BMW X4 M rendered, gets closer to the ground and is more aggressive

The 2019 BMW X4 (G02) boasts an updated exterior and tech-heavy cabin. Physically, the SUV has grown in size and is now three inches longer than its predecessor, and this means more legroom for rear passengers as well. This X4 is scheduled to be out in dealerships sometime in July, but rendering artists have already gone to work on imagining an M version of this.

The rendering artist who created the X4 M is none other than X-Tomi Design. At first glance, you will notice that the more hardcore variant gets a lot of obvious cues from the base model - including the dual kidney grille and the sloped roofline. But it also gets some added elements that make it extra unique.

Instead of the original chrome grille inserts, the BMW X4 M’s had been blacked out. The lower air vent on the grille is now larger and more defined. Each corner is accented by two smaller vents, each one embedded with LED running lights. Its entire body has been lowered to the ground, while the roof has a carbon fiber treatment finished in black - overall, making it look more aggressive.

2019 BMW X4 (G02) gets plenty of tech upgrades, will start selling in July

The first time you see the 2019 BMW X4 (G02), you wouldn’t notice that much of a difference compared to the outgoing model when it comes to the exterior. However, the German automaker actually gave it the latest technology so it can still be among the best models in its highly competitive segment. This model will go on sale in the United States in July 2018.

When looking at it from the outside, the X4 now gets a larger grille. Though its body does not look like it has grown perceptibly in size, the model’s measurements actually grew by 3 inches (76.2 millimeters) in length, 2.1 inches (53.3 mm) in wheelbase, and 1.4 inches (35.6 mm) wide. The ride height then lowers by 0.1 inch (2.54 mm). There’s good news for passengers as the legroom has been expanded by an additional inch (25.4 mm). Despite it being larger, aerodynamic drag has decreased to 10 percent.

The 2019 model year has been equipped with plenty of standard equipment including LED headlights. Inside, there’s a 10.25 inch infotainment display on top of the center stack that features navigation. There are safety assist systems like front collision warning, collision mitigation and braking, plus pedestrian detection. Extra features include a panoramic moonroof and three zone climate control.

Here is a rendering of the 2019 BMW X4 (G02) production version

Now that we have seen the 2018 BMW X3 (G01) and its new styling elements, it should not be such a challenge to try and imagine how the second generation X4 would look. Some argue that it might be too early for a next-generation X4 considering that it has only been in the market for three years. Also, the current generation has not even been given a facelift or any upgrades yet.

But when the new X3 came out, the spotlight was on it as it shares design cues with the BMW X4; thus it was described as the Coupe version of the latter. The new version will probably follow the same path as the old one, with the same underpinnings, from the engines to the suspension and chassis setup.

X-Tomi Design came out with a version of what they think the BMW X4 would look like, and the rendering turned out looking pretty accurate. Though we can only see 3/4 of the car, minus the rear. Clearly, it was designed with cues from the newly revealed X3.

BMW announces US pricing for M2, X4 M40i at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show

BMW M GmbH brought two new offerings to the 2016 North American International Auto Show in Detroit: the BMW M2 and the BMW X4 M40i. Awaited by many fans, the BMW M2 has a smooth design on both the exterior and interior which compliments well with the performance of the BMW M.

This latest offering of BMW M GmbH symbolizes the M model’s DNA as it continues the M tradition of a vehicle having unequaled driving dynamics both on the racing circuit or the highway.

Powering the M2 is the new Turbo M TwinPower 3-liter 6-cylinder engine which can deliver 365 bhp. Torque has been measured to be 343 lb.-ft. between 1,400 rpm and 5,560 rpm, although the M2 has an overboost capability that can increase this amount to 369 lb.-ft. between revolutions per minute of 1,450 and 4,750. This results in an acceleration figure of 0 to 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds with a maximum speed at 155 mph.

The front portion and side mirrors have the brand’s own Ferric Gray metallic highlight. Adding to the look are the optional M light-alloy 20-inch double-spoke wheels that come with tires from Michelin Pilot Super Sport.

BMW will use kits delivered from its U.S. plant to boost production this summer of the X4 SUV in Russia with local partner Avtotor based in Kaliningrad. At this plant, BMW already assembles seven models from semi-knockdown kits. When interviewed by Automotive News Europe, a BMW spokesman said that these X4 SUVs built by Avtotor will only be available in Russia.

The spokesman also said that BMW group’s Spartanburg plant in the U.S. will ship the X4 assembly kits to Russia. BMW had recently announced that it had put off deciding on a plan to construct its own plant in Russia due to uncertainty from the financial crisis.

From the start of the year through April, new-car sales in Russia declined by 38% as customers now rarely make large purchases in an economy affected by Western sanctions, dropping oil prices, and a weakening currency.

Set to make its world debut at the 2014 New York Auto Show, in April, the 2015 BMW X4 (F26) will take on cars such as the recently introduced Porsche Macan and the Range Rover Evoque, but BMW expects to have the same success with the new Sports Activity Coupe (SAC) as it had with the X6. Finished in Long Beach Blue, the X4 concept features an aggressive front fascia that comes with prominent kidney grille, large air intakes and LED headlights.

BMW is adding a new vehicle to its new 4-series lineup as it capitalizes on a hike in light-truck sales in the United States. The new vehicle will be the X4 crossover that will be produced in South Carolina and is expected to be rolled out in 2014. The German carmaker has released images of the X4 concept and is set to unveil the vehicle at the Shanghai auto show this month.

BMW’s 4-series lineup will now include the X4, the 4-series coupe that will be available this year, and the 4-series convertible that will be rolled out in 2014. All three models are designed to target younger buyers seeking more stylish vehicles even for a premium price. Light trucks accounted for almost 40 percent of BMW’s US sales in March 2013, up from around 30 percent in the same period in 2012.

While BMW posted a 13-percent decline in car volume in the US so far this year, it managed to log a 58-percent hike in light-truck sales.  In 2012, BMW posted a 28-percent jump in US light-truck sales to 95,314 units, even outperforming US car sales that logged a 7-percent hike. The X4 will be underpinned by the same platform used by the X3 crossover.

BMW has announced that its Spartanburg plant in South Carolina will be the sole producer of its up and coming X4 crossover vehicle that will be rolled out in 2014. To accommodate the X4 at the Spartanburg plant, the German carmaker will expand the site’s annual capacity from nearly 300,000 units to 350,000 units.

The Spartanburg plant currently produces all of BMW’s X models, except for the compact X1. Ian Robertson, BMW's board member for marketing and sales, told Automotive News, that they need more capacity in the plant, not only for the upcoming X4, but also for the current X range. According to Robertson, BMW could have sold 35,000 more X3s around the world if the plant had the capacity to produce them.

Despite the need for more production capacity, BMW will still build the X3, X5, X6 and the upcoming X4 only at its Spartanburg site. BMW builds the X1 in Europe for global markets and in China for local Chinese market. According to Robertson, the X4 will complement sales of the X3, without cannibalizing sales – the same way that the X6 has complemented sales of the X5.

BMW is expecting its new X4 model to attract a new type of customer to the luxury brand, according to Ian Robertson, the carmaker’s sales chief. The X4 is touted as a sportier version of the X3 sports utility vehicle donning a lower roofline and coupe styling. The X4 follows BMW’s launch of the X6 as a sportier alternative to the X5.

Robertson told Automotive News Europe that with the X6, BMW has attracted an entirely different buyer than for the X5. He remarked that they expect a similar occurrence for the X4 versus the X3.

According to BMW chief executive Norbert Reithofer, the German carmaker will roll out the X4 in 2014. BMW will build the X4 at its Spartanburg plant in South Carolina, where the carmaker is expanding its annual production capacity from 300,000 vehicles to 350,000.

BMW’s numbering system for its models will be expanded. Next year, BMW will launch a coupe named the 4 series. After a few years, the 2 series (a new number) will arrive. The roles of the 2 series and the 4 series will be similar. Both are meant to boost the brand image of the automaker. The coupe and cabriolet variants of the mainstream sedans will cost higher so that they would win higher resale values.

The odd numbers will be maintained for BMW's sedans and hatchbacks, the 1 series, 3 series, 5 series and 7 series, as well as the X1, X3 and X5 SUV/crossovers. The even numbers will still be used for the sportier SUV/crossovers in any BMW size class. In 2014, the X6 will be joined by the smaller X4. A more compact X2 will come later.

4 series will be the replacement for the coupe version of the 3 series, which made up around 10% of total 3-series sales in 2011. What BMW intends to do with the 4 series is to give its top-selling coupe its own identity. When the 3 series was released in 1975, the two-door variant used a design that’s similar to that of the four-door.

Expect to see a preview of BMW’s X4 SUV this January at the Detroit Auto Show. Earlier this year, BMW chairman Norbert Reithofer confirmed that this project was ongoing. According to BMW officials, the ute will make its debut as a near-production concept. It’s expected to compete with the looks, dimensions and packaging of the Porsche Macan, which will start being available for sale in North America in early 2014.

The all-wheel-drive X4 will use the same monocoque steel platform, engines and underpinnings as the second-generation X3. BMW will put in a higher slot on its lineup so that it becomes more profitable. To justify this, the SUV will get individual styling to convey a more sporting image. It’s expected to have a starting price of about $42,000.

The first time that we knew about BMW's plans to rival the Porsche Macan was two years ago on a Nov. 17, 2010 Autoweek article titled “Faceoff.” BMW was considering several design proposals in 2010. It was believed that the X4 will have a different look from the X3 similar to how the larger X6 is differentiated from the X5, with a bullish front end, plunging coupé-style roofline, four conventional front-hinged doors and a heavily angled one-piece tailgate.

BMW may release its own X4M model as early as 2015 to compete with Porsche’s Macan model, which is equipped with a 370-hp V6 powerplant. This means that the compact performance SUV segment will be an exciting one with the entry of these two models. Since the X6 model was very successful, the compact, performance SUV has received a lot of attention.

BMW aims to match Porsche in this new niche market by creating what would basically be a ‘baby X6M’ model, which features the same six-cylinder powerplant that will be used in the next-generation M3 model. This project is internally dubbed as ‘an M3 on stilts’. In addition, the performance compact SUV will integrate BMW M’s Electro-mechanical steering technology, a revised M-DCT transmission.

It will come with all of the automaker’s EfficientDynamics technologies such as engine stop-start, brake energy regeneration and on-demand operation of engine ancillaries. A BMW insider said that the X4M will be around 1.6-inch shorter than the X6M model.

If yesterday it was just a rumor, today the Bmw X4 became official as the Bavarian manufacturer announced that it will expand the X family to include the X4. Bmw plans to invest USD 900 million in the Spartanburg plant by 2014 and to create 300 new jobs by the end of this year. In this way, Bmw will be able to produce 350,000 units in Spartanburg in the mid term.

For those who don’t know, Bmw already invested USD 750 million in the expansion of the plant for production of the new BMW X3 between 2008 and 2010.

Last year, Bmw plant in Spartanburg produced 276,065 vehicles for more than 130 markets around the world, representing an increase of 73% over the previous year. One of the best sellers was the Bmw X3, as the global sales of this model rose 156% in 2011 to reach a total of 117,944 vehicles.

It appears that Bmw is quite serious about building the X4, a sporty version of the X3 inspired by the X6. These words came from company CEO Norbert Reithofer, who confirmed the car in an interview with British magazine Autocar. The new Bmw X4 will be position above the X3 and will extend the presence of the Bavarian manufacturer on the premium SUV market.

As expected, the car will be smaller and more agile than the X3 and will make its debut in 2014. Moreover, the car will also receive an M version dubbed the X4 M.

Although it will be based on the X3, the new X4 will receive its own individual styling in order to offer a sporting image and enable Bmw to position it above the model which it is based. Regarding the design, expect to see a smaller X6 with a bullish front end, curved coupé-style roofline as well as a heavily angled tailgate.

In order to expand its utility-vehicle lineup, it appears that Bmw is set to add an smaller X4, with a range-topping M version. The car is set to make its debut in 2014 and will carry the same design lines as the Bmw X6, but at a smaller scale. The technical part will be borrowed from the 2011 Bmw X3.

The design process will be inspired by the X6, which was inspired by the X5: the new X4 will receive the same front fascia as the X3, while the rear end will be completely new.

Its direct competitor will be the upcoming Porsche Cajun, which will be offered as a two-door initially. “This car is motivating our development department at the moment.” said a Bmw insider, when speaking about the Porsche Cajun.

BMW has plans for a smaller version of the X6, its coupe-styled SUV, according to an Auto Express report. This new model, which will likely have the X4 badge, follows the success of the X6 that has surpassed sales forecasts.

BMW has hinted that there would be a newcomer based on the recently revealed X3. Insiders reveal that this car, which is codenamed X-Style, looks similar to the X6 with its stylish coupe-like roofline and a muscular body.

But while the X6 gets a conventional tailgate, the new car will feature a twin-hatch system, which is also what the 5-Series Gran Turismo uses.
