Despite the fact that all the carmakers are currently downsizing their engines, it appears that Bentley will adopt a new strategy as it wants to be different. According to a senior manager, Bentley wants to be the last manufacturer of 12-cylinder engines in the world.
And we don’t believe this target will be very hard to achieve, as all there are few companies that still use these big engines. Still, Mercedes-Benz has a similar goal and we might see a small battle there.
Bentley sources told Car and Driver that the company will switch to direct injection technology on its 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W12 engines. When BMW finally commences sales of the heavily anticipated 8-Series Coupe, it will offer the all-new flagship in two powerful engine variants – a petrol-powered biturbo 4.4 liter V8 unit and a diesel-fueled 3.0 liter biturbo inline six mill. Nonetheless, there are customers hoping that new BMW 8 Series would be offered with a V12 engine or a plug-in hybrid drive, but the German premium has no plans for those.
Carsten Groeber, vice-president of product management at BMW Group, was quoted by Australian magazine GoAuto at the 2018 Paris Motor Show as saying that a V12-powered 8 Series won't happen. The BMW 7 Series -- the M760Li xDrive in particular – is powered by a 6.0-liter V12 petrol engine that can provide 601 hp (448 kW) of output and 590 lb.-ft. (800 Nm) of peak torque. This allows the M760Li xDrive to dash from zero to 100km/h in just 3.7 seconds.
Groeber noted that the V8 engine and the in-line six unit already allows for a perfect weight distribution with the new 8 Series. Since the V12 engine is a very heavy mill, it would destroy this weight distribution, particularly making the front too heavy. For many years, Lamborghini has always relied on the use of large and powerful engines including the V10 and the V12. In fact, the company’s very first engine in the 350 GTV was a V12, which is probably also why they are not ready to give these up. Just last week, the automaker confirmed that they will be sticking with their original engines.
Maurizio Reggiani, development boss of Lamborghini, further explained to Autocar that the naturally aspirated V10 and V12 engines on models like the Huracan and Aventador will remain for quite some time, and they mean for as long as possible. So don’t expect to see these models to have newer and smaller engines anytime soon, or as long as Reggiani is the development boss. He then says that it provides “a sense of emotion in a super-sports car”.

The company then puts these elements in a scientific way by making them physical things so that the new cars can be compared to an old one, or perhaps, its competitors. In 2015, Aston Martin and Williams Advanced Engineering collaborated to come up with their brainchild, the RapidE Concept. A few months later, higher ups at Aston Martin's headquarters in Gaydon signed a Memorandum of Understanding with LeEco to lead the way in producing the sedan's electric version that will hopefully be made available to the public in 2018.
Recently, Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer confirmed to the public that by 2018 the gas powered Rapide will be getting the axe, and instead, an electric version RapidE concept will take its place. Since its debut, the dashing sedan has only been made available with a V-12 engine but starting in the year 2018, it will be exclusively offered with an all-electric variant.
Even though the specific details of car's technical specs are still not in the open, the new four door all-electric Aston Martin sedan will have an increase of power - from 552 horsepower produced by the 6.0-liter gasoline engine to a whopping 800 horsepower generated by the RapidE concept's electric engine. Also, take note that the outgoing gasoline-powered sedan is capable of producing 465 lb.-ft. (630 Nm) of torque, which means that with the power that the new electric version is expected to produce, its torque may be of the same magnitude. Moreover, the RapidE concept is competent enough to reach a range of almost 200 miles (320 kilometers) with enough battery on tap. The 1930s is a period in automobile history wherein elegance and extravagance were the norm. With this in mind, Eadon Green unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show its homage to this classic year with the Black Cuillin Vision Model.
Indeed, the design is more than apt for the period especially with how the front clip has a rounded form and has those arching fenders. It even has the long hood much like what the cars of that period had. Looking on the inside, there are a number of details in leather, wood trim, and chrome. While Eadon Green did not release any official information on the features, the images and the unit on display show that there are buttons for the menus and modes and there is even a navigation function. This means that the features may be similar to what other brands release as limited-production luxury versions.
There is also no word yet on the performance. All we know really is that it will be fitted with a V12 engine. This is only known though because images show a V12 carrying the Eadon Green badge. However since the engine is shown to be placed along the length of the hood, there is the possibility that the Black Cuillin could have a rear-wheel drive. Eadon Green though did reveal that the powertrain and chassis would have a more contemporary feel to it which means the transmission could be an automatic type and it will likely include a paddle-shift. Aston Martin and Red Bull’s AM-RB 001 hypercar project is moving along quickly. This time, the project partners have already commissioned a number of technical partners that would help in the development and creation of a new mobile unit that is bound to challenge the current hypercar Trinity.
Nearly a year since Aston Martin, Red Bull and AF Racing announced the project, the partners had the chance to shop for more key technical members that could provide the expertise to achieve utmost success. According to Aston Martin and Red Bull, these key technical partners – Cosworth, Ricardo, Rimac, Multimatic, Alcon, Surface Transforms, Bosch and Wipac – were chosen because of their unrivalled expertise as well as their willingness to further push performance boundaries. These companies will work alongside Adrian Newey and David King, Red Bull Racing’s Chief Technical Officer and Aston Martin’s VP and Chief Special Operations Officer, respectively.
Overseeing the engine for the new AM-RB 001 is renowned engine-maker Cosworth. Cosworth is an engineering company that specializes in building high-performance engines used in high-speed races. In fact, Cosworth boasts of 176 wins as the engine supplier in Formula One, just behind Ferrari. The Lamborghini Aventador supercar remains as strong and as appealing as when it was introduced in 2011. Already nearing six years old, the V12-powered Lamborghini Aventador managed to remain fresh, especially when the super sports car maker just recently revealed the Lamborghini Aventador S. In fact, the replacement model for the Aventador is not bound to appear in the next five to six years.
One of the central pieces of the Lamborghini Aventador has been its naturally aspirated V12 engine. Known for monstrous power outputs and torques, V12 engines have been the powerplants of choice for Lamborghini’s flagships. And when Lamborghini finally replaces the Aventador, the new super sports car will still be powered by a V12 engine, chief executive Stefano Domenicali was quoted by Car Advice as saying.
In a regular Aventador (Aventador LP 700–4), this 235-kg 6.5-liter 60-degree V12 engine delivers 700 PS (510 kW or 690 bhp) of max output and 508 lb.-ft. (689 Nm) of peak torque. In the Lamborghini Aventador Superveloce (SV) unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, the 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine was seen to develop 750 hp (552 kW) at 8,400 rpm and 690 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm. The V12 engine in the Lamborghini Aventador Miura Homage, meanwhile, generates 700 hp (515 kW) of max output and 507 lb.-ft. (690 Nm). Porsche Engineering has been selected to develop engines for Russia’s ‘Motorcade’ project or Project Cortege, which will create a Russian-built and engineered limousine for Vladimir Putin and other top officials. Between $150 million and $400 million from the Russian government will be used to develop this project and according to several sources, it will include other vehicles such as a van and an SUV.
According to the Russian website wroom.ru, we found out that the limousine will use a 6.0- to 6.6-liter V12 engine that will produce around 800 hp. The final design of the limousine is still not finished and according to the Russian media prototypes of the new limo will begin testing later this year, while the final production version will arrive in 2016.
Regarding the V12 engine developed by Porsche, we believe that the 6.0-liter W12 engine found on the Audi A8 L W12 would be a better solution for Putin’s limo. We already knew that the all-new 2015 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG Coupe will make its debut this summer, so it is not a surprise that the German manufacturer unveiled the new vehicle today. As expected, the new S65 AMG Coupe is powered by the same engine found on the S65 AMG Sedan, which means it uses a 6.0-liter V12 engine that generates 630 hp (463 kW) and 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft) of torque.
As a result, the S65 AMG Coupe sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.1 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited at 250 km/h or 155 mph. Fuel consumption is 11.9 litres per 100 km as per NEDC combined, while CO2 emissions are 279 g/km.
The engine is mated to the AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic that delivers the power to the rear wheels and offers three driving modes - Controlled Efficiency (C), Sport (S) and Manual (M) – by pushing a button on the centre console. It appears that Rolls-Royce will not follow Bentley and invest in a British assembly line to build its engines as the British company will still use German-built V12s. According to Frank Ludwig a.k.a. production head at Rolls-Royce’s Goodwood plant, the engines need a lot of expertise and at the moment Germany remains the best place to source the powerplants.
In our opinion, the main reason would be that Rolls-Royce is still owned by the BMW Group and the Bavarian company needs to make sure that the quality of the vehicles remains the same.

Now, the German manufacturer is preparing something new, the Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG Coupe. According to several reports from the German media, it appears that the flagship coupe will make its debut this summer, in July.
Just like the S65 AMG Sedan, we expect the new S65 AMG Coupe to use the same 6.0-liter V12 engine that generates 630 hp (463 kW) and a maximum torque of 1,000 Nm. For those who don’t know, the S65 AMG hits 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.3 seconds and has a top speed electronically limited at 250 km/h (155 mph).
We expect the coupe to be a little quicker than the sedan and hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds, while top speed will be the same. After few leaked photos, the 2015 Mercedes-Benz S600 was officially unveiled at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show. Powered by a 6.0-liter V12 biturbo engine that generates 530 hp (390 kW), the new S600 is with 13 hp more powerful that its predecessor. Moreover, the displacement of the engine has increased from 5513 to 5980 cc.
The V12 engine delivers 830 Nm of torque from 1900 rpm. Although it has a big engine, the S600 is offered as standard with the ECO start/stop fuel consumption and needs 11.1 litres to travel 100 km, 21 percent lower than that of its predecessor (14.1 l/100 km).

We already know that at the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Mercedes-Benz will unveil the GLA 45 AMG but also the new S600. The GLA45 AMG was officially unveiled yesterday and today, the first images with the 2015 Mercedes-Benz S600 emerged on the web.
Although we only have a photo showing the rear of the car we can see the distinctive four-tailpipe exhaust system and the V12 lettering. Inside, everything is where it should be and we can’t say anything as we consider the interior of the S-Class one of the best in the world.
Under the hood, there is a 6.0-liter V12 engine rated at 530 hp (390 kW) and 830 Nm of torque. Despite these numbers, fuel consumption has been reduced by 2.4 litres per 100 kilometres (NEDC, combined), which means the S65 AMG needs only 11.9 litres per 100 km, making it the world's most fuel-efficient V12 high-performance saloon in terms of power and torque. The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG was spotted undisguised at a commercial shoot in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Minor differences were seen in comparison to the S63 AMG. Significant modifications include more chrome on the front grille, shiny mesh on the front bumper, various multi-spoke alloys together with the bold "V12 Biturbo" lettering.
It will use a 6.0-liter engine that delivers 630 HP (463 kW) and 737 lb-ft (1,000 Nm) of torque. The 2014 S65 AMG is mated to a 7-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT gearbox, enabling it to move from 0 to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4 seconds. It’s expected to have a fuel efficiency rating of 20 mpg US (24.3 mpg UK or 11.6 liters / 100 km). Deliveries will start in March after its introduction at the L.A. Auto Show this November.

Earlier this month we presented you the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG but rumors regarding the more powerful S65 AMG are already starting to show up. As expected, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG will not receive the new twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 found on the S63 because it will stick with the 6.0-liter V12 twin-turbo engine.
If the current S65 AMG delivers 621 hp, the 2014MY S65 AMG will receive a slight bump in output, probably around 630 hp and around 1,000 Nm of torque (737 lb-ft) as some sources mentioned. Still, the curb weight of the 2014 S65 AMG will be 200 pounds less than its predecessor.
We expect the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG to zoom from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than four seconds. The recently revived Belgian carmaker Minerva announced the first details of its upcoming supercar, the J.M. Brabazon. For those who don’t know, the car is named after a British racing driver and features a carbon Kevlar body, a carbon fiber monocoque chassis and an impressive design.
As you can see from the photos, the J.M. Brabazon comes with LED headlights, an interesting front and with a front bumper that features big air inlets, superb side design featuring a new set of air inlets and a stylish rear end which comes with a rear spoiler, air diffuser and dual exhaust system.
Under the hood there is a twin-turbo V12 engine but the supercar also comes with two electric motors that power the front wheels. Still, Minerva did not release any specs of the J.M. Brabazon supercar, but we do know that it features a sequential transmission, a limited slip differential, regenerative brakes and five different driving modes (economy, normal, sport, race, safe). Mercedes-AMG is famous for using powerful engines but it’s also now set to fit hybrid powertrains on its vehicles in keeping with the trend to get more from less. This doesn’t signal in any way that it has decided to move away from big engines. In fact, it has recently presented the all-new 2014 CLA45 AMG at the 2013 New York Auto Show, with an output of 355hp from its 2.0-liter four-cylinder.
Mercedes-AMG Chairman Ola Källenius recently had a talk with Edmunds about the auto industry's quickly evolving push toward environmental solutions. Källenius said that hybrid will be in the future of even its sports cars. He said that there’s still plenty of room for improvement for its traditional AMG engines.
It expects to achieve a further 20% decline in fuel consumption by 2017 (its 50th anniversary). Källenius also said that the company will build the hybrid as soon as the market is ready for it. He explained that it’s easy to use Mercedes-Benz technology in its cars but that it’s struggling to reduce the hybrid’s battery weight. For the 2013 Geneva Auto Show, Brabus will be presenting the 800 Roadster based on the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG. Powering the standard variant is an AMG V12 6.0-liter bi-turbo engine with an output of 630 HP (463 kW) and 737 lb-ft (1,000 Nm) of torque. Its engine has been tweaked to have an output of 800 HP (588 kW) and 1,047 lb-ft (1,420 Nm) of torque that will be limited to 811 lb-ft (1,100 Nm).
The stock model can make the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in 4 seconds but the modified variant can do so in 3.7 seconds and reach an electronically-limited top speed of 217 mph (350 km/h). Meanwhile, the regular model has a limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). Brabus also gives this vehicle an aerodynamic body kit that was developed in the wind tunnel.
All of its parts are made of carbon fiber and it can also come with a matte or a glossy finish in the body's color.
