2018 LA Auto Show: BMW X7 flagship SUV makes its debut in North America

More than a month ago since introducing the BMW X7 to the global public, the German premium carmaker has unveiled its flagship SUV to the North American audience at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show. This is quite ironic since the BMW X7 is built at the carmaker’s Spartanburg manufacturing site in South Carolina.

There is quite no need to tell all the details about the new BMW X7. Nonetheless, the X7 that will soon arrive in the United States will be available in two guises, powered only by petrol engines. As what BMW has revealed, the X7 SUV will be offered either as the X7 xDrive40i or the X7 xDrive50i. The BMW X7 xDrive40i has a core in the persona of a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six engine. This mill is tuned to deliver 335 hp (250 kW) of max output as well as 330 lb.-ft. (447 Nm). This power is enough for the xDrive40i to accelerate from zero to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 5.8 seconds.

On the other hand, BMW is offering a more powerful version of the X7 SUV, which would be an ideal fit for customers who wanted to squeeze more performance from the flagship. The BMW X7 xDrive50i will be powered by a newly developed twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine that can deliver 456 hp (340 kW) of max motive power as well as 479 lb.-ft. (649 Nm) of peak torque. This engine can send the X7 xDrive50i sprinting from nil to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 5.2 seconds, or around 0.6 seconds quicker than the X7 xDrive40i.

BMW skips Paris and instead will debut X7 at Los Angeles Auto Show

BMW has been pretty busy lately with the launch of several models including the M5, i8 Roadster and X2 as well as the facelifted 2 Series Active Tourer. Aside from those, they will also be joined by other models later this year such as the 8 Series, Z4, X4, and the X7 flagship, which is scheduled to make its debut at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show later this year.

The surprising thing is that we initially thought that the Bavarian automaker would unveil the CLAR-based SUV a little earlier at the Paris Auto Show. Though nothing has been confirmed yet, several reports indicate that the automaker has decided to bring it to the City of Angels instead.

Just so you know, the automaker is actually planning to sell the first-ever X7 to the U.S. and Chinese markets, although they also plan to offer this model in some parts of Europe as well.

BMW redefines luxurious open-top driving with new i8 Roadster plug-in hybrid

Eco-conscious BMW fans and enthusiasts could now experience a luxurious and comfortable ride with the freedom of open air, without inflicting harm to the environment. Here comes the new 2019 BMW i8 Roadster, as being unveiled by the German premium carmaker at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show.

Tagged by BMW as the sports car of the future, the new i8 is available in two body variants – the new BMW i8 Roadster and new BMW i8 Coupe. While the BMW i8 Roadster and new BMW i8 Coupe plug-in hybrid models -- employing the much-enhanced BMW eDrive technology – are essentially twins, BMW opted to globally unveil only the open-top version at the 2017 LA Auto Show.

The new BMW i8 Roadster is underpinned by the distinct LifeDrive vehicle architecture and heavily influenced by the BMW i form language. It features a number of model-specific body strengthening elements. It comes with gullwing doors employing the signature lightweight construction of BMW i models. Even its windscreen frame is made from carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP). Meanwhile the all-electric soft-top cover could be opened or closed with just a press of a button in only 15 seconds up to speeds of 50 km/h.

The 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show becomes the first event ever to showcase three new vehicles from BMW in North America. On November 18, attendees to the said event will have an exclusive first peek at the new eDrive BMW 330e, BMW M4 GTS, BMW X1 and the BMW 7 Series.

They will be joined by the BMW 7 Series (G11/G12), the eDrive BMW X5 xDrive40e, the new BMW 3 Series, the high-performance eDrive BMW i8, and the all-electric BMW i3.

The BMW 330e is a hybrid machine that makes use of both an electric motor and a BMW TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder engine to power the car’s propulsion. The use of these two components results to a power rating of 248 bHP, which also produces a 310 lb-ft. of torque.

BMW unveiled ahead of the 2014 LA Auto Show the all-new 2015 BMW X5 M and X6 M super CUVs. According to the manufacturer, the 2015 BMW X5 M will start at $99,650, while the X6 M will cost $103,050, including the $950 destination charge.

At the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show, German premium carmaker BMW will bring the new 4-Series Hybrid and the model was officially confirmed in a recent press release. Although there are no details we expect the 4-Series Hybrid to use the same powertrain found on the ActiveHybrid 3.

This means that we will see the 3.0-liter six-cylinder petrol engine rated at 306 hp (225 kW) of output and mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with integrated electric motor, which delivers 54 hp (40 kW) of motive power. The total output delivered by the system should be at around 340 hp or 250 kW.

The new BMW 4-Series Hybrid is expected to use less than 6 liters of fuel per 100 km (39.8 mpg US). More details to be revealed!
For those who don't know, BMW will also bring at the 2013 LA Auto Show the 4-Series Cabriolet. In terms of proportions, the new BMW 4-Series Coupe is dramatically different from the outgoing BMW 3-Series Coupe. Compared to the BMW 3-Series Coupe, the BMW 4-Series Coupe is around 26 mm longer (at 4,638 mm), with a wheelbase that is longer by 50 mm (at 2,810 mm) and a roofline that is 16 mm lower (at 1,362 mm). The upcoming L.A. Auto Show will mark the first time that BMW will display two of its latest projects in the US -- the 2011 X3 and the next-generation 6 Series concept. The premium small SUV segment was started by the outgoing X3 and it needed to be updated. However, the 2011 version is prepared for the spotlight.

On the other hand, the Concept 6 Coupe isn’t much different from the previous car as it is inspired by BMW's 70 years spent building sporty and elegant coupes. It’s quite easy to mistake the 2011 X3 for an X5 as they have a very close resemblance. However, the more perceptive onlooker will notice the extra curves in character lines.

It’s also apparent that more attention was given to the windows’ shape. It can’t be denied that the X3 remains to be distinctly BMW but when compared to the older model, it has more presence. BMW’s designers put as much attention on the interior as its exterior.

The Bmw Concept 7-Series ActiveHybrid is a clever interdependence of Bmw's new dual-turbo V8 engine and electric drive as a gentle hybrid concept. A compact electric motor, incorporated into the housing of the transmission, substitutes the typical alternator and also the starter. Power is generated by means of Brake Energy Regeneration to run all electrics on-board the car.

The merger of internal combustion engine and electric motor bring the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8's already powerful 400 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque and supplies an additional 20 horsepower and up to 155 lb-ft of torque as required. The drivetrain technology highlighted in the concept car permits improved driving dynamics along with a lowering of fuel consumption and emissions by 15 percent in the EU test cycle in contrast to the same car running solely on a combustion engine alone.

Simultaneously, the use of Bmw ActiveHybrid technology does not necessitate any compromises in driving behavior and attributes of the Bmw 7-Series. Energy is kept in a compact lithium-ion battery located in the luggage section.

It has been three and a half years since BMW unveiled the sixth generation of the BMW 7 Series. Thus, it is really about to give the 7 Series a major revision for the 2020 model year. In fact, it is only a matter of time when the sixth-gen 7 Series will be launch into the market as BMW has finally took off the veil of its revised full-size sedan.

Compared to its immediate predecessor, the 2020 BMW 7 Series seems like an all-new model in terms of looks. The most apparent exterior revision made to the new 7 Series is its significantly larger BMW kidney grille. In fact its single-piece frame has grown by around 40 percent. In the United States, the bars of the Active Kidney Grille are finished in aluminum satin.

Furthermore, the front end of the new 2020 BMW 7 Series is now two inches taller at its highest point. These revisions make the new 7 Series look more visually powerful on the road.

According to the German premium carmaker, the production version of the Audi e-tron GT concept is set to arrive in around two years. This means that could expect the third member of the e-tron family by late 2020, with initial deliveries set in early 2021. It follows the Audi e-tron SUV as well as the Audi e‑tron Sportback scheduled for 2019.

As designed, the Audi e-tron GT concept features the proportions of a classic Gran Turismo – flat and wide with a long wheelbase – as reflected on its dimensions of 4.96 meters (16.3 ft.) in length, 1.96 meters (6.4 ft.) in width and 1.38 meters (4.5 ft.) in height. Its overall shape is marked by a gently sloping roofline extending into the rear, a cabin tapering strongly toward the rear, well-sculpted wheel arches and shoulders as well as a flat floor that is unusual for an EV. The e-tron GT concept is wrapped in a new exterior color kinetic dust, which is a warm, dark color similar to titanium.

German sports car maker Porsche is making its presence the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show felt further by unveiling to the global public its new Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport. If you’re familiar with the street-legal yet track-focused outgoing 991-generation of the 911 GT2 RS, then the 911 GT2 RS Clubsport is basically its racing version.

As racing version, the Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport can only be driven on the tracks, which means that this race car is the carmaker’s newest attempt to lure in racing enthusiasts. The 911 GT2 RS Clubsport can be raced at clubsport-style events, including those organized by Porsche Club of America, as well as at a possible future racing series organized by SRO.

The Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport shouldn’t be mistaken for the no-cost optional Club Sport package offered for the 911 GT2 RS in Europe, but not in the United States. There are a number of differences, but we would focus only on the Clubsport model, not the package.
