Chevrolet FNR-X Concept debuts with much fanfare at the 2017 Shanghai Auto Show

Imagine a sports car morphing into an SUV. Chevrolet initially revealed the FNR Concept at the previous Shanghai Auto Show in 2015. For this year, Chevy once again graces the Shanghai exhibit stands with the FNR-X, a more workable version of concept model it first brought to China two years ago. For one, the FNR-X could be the Lexus NX and Toyota C-HR’s next new rival. Dubbed as an all-purpose sports concept vehicle, the FNR actually stands for “Find New Roads”, the company’s tagline while the X simply means it’s a crossover.

Outside, the FNR crossover’s front end resembles a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. Like most Chevys, the rest of the profile appears to have a floating roof design with a high waistline to match. The rear section on the other hand bears similarities with a Toyota C-HR while the rest of the features remind us of the rear end of a Camaro.

Chevy however hasn't disclosed all the details especially when it comes to the engine specs. From what we know, the FNR-X will be featured as a plugin hybrid setup complete with the latest semi-autonomous all-terrain driver assistance technologies. Interestingly, the amazing new concept was designed and developed by GM together with Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center and SAIC Motor-- just like the first version it has showcased at the same event.

Acura unveils China-only long-wheelbase TLX-L Prototype at Auto Shanghai 2017

It is not a big secret that premium customers in China have a strong penchant for luxury cars with a spacious interior. In particular, premium customers in China purchase luxury cars not for them to drive it but to be chauffeured in it. And thus, they are more likely to choose vehicles with an expanded rear passenger cabin. Meeting this demand are luxury cars with long wheelbases.

This is the main reason why Acura is targeting these affluent Chinese customers, and to that effect, the Japanese premium carmaker is unveiling the new Acura TLX-L Prototype at the 17th International Automobile & Manufacturing Technology Exhibition in Shanghai, China (Auto Shanghai 2017). It looks pretty much the recently unveiled 2018 Acura TLX, and although the Acura TLX-L Prototype isn’t the final version, the production model should more or less appear like the one being displayed at the Auto Shanghai 2017.

Also on display at the Auto Shanghai 2017 is the new MDX and a special model of the China-exclusive Acura CDX sports utility vehicle. Likewise, the Japanese premium brand is displaying the Acura NSX at the event. When the final production version of the Acura TLX-L Prototype arrives, it would only be sold in China starting this year.

Chery Tiggo Sport Coupe Concept is out to impress video game lovers

Chinese automaker Chery did not leave a good impression last time they were in Australia - due to its cheap design. But this year, Chery showcases its new Tiggo Sport Coupe Concept to compete against Toyota’s C-HR and the Nissan Juke in the crossover range, at the most recent Auto Shanghai. This time, the automaker gave a more sophisticated and modern design for the coupe crossover.

The Tiggo Sport Coupe was designed with LED headlights that are connected by a long strip that stretches across the front end, incorporating the logo, between the hood and the grille. Just below it is a black mesh grille that goes hand in hand with the teardrop-shaped side air intakes, giving it a sporty look. Tow hooks can also be found on the lower part of the facia. This crossover also features rear-view cameras on both sides.

Mirroring the face of the crossover, the rear also has a horizontal strip of LEDs that stretches from one side to another, again connecting the taillights. Just like the front end, the rear comes with a pair of tow hooks on its bumper and the same teardrop shaped outlets at each corner. Suicide rear doors are also present for easier access to the passenger compartment.

2017 Citroen C5 Aircross is revealed with an eccentric new look

Two years after Citroën revealed the Aircross Concept at the 2015 Auto Shanghai in China, the production model will then be introduced at the same event this week. Love it or hate it, the C5 Aircross will be having the same eccentric exterior just like the C4 Cactus, except the Aircross will be having a much larger body measuring at 4.5 meters long, 1.84 meters wide, and 1.67 meters tall.

Citroën released a couple of videos online to put emphasis on the “Progressive Hydraulic Cushions” as this is one of the highlights of the SUV - in fact, the all-new suspension benefits from this.

Both damping quality and ride comfort have both been improved with this technology. The two hydraulic stops are for rebound and compression, creating a two-step suspension. Reports say that no less than 20 patents were registered during the development of the Progressive Hydraulic Cushions.

MG surprises us at the 2017 Auto Shanghai with its brand new concept: the E-Motion. This electric grand tourer is comparable to the likes of the hybrid models from Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, and Aston Martin. The automaker goes back to its sports car roots with this concept. It is shaped like a coupe but has an electric powertrain that packs some really impressive numbers.

The E-Motion has an eye-catching design. It has a grille similar to that of a Mercedes’ “diamond” grille, with a pair of sleek headlights that reminds us of those on current Mazda models - which are supposed to be inspired by the London Eye. As you look at the sides, you might get glimpses of a classic Aston Martin. Meanwhile, vertical taillights extend to the fenders, and a prominent spoiler lip are found on the rear end. Moreover, this concept features butterfly doors, and massive panoramic glass roof from the front all the way to the rear end, following its sloped roofline. It also comes with a huge diffuser and flush door handles. Overall, the car has a sporty appearance.

Inside, the cabin can accommodate four passengers. A fully digital instrument cluster is installed for the driver, with touch sensitive controls. Rotary knobs are built into the air vents for temperature control, like the Audi TT. Even the back passengers get their own touch-operated console.

Just this week at the 2017 Shanghai Motor Show, Toyota unveiled a new concept dubbed the Fengchao Fun. The sedan very much resembles the 2018 Camry. Though the company has not confirmed this, a lot of people are suggesting that this may be the next generation Camry for the Chinese market, or that this might be a preview of how the future Camry might look.

Toyota has not given much information on the Fengchao Fun’s technical specifications. But we do know that this concept is based on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform.

TNGA was first introduced in 2015, with a purpose to build cars that are better for the customers, the company, and the environment. To be more specific, fewer resources will be required to build cars with the standardized platform, therefore less manpower will be needed. TNGA-developed cars will have a more improved driving experience, while making use of fuel more efficiently, without sacrificing the design of the car.

Jeep has been releasing teasers about the Jeep Yuntu Concept months before the auto show in China. Just last week, they revealed a new sketch that we have not seen before. But this week, the Yuntu finally made its debut at the 2017 Auto Shanghai as the company’s newest and largest SUV,

Three-row SUVs have been a thing for a while now. But it doesn’t mean that those buyers actually need a third row - it’s just nice to have. However, a lot of SUVs now with a third row are barely useful, because there’s just too little space. But Jeep’s Yuntu has something interesting to offer.

As you enter its unique cabin, you will be welcomed by three rows of seats (that accommodate six passengers), which is uncommon for a Jeep, and is also what they are highlighting in this concept. Light brown wood trims can be found all around the center console, to the steering wheel, and the door panels, giving it a touch of elegance. Floating elements can be found inside which include the center console, and a long horizontal LCD screen that stretches from the gauge cluster to the passenger dash. More screens are found on the back of each headrest as individual entertainment systems for the second and third row passengers. The Yuntu has a total of eleven large touch sensitive displays.

When it comes to automakers, many are familiar with those coming from Europe. China appears to be slowly catching up with a host of new companies joining the auto manufacturing business. One of these is Zotye Auto which was established in 2005 and is based in Yongkang, Zhejiang.

Zotye caught the public’s eye when it unveiled the SR9, a clear, if not blatant, copy of the Macan from Porsche. Heads are turning once again as the Chinese automaker recently revealed that it will be presenting a new concept on this year’s Shanghai Auto Show. Styled as the Concept S, the company said it is inspired by the Lamborghini Urus. Those familiar with their work though knows what inspired really means.

Initial preview has not helped at all as the two sketches are appalling, to say the least. The images though show that both the rear section and the side profile are undoubtedly similar to the Urus. It even has the same squared wheel arches and the similar doors. Even the taillight and the bumper are the same. The only difference would be that the rear end has six tailpipes.

The upcoming 2017 Shanghai Auto Show will be the first venue for the newest member of BMW’s Chinese lineup – the new long-wheelbase 5 Series Li. This premium sedan will be exclusively available in the People’s Republic for the meantime.

Compared to the standard 5 Series (G30), the 5 Series Li (G30) is longer by 5.2 inches (13.3 centimeters) but slightly shorter compared to the 7 Series. It exudes a business-like aura while elegantly showing off the harmonious blend of its stretched proportions and contemporary looks. The increase in its length allows more space, thus, there’s additional leg room for the passengers at the back.

Aside from a more spacious leg room, the 5 Series Li also boasts optimized soundproofing as well as a variety of innovative features which include electrically adjustable comfort seats, Ambient Air package and Sky Lounge Panorama glass roof. These features further elevate the 5 Series Li to a whole new level of comfort for back seat passengers.

VLF Automotive is an American luxury sports car company, established in 2012 when it was originally VL Automotive (before the Fisker came in the picture). It is a joint partnership between former General Motors boss Bob Lutz, car designer Henrik Fisker of Fisker Karma, and entrepreneur Gilbert Villarreal. “VLF” came from the initials of each founder.

Over a year ago, the company took the cover off its Force 1 Coupe in Detroit, Michigan. And now, they are getting ready for the roadster version to debut at the Auto Shanghai 2017 in China next week. The roadster was spotted while in transit, so images of the car have surfaced online even before its official launch.

To keep the Force 1 Roadster light in weight, the body panels were built with carbon fiber. In fact, it looks just as sporty and masculine as the coupe. Instead, this was built with a soft top instead of a fixed carbon roof, unlike its counterpart. However, this model weighs a little more than the coupe that is at 1,538 kilograms (3,395 pounds), because of the increased roof complexity. Brembo brakes and Pirelli tires are included too.

Skoda announces its plans to begin sales of at least five electric vehicles by 2025. While doing its work, the Czech brand is also set to show off its Vision E Concept at the 2017 Shanghai Motor Show. For us, the Vision E’s debut this April will clearly represent the company’s green venture within the next several years.

Based on the initial sketches, Skoda’s concept EV bears the shape of an SUV along with an extremely remarkable exterior design. The five- seater coupe-like-SUV has this distinctly short front and rear overhangs, massive set of wheels with the absence of B-pillar just as in any other concepts.

Speaking with Automotive News in Europe, Skoda’s spokesperson explained the significant progression of their design—Skoda as we know started with the Vision S and now it has the Vision E concept.

While it may take five more years before we can fully experience autonomous driving, the technology of electric vehicles is certainly way ahead. For that same reason, Skoda gears up for the upcoming Auto Shanghai 2017 this April.

After announcing the company’s electrification project, Skoda will finally bring out the EV concept for its official premiere. As stated by its CEO, Berhard Maier, the concept will show what Skoda’s electrical mobility will invariably appear. He added that the company is thrilled to “bring something new” at the Chinese expo.

The Vision S was initially revealed by Christian Strube, Skoda’s head for research and development. Although the concept is still stationed at company’s design headquarters, Skoda is more than ready to show it off next month at the exhibit.

Chevrolet’s futuristic concept car -- the FNR concept – certainly turned heads at the 2015 Shanghai auto show with its technical capabilities. This vehicle, which has an acronym that stands for “Find New Roads”, is being targeted at the younger generation in China. The automaker has recently announced that it hopes to reach 1 million auto sales in China by 2020.

Global Chevy chief Alan Batey said that to achieve this goal, the company plans to launch 10 new models for this country “in the next few years,” which includes a plan to expand its SUV range. The “dragonfly” dual-swing doors of the FNR concept held the attention of onlookers at the Shanghai show. It is a pod-like, sci-fi inspired autonomous electric vehicle.

The concept was jointly developed by GM’s Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center and Chinese partner SAIC Motor. This concept is meant to explore the extent that autonomous technology has grown. The FNR is equipped with magnetic, in-wheel electric motors that may be charged wirelessly. Driverless operation is possible with the use of sensors and a radar placed on the roof to map the route.

The highly advanced, elegant, and practical Audi prologue allroad is set to make its world premiere at Auto Shanghai. This show car has five doors and its body has been raised, giving it a tougher stance. Digital interaction between the driver and the passengers is possible in this concept. One can’t help but be impressed with this plug-in hybrid as it delivers 734 hp but comes with very low consumption.

All of Audi’s allroad models do not disappoint. The same is true with the Audi prologue allroad. It can be recalled that fifteen years ago, Audi released the allroad Quattro, a new class of automobile that broke a lot of boundaries. This car features the dynamics and comfort of luxury cars but with optimum variability and a superb off-road ability.

What Audi shows off at the China show is a fresh version of its allroad theme, giving us a glimpse of the brand’s future in terms of design. The Audi prologue allroad measures 5.13 metres and features a long front-end and a roofline that quickly drops again. Its very flat D-pillars make its profile more athletic and showcase the allroad concept’s dynamics and elegance in a fresh manner.

The all-new Q50 from Infiniti was named as the "Best Chinese Premiere" at the Shanghai International Auto Show. The Q50 was picked out by the organizing committee of the auto show with the cooperation of sohu.com, which is one of the leading Internet news websites in China. The reasons cited for giving the award to the Q50 include its fresh design, sporty look, and sophisticated powertrains as the committee became convinced that the car will draw in a lot of consumer interest.

At a ceremony held earlier this week in Shanghai, Mr. He Yi, General Manager of sohu.com’s auto business unit and deputy editor-in-chief of sohu.com, gave the award to Daniel Kirchert, Managing Director of Infiniti China.

Kirchert said that the company is “very proud” that its new premium Q50 sedan was given this award. He also said this model will be launched in the Chinese market in the spring of 2014. Under Infiniti's global growth strategy, China is considered to be a key market.
