make it profitable.
A second reason is that the RS1 needs to be more powerful than the S1 but if Audi makes it too powerful, it would become a rival for the S3. This means that if you want a small hot hatch from Audi, you need to get the S1 or the S1 Sportback.
These models are powered by a 2.0-liter TFSI petrol engine fitted with a turbocharger that produces 231 hp (170 kW) and 370 Nm (273 lb-ft) of torque. Earlier today, we revealed you the first photo with the Audi S1 Sportback Quattro, but now several new photos emerged on the Web so we decided to show you folks everything. Set to make its online debut tomorrow and the world debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, the Audi S1 Sportback Quattro looks just like a pocket rocket and we guess that it will be the perfect rival to the upcoming MINI John Cooper works (JCW).
According to the first info, the S1 Sportback Quattro will use a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine, which will generate around 220 hp and deliver all that power using a six-speed manual gearbox to all four wheels using the Quattro all-wheel driver system.

According to the latest reports, it appears that Volkswagen Group is working hard on the PQ25 platform for all-wheel drive. This platform will be used by the forthcoming Audi S1. The S1 is rumored to receive around 270 hp, and the new PQ25 platform will be the perfect fit to put all that amount of power on the road.
As you may know already, Audi introduced the A1 1.4 TFSI at this year’s Paris Motor Show, and this car was believed to be the S1 (the decision to rename the car to A1 1.4 TFSI was a last minute move).

As you may know already, many reports suggested that Audi will bring the S1 sporty hatchback to the 2010 Paris Motor Show.
Instead, Audi unveiled the 2011 A1 1.4 TFSI and everybody was kind of disappointed because this car doesn’t have ‘S’ badges but also by the fact that it’s 1.4-liter engine with four valves per cylinder delivers 185 hp (136 kW) and 250 Nm (184.39 lb-ft) of torque.

A 2011 model Audi A1 compact hatchback will be introduced to the market next year and it won't be as affordable as either the Toyota iQ or the Vw Up! but it will be a high rated vehicle created to compete with the likes of the Mini Cooper and it will also have its own S1 sports version. The S1 will arrive several months subsequent to the introduction of the A1.
Leading the A1 series will be the Audi S1 which is equipped with 200 hp (147kW) and quattro all-wheel-drive. The S1 will be propelled by a 1.4-liter TFSI supercharged and turbocharged powerplant with a maximum torque of 221lb-ft (200 Nm) that comes with a 7-speed S-tronic double-clutch gear.

Both models of the Civic have been upgraded for the 2019 model year, especially inside their cabins. Interested customers could now head out to their nearest Honda retailers to avail of the new 2019 Honda Civic Hatchback and the new 2019 Honda Civic Type R.
The Honda Civic Hatchback is one of the cash cows in the carmaker’s Civic lineup. Accounting for around 20 percent of all Civic sales, the Civic Hatchback is on its way to become best-selling car in the United States in 2018, thereby defending its crown it has held in the past two years. For 2019, the Civic Hatchback will still be available in five trims: LX, Sport, EX, EX-L with Navigation and Sport Touring. Mercedes-AMG has a new entry-level performance model that will compete in the compact segment. Set to go against the Audi S3 hatchback, the new Mercedes-AMG A35 4MATIC is out to prove that premium hot hatches are able to deliver a new level of driving performance on the road.
The Mercedes-AMG A 35 4MATIC was developed along with the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class right from the start, allowing AMG to inject the vaunted AMG DNA into every detail of the new hot hatch. The Mercedes-AMG A 35 4MATIC makes use of the design idiom of the new A-Class with the addition of distinctive AMG elements.
For instance, the front end of the new AMG A 35 4MATIC is marked by a radiator grille with twin louvers, a front splitter and a AMG Line front apron with flics on the air intakes. Silver chrome trims are also found on the louvers in the outer air intakes. A few days back, we discussed that Ford’s plan involves retiring most of its compact cars and sedans and replacing them with SUVs. However, there would be two small models that will remain in the lineup -- the Mustang and the Focus Active, at least for the United States. So what is the automaker’s reason for doing so? Well, the answer is as simple as this - money.
To support that statement, Jim Hackett, Ford’s CEO said in his interview with Automotive News that they have decided to just focus on the healthier part of the business, referring to trucks and crossovers. In the first quarter of 2018 alone, the company’s sales of $3 billion all came from this segment. Soon, 90 percent of all sales will come from this.
The CEO added that they will soon deal with the parts of the company that destroy value. He, of course, is speaking of sedans and hatchbacks. In fact, by 2022, they hope to uncover $25.5 billion in savings with the switch to SUVs and trucks. The Toyota Corolla iM, once offered in the United States under the name Scion iM, is a compact five door model that the Japanese automaker decided to give a new name for the next generation - the 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback. This model essentially is a North American version of the Euro-spec Auris that made an appearance at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.
When being compared to the model it replaces, the car has been elongated by 1.5 inches, now being 172 inches long. The wheelbase, on the other hand, measures 103.9 inches long and and is now 70.5 inches wider (1.2 inches wider), it has also been lowered by an inch, now being 56.6 inches from top to bottom.

After Opel’s launch of the Insignia GSi last year in a liftback and a wagon body styles, Opel is ready to add the “GSi” badge on the Corsa. This will probably be the last variant for the current generation of the supermini, and the hot hatch version will have a three door body style to make it stand out from the lesser models of the range. Standard features that it will get include larger air vents, a honeycomb front grille, red brake calipers, a chrome exhaust tip, and a new set of 18 inch wheels.
The Opel Corsa GSi’s main highlight will be the Sport chassis that it borrowed from the hardcore OPC version that makes the hatchback feel more nimble around the corners. It had also been equipped with a beefier roof mounted spoiler that will boast the model’s visual appearance, while also generating extra downforce to keep the car close to the road when it is going fast.
At this moment, the automaker has not shared photos of the car’s interior cabin, but we do know that customers will be given the possibility to upgrade to Recaro seats if they are willing to spend a little more. The 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class, aka the fourth generation A-Class, has arrived. And some of the few things it boasts would be the technology upgrade, three new engines, and a slight increase in size. Overall, the hatchback gets a handful of cool features that makes it stand out from other models, while receiving physical improvements that turn it into a more stylish hatchback.
Firstly, its wheelbase has grown by 1.2 inches (30 millimeters), while its track is half an inch (14mm) wider. Because size has been increased, there will be more space for passenger, and I mean more shoulder and head room. Plus an increase in cargo capacity where they can put larger suitcases in. Passengers will also benefit from a more comfortable ride, thanks to the revised suspension. There are also optional active dampers that can be adjusted depending on the driving mode you choose.
Its new exterior, especially up front, has been made to look more angular. It also looks more aggressive because of the new downward sloping nose and a pair of tilted headlights. Immediately after the 2018 Detroit Auto Show, automakers are now shifting their focus to the next major event, and that is the 2018 Geneva Motor Show that will be taking place in March. One of the first companies that have teased us with what’s soon to come would be Land Rover, with their fancy new Range Rover SV Coupe. Now, it is Kia’s turn as they are ready to reveal the sporty GT Line specification for its Rio supermini.
To give you a refresher, some models that are members of the GT Line family include the Picanto, Sportage, Optima and Sorento, and this new Rio GT Line is simply a visual pack that will give the B-segment hatchback a sportier exterior appearance. Up front, there will be a set of four-point “ice cube” LED fog lights, as it sits on a set of 17 inch alloy wheels that you can only get in this version. Kia has also added a few glossy black accents all over the model, contrasted with a chrome window trim and twin exhaust tips.
As for the interior, there aren’t a lot of things to discuss because the Rio GT will have the same interior as the standard Rio models. In fact, the only interior upgrade it gets is that it is now covered in a black synthetic leather and cloth upholstery with grey stitching, metallic accents, and carbon fiber look for the dashboard. Hyundai revealed to the press that it doesn’t plan on breaking any kind of top speed records with its newest N performance line. That is because the brand mainly focuses on the comfort and pleasure of driving its two new hatchbacks. When it comes to fun, the VW Golf GTI may be the first thing that comes to mind but the Korean automaker boldly claims that they might have beaten the said hatchback.
Albert Biermann, former head of BMW’s M division and the current head of Hyundai’s M division, shared to Australian publication Car Advice some details regarding the brand’s first high performance hatchback, the i30 N. He mentioned that the goal of this car is to make sure it is fun to drive daily, despite it being track-focused.
The automaker’s plan for the i30 N was to have it be a closer fit for the track than a Golf GTI could ever be. He also said that many GTIs can be taken to the track, but a standard GTI isn’t the same. It has been a while since Ford stared their campaign for the 2019 Focus, and this whole time, they have been sharing teasers of the car that will supposedly make its debut sometime next year. Apart from the teasers, we have actually already spotted two variants of the prototype on public roads - the hatchback and the sedan. Both prototypes were dressed in a unique livery with a hastag that says “TimeToFocus”. And just before the holidays, we got another teaser from the automaker, and that is a final look at the new hatchback.
To be frank, the new teaser is nothing new from what we have already seen so far. And as mentioned earlier, it is dressed in a colourful livery with the same hashtag. But this time, it is slightly more distinguishable. Ford’s campaign and tag line “time to focus” actually mean focusing on their new products in 2018. However, they automaker did not comment on the medium sized camouflaged car that has been tapped to be launched in Essex, Germany, and the United States.
If you have not heard, the Ford Focus will be manufactured at the company’s Changan facility in China. This decision they made will help the American company save as much as $1 billion in costs as opposed to manufacturing the cars in the United States. For American-spec models, the cars will be imported from China and will be assembled in Ford’s Wayne, Michigan plant. There may be several owners of the Ford Focus RS who have experienced seeing white smoke coming out from the exhaust of their performance-laden hatchback. Now, the American carmaker has admitted that a version of the engine powering the Focus RS for the 2016 and 2017 model years is causing this issue, Autocar has reported.
The issue became apparent after some Focus RS owners took their predicament to Focus RS forums and even posted videos about their concerns in social sharing site YouTube. Some owners even reported that the engine – an early version of the 2.3-liter EcoBoost mill – couldn’t be repaired by their dealers. Ford confirmed that the engine could develop an issue that causes it to consume coolant fluid. When the engine burns the coolant fluid, it would emit a white exhaust smoke as a result. So far, Ford hasn’t divulged the official cause of the issue, which reported affected cars with as little as 6,000 miles on their odometers.
A spokesman for the carmaker told Autocar that Ford is working on a repair for all customers, which may mean that even Focus RS models not exhibiting the issue would receive the fix. But before Ford rolls this out, it is saying that customers may bring their rides to their dealer – for an inspection and repair under warranty – if their Focus RS are showing the aforementioned symptom of white exhaust smoke. Ford today has revealed its new Focus RS Edition together with the complete details about its latest features, price and specifications. While on stage at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, the new hatchback is seen to be wearing a stunning new look while dressed in Nitrous Blue body paint and fitted with blackened front splitter, spoiler, roof, and black 19-inch wheels.
The hatchback’s stunning new features are also seen along the RS Edition’s more angular and more aggressive front grille and bumpers which are even more enhanced with its massive spoiler and large exhausts down the vehicle's rear section. The long-awaited 2018 Renault Megane RS has finally made its way to the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, after having been the subject of several spy photos and leaks. The Megane RS is definitely among the most-liked C-segment hot hatches as it comes with a number of technologies – including a turbo gasoline engine with two new transmission options.
It comes equipped with a 1.8-liter turbocharged gas motor with direct injection, like the one in the Alpine A110 sports car, instead of the older 2.0-liter turbo. This engine works with either a six-speed manual or a dual-clutch six-speed automatic transmission that includes paddle shifter and launch control, giving power to the front wheels. All this enables the Megane RS to carry out as much as 280 horsepower (205 kilowatts). It will also come with standard 355mm front discs with Brembo calipers that customers can swap for optional bi-material cast iron and aluminum discs.
But that’s not all that it can do, as customers can opt for the Megane RS Trophy version that should be out before 2019. This variant will have a little more power, giving out 300 horsepower (224 kilowatts). The last time SEAT gave the Leon range a refresh, it was given an extra push with an additional 10 horsepower, for a total of 300 horsepower. Despite the upgrade in performance, it was still a little less powerful than the Euro-spec VW Golf R after it went through a facelift. But this time, the SEAT Leon is at par with its counterpart from Wolfsburg, with the R version that gives it a total of 310 horsepower. That may not be that big of a difference, but it is still an upgrade.
Having said that, it will only be the six-speed manual version that will be getting 310 horsepower, while the DSG-version will only have 300 horsepower. Furthermore, just because it has an “R” badge doesn’t mean that this is an all-wheel-drive car. The range topping SEAT Leon will actually exclusively come with a front-wheel-drive layout. But if you would like to drive an AWD and have a larger trunk, you will have to deal with the 300 horsepower Leon Cupra wagon, which really is not that bad. Unlike the Golf R, the Leon Cupra R is going to be a limited-edition model that is only limited to a total of 799 examples, whereas the VW is a regular production model.
To make it stand out even more from its counterparts, SEAT gave the Leon range carbon fiber trim parts on the front and rear spoilers that come with larger front intakes plus side mirror caps finished in copper. The “Cupra” letting as well as the badges also get the same copper finish.
