In terms of rear-wheel drive performance cars, Japanese carmakers have been dominating this category in their own territory. One seldom sees foreign carmakers making headway in the local scene with their own rwd performance offers – with the exception of German auto companies. Audi of Japan has started offering the S1 supermini hot hatch, a small quattro car priced at JPY4,100,000 ($37,000).
However, aside from being expensive for its size (just four meters of length), it also offers little room inside. But what makes the S1 supermini a possible hot buy is the fact that it is powered by a 2.0 TFSI turbo engine, which delivers 231 PS of output at 6,000 rpm and 370 Nm of torque from 1,600 rpm. Mated to a six-speed short-throw manual, this 2.0 TFSI turbo engine allows the S1 supermini pocket rocket to move from zero 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds.
To stand out, Audi painted the S1 supermini in Vegas Yellow and installed different headlights than the regular A1 model, incorporating LED daytime running lights. Just like its S siblings, the S1 features silver door handles and a silver grille.Read the entire article Audi launches performance-laden S1 supermini in Japan
For those who were waiting the Audi RS1 we have bad news as the German manufacturer confirmed to TopGear that there will not be such a vehicle in its lineup. Apparently, the main reason is financial, as Audi needs to sell lots of units in order to make it profitable.
A second reason is that the RS1 needs to be more powerful than the S1 but if Audi makes it too powerful, it would become a rival for the S3. This means that if you want a small hot hatch from Audi, you need to get the S1 or the S1 Sportback.
These models are powered by a 2.0-liter TFSI petrol engine fitted with a turbocharger that produces 231 hp (170 kW) and 370 Nm (273 lb-ft) of torque. The Audi S1 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.8 seconds, while the S1 Sportback needs 5.9 seconds, with a top speed limited at 250 km/h (155 mph) in both models.Read the entire article Audi not planning to offer the RS1
The Audi S1 is already a pocket rocket but after you will see what ABT did with it you are going to change your opinion. For those who don’t know, the small hot hatch is powered by a 2.0-liter TFSI engine that generates 231 hp (170 kW) and up to 370 Nm (272 lb-ft) of torque.
With these numbers, the S1 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.8 seconds, while the S1 Sportback needs 5.9 seconds. Both models have a top speed electronically limited at 250 km/h or 155 mph.
Thanks to ABT, the engine was boosted to an impressive 310 hp (228 kW) and 440 Nm (324 lb-ft) of torque. There are no details regarding the performances of the upgraded vehicle but we expect it to be much faster than the standard model.Read the entire article ABT upgrades the Audi S1 to an impressive 310 hp
