Fuel-efficient Audi Q3 crossover promises to keep the lead over BMW X1

Expect a more fuel-efficient Audi Q3 next year as the carmaker is making true plans to endow the revised crossover with more efficient powertrains. Audi did not only enhance the output of its gasoline-powered TFSI engines, but also installed a fuel-saving cylinder deactivation technology called “displacement on demand” system.

This system shuts down two cylinders when not needed, making the powertrain around 7 percent more efficient. The upgrade is part of the Q3’s mid-cycle refresh, which entails a revised design and more standard features. Audi will roll out the Q3 in Europe in February 2015 and later in the United States.

The Q3 currently stands atop Europe’s premium crossover segment, followed by BMW X1. Audi sold 5-percent more Q3s in the first half of 2015 to 40,730 units, helping the overall European premium crossover segment to post a 9-percent jump in sales in the period to 232,075 units, according to JATO Dynamics.

2018 Audi Q3 will receive Competition Package, Sport trim in the United States

The Audi Q3, also known as the smallest crossover option in the United States, is getting a new upgrade, with an overall sportier look. This is because the automaker will introduce a new Sport trim to the lineup next year. Though it is a “Sport” trim, do not expect it to perform better because the sporty upgrades are only limited to the exterior. Having said that, it focuses more on convenience features and styling.

For those who are interested, the 2018 Audi Q3 Sport Premium can be had for $34,875 (including $975 destination fee). That makes it $1,000 more expensive than the standard Q3. You are probably wondering what upgrades you will get with the additional $1000. Well, this trim includes new exterior treatments like 19-inch 10-spoke wheels and brushed matte aluminum inlays. This goes with a power tailgate, mirrors that automatically dim, and proximity key with the $1,350 Convenience Package equipped.

The higher trim, which is the Sport Premium Plus, on the other hand, costs a little more at $36,775 for 2018. If you will include the optional technology package, that will cost you an extra $1,200. This trim features a Bose audio system and other fancy things. And for those who would like to go for the sporty luxury option, there is the range-topping S Line Competition Package that comes loaded with features as well as blacked out design touches. But naturally, this costs a little more too.

2016 Audi Q3 Connected Mobility Concept Comes with Electric Longboard

During the 2016 Beijing Motor Show, Audi finally launched its latest Connected Mobility Concept based on the Q3, which comes with smartphone integration. But guess what, it also gets an electric longboard in the rear bumper. The longboard primarily serves as an alternative mode of transportation, making mobility more creative and convenient.

The Q3 Connected Mobility Concept basically looks like the Q3 crossover— both exterior and interior. No modifications have been employed aside from the enhanced connectivity and mobility. Through the Audi MMI connect app, the Q3-compact-crossover-inspired concept can be synced to a smartphone calendar, enabling the vehicle to know where the driver is going. In addition, it can also be linked to the vehicle’s infotainment system. Moreover, the concept can determine the fastest routes. When the fastest route no longer needs the vehicle, the driver can easily hop on the longboard and scoot the rest of the way after the app has found a perfect parking spot for the Audi.

The 3.44-feet electric longboard can run up to 7.40 miles and accelerate up to 18 mph on a single charge-up. Moreover, the scooter has a spot for the smartphone on the handlebars to make it more convenient for the user to access the Audi MMI connect app. When not in use, the electric long board can be placed back at its rear bumper storage tray, where it automatically recharges.

Chinese automaker Qoros can’t use the letter "Q" as part of the name of a new sedan intended for Europe and China after Audi was granted a temporary court injunction, according to a German newspaper. For the second half, Qoros aims to launch a compact sedan named the GQ3 in China. It’s set to launch in Europe towards the end of 2013.

Die Welt reported that Audi makes use of the letter "Q" for its SUVs and crossovers and had opposed the letter that shows up in the GQ3 name. According to the paper, Audi had been granted a court injunction on January 14 against Qoros in Hamburg's civil court. The injunction was confirmed by a court spokesman. Qoros is set to debut the GQ3 in March at the Geneva auto show. The compact will be displayed together with concepts that preview a crossover hatchback and a station wagon, which all use the same underpinnings.

Qoros is a partnership between Chery, a China-based automaker, and Israel Corporation, an investment firm.
Qoros said that Audi’s complaint had been a shock since the company had filed the GQ3 trademark at the European Trademark office and had given Audi a formal notification. When interviewed by Automotive News Europe, a Qoros spokesman said that GQ3 was an initial name for the sedan and has yet to be finalized, saying that Qoros will fight the court injunction "to keep its options open."

Audi has unveiled a new ‘entry level’ version of the popular Q3 compact sports utility vehicle, the Audi Q3 2.0 TDI quattro 140PS. The Audi Q3 2.0 TDI quattro, Audi’s 250th model equipped with an all-weather traction aid, can now be ordered at just £26,510 OTR and is expected to account for up to 40 percent of total Q3 sales.

The new Q3 model is powered by a 2.0-litre direct injection diesel engine that provides 140PS of power and 320Nm of torque, which is transmitted via a six-speed manual gearbox to the quattro system. Thanks to the engine start-stop and recuperation technology, the new model’s engine can return up to 49.6mpg combined and emit just 149g CO2 per kilometre travelled.

The highly efficient engine allows the new Q3 model to accelerate from zero to 62mph in 9.9 seconds and to reach a 122mph top speed. Still available for the Audi Q3 2.0 TDI Quattro are the SE and S line specification levels. The SE specification level features 17-inch alloy wheels, rear parking sensors, light and rain sensors and dual-zone climate control. BMW’s second-generation X1 will be getting a significant change in its engineering in 2015. Instead of the existing car’s rear-wheel-drive platform, the upcoming car will be built on a new front-drive architecture that will be used on upcoming Minis as well as on a new 1-series GT, which will debut this September at the Paris motor show.

Sources said that this move to change platforms has been decided in order to provide added packaging benefits to the next-generation BMW X1 and have reduced production costs. They suggest that the new small soft-roader will accommodate more compared to its predecessor, due to a new transverse mounting of its engine that saves space.

Offering economies of scale is the fact that the new X1 shares major elements, such as several of its driveline combinations, with the second-generation Mini Countryman. The company is developing the new front-wheel-drive platform, which is also referred to as the UKL or ‘Unter Klasse’ (German for ‘entry level’) structure, to underpin an entire range of new BMW Group cars, like the next generation of Mini models and a few BMWs.

The Audi Q3 Red Track was designed for winter-sport enthusiasts and features two pairs of Audi skis made from carbon fiber-reinforced polymer, found on the roof. Heatable seat cushions are integrated into the reversible load-area mat. The first visual impact with the car shows an Energy Red paint finish with golden pearl-effect particles. Furthermore, we see add-on body elements finished in matt grey quartz paint.
