Bentley hopes to overturn its sales decline in China in 2013 as it launches a new variant of its Flying Spur saloon in April. "We're sure that we're able to, let's say, make an improvement over last year," Ricky Tay, Bentley China's managing director, told Bloomberg in an interview.

The Flying Spur V-8, carrying the lowest starting price among Bentley's four-door sedans, "will open up a new avenue to the luxury brand," Tay said. Bentley posted a 3-pervent drop in deliveries in China in 2013, after surging 23 percent in 2011 and almost doubling in 2011. Tay attributed the decline to model changeovers.

Bentley unveiled the Flying Spur at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month. The carmaker is ontending to open three to four dealerships in China this year, in addition to the 36 it currently has.

Sources say that Bentley’s 200mph Flying Spur saloon will get a sporty update in late 2013. The new Spur, which rivals the all-new Mercedes-Benz S-class, will get sheetmetal that’s more attractively shaped. It will also get major performance improvements. From the information provided by insiders, an artist impression was created.

The new Spur will use a re-engineered platform and will have its looks smartly revised. Its proportions will be sportier and it will have surfaces that appear more fluid. These features take inspiration from the new Continental GT and the Mulsanne flagship. The element taken from the GT is a subtler version of the two-door’s muscular rear haunch while from the Mulsanne, it gets the elegant ‘catwalk’, a flowing belt line that becomes wider over the rear haunch to imply power and performance stemming from the rear axle.

One source said that it looks much sportier and appears to be “much more ‘Coke bottle’ than before. The Spur will boast a look that’s more upmarket and sportier due to the new dimensions on a wheelbase tracks and fixed-design ‘hard’ points that were carried over. Its highlights include a more raked rear screen, taller boot line and narrower rear glasshouse.

Using cameras to replace the rear and side mirrors isn't something new. However, this technology is usually found on concept vehicles and some exotic cars. But at Lexus, this technology will be installed on one of its premium sedans starting October this year.

Lexus is introducing the world' first Digital Outer Mirrors, which will initially be fitted on the new 2019 Lexus ES. Digital Outer Mirrors make use of small exterior cameras on the front doors. They are mounted on stalks that swell on the place where conventional side mirrors are usually found.

The cameras send images onto displays – each monitor measuring five inches diagonally– inside the cabin, as positioned at the base of the front pillars. Instead of looking through the windows onto the side mirrors, a driver just have to view the images on the displays. This means that the driver’s view of the sides and the rear of the cars aren’t compromised when the windows are dirty or hazy.

Lynk & Co, a carmaker founded just two years ago, is introducing its third production model: the Lynk & Co 03 sedan. This new model – derived from a concept first unveiled in April 2017 at the Auto Shanghai – marks the Chinese brand’s very first sedan.

When the Chinese carmaker unveiled the Lynk & Co 03 Concept at the 2017 Auto Shanghai, it was easily unmistakable that this sedan concept featured the design cues – both on the front and on the rear ends – of the Lynk & Co 01 and 02 sports utility vehicle. It looked like the 01 and the 02 but in a more aggressive and sportier package.

After more than a year, Lynk & Co – a Chinese-Swedish auto brand owned by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group that also owns Volvo -- is introducing the 03 sedan, which is essentially the production version of the 03 Concept shown in Shanghai in 2017. On a closer look, it seems that the Chinese carmaker didn’t bother to change or revise the design of the show car, especially since both the 03 production version and the 03 Concept basically look the same.

Mercedes-AMG only came out with the E43 lineup a few years ago, and already, the said model is ready to retire the badge so they could give way for the arrival of the electrified E53 family. It was first revealed at the beginning of the year during the Detroit Auto Show and came in two body styles, a coupe and a cabriolet. These were then followed by the reveal of the sedan and wagon flavours last month.

And according to the automaker, towards the end of the year, Mercedes will be selling the 2019 model year E53 Sedan in the United States, as a replacement of the E43 Sedan, and it will come along with the more upscale two-door E53 models. To make it clear, the name change is just a minor thing.

The real upgrade is in its performance, as it now packs more power. But instead, the new inline six biturbo 3.0 liter engine has an output of 429 horsepower and 384 pound feet of torque. That’s a noticeable difference compared to the old model that offered the output of 396 horsepower and 384 pound feet that came from the former V6 engine.

A few days back, we discussed that Ford’s plan involves retiring most of its compact cars and sedans and replacing them with SUVs. However, there would be two small models that will remain in the lineup -- the Mustang and the Focus Active, at least for the United States. So what is the automaker’s reason for doing so? Well, the answer is as simple as this - money.

To support that statement, Jim Hackett, Ford’s CEO said in his interview with Automotive News that they have decided to just focus on the healthier part of the business, referring to trucks and crossovers. In the first quarter of 2018 alone, the company’s sales of $3 billion all came from this segment. Soon, 90 percent of all sales will come from this.

The CEO added that they will soon deal with the parts of the company that destroy value. He, of course, is speaking of sedans and hatchbacks. In fact, by 2022, they hope to uncover $25.5 billion in savings with the switch to SUVs and trucks. This is double the amount identified back in October ($14 million).
