BMW will launch the fourth generation of its X5 SUV to the global market in March 2019. Its high-performance version, the X5 M, would follow but that would take some time. As there would be customers who want their new X5 looks sportier than usual, BMW is allowing them to dress up their SUVs in M style through M Performance Parts.
Just in time for the global launch of the new X5 (05), BMW will be offering an extensive range of M Performance Parts, as available through the Original BMW Accessories program. Just like any other M Performance Parts, the ones that will be available for the new X5 were developed through racing expertise of BMW M. All of these M Performance Parts have a functional purpose, such as enhancing the X5’s aerodynamics or contributing to its already intelligent lightweight concept.
A number of M Performance Parts for the new X5 are made from carbon fiber, giving the SUV a more striking appearance inspired by motor racing. Most of these CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced plastic) components feature a final high-gloss polish for further depth effect.Read the entire article Extensive M Performance Parts will be available at launch of the BMW X5 (G05)
It was in February 2016 when we first saw the actual BMW 740e, and rumours quickly spread that it will have a short life cycle. But sources now say that the plug-in hybrid fullsize sedan will retire next year to give way to a new 745e. In fact, this model was just at the 2017 SEMA Show to display a wide range of M Performance parts. Hopefully, there will be a more powerful model and there will be an electric car with more range. However, so far there has been no confirmation.
Currently, the outgoing 740e comes with a turbocharged 2.0 liter four cylinder engine that produces 255 horsepower. It is then paired with an electric motor with another 111 horsepower. Overall, the electrified 7 Series can carry out a total of 322 horsepower and 369 pound-feet (500 Newton metres) of torque. When combined with the engine, the 740e develops a peak torque at 1,250 rpm. In only 5.1 seconds, the 740e can accelerate to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) before hitting its maximum speed of 130 miles per hour (209 kilometers per hour).
While we don’t expect dramatic changes, we’re excited to see what the new 745e has to offer. But what we would really like to improve is the current electric range of just 14 miles provided by the 9.2 kilowatt hour lithium ion battery pack that is recharged via a standard J1772 3.7 kW plug. We anticipate that extending the range will really drum up sales for the series.Read the entire article BMW is rumoured to be working on new 745e model and X5 xDrive45e hybrid
At last, BMW’s all-new X5 xDrive40e PHEV crossover arrived with same looks as the standard model but with a new technology that offers a low fuel consumption. According to BMW, the X5 xDrive40e uses a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 245 hp and 258 lb-ft or 350 Nm of torque, as well as an electric motor that generates an additional 113 hp (83 kW) and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) of torque.
The total output delivered by the hybrid powertrain is 313 hp (230 kW) and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque. The vehicle is able to hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.8 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited at 130 mph or 210 km/h. Using just the electric motor and the energy stored in the 9 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the X5 xDrive40e has a top speed of 75 mph (120 km/h), while the all-electric range is up to 19 miles or 31 km.
The battery can be fully recharged in 3 hours and 50 minutes when using a regular household and in just 2 hours and 45 minutes when using the optional BMW I Wallbox. The engine is bolted to an 8-speed Steptronic gearbox, average fuel consumption is 3.3 – 3.4 l/100 km (83.1 – 85.6 UK mpg or 69.1 – 71.2 US mpg), while CO2 emissions are just 78 grams per km.Read the entire article 2016 BMW X5 xDrive40e becomes an official German PHEV

Due to the risk of losing power brake assist, BMW has issued the recall of around 30,000 of its 2007-10 X5 sport utility vehicles with V-8 engines, according to a report submitted to the safety agency National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This same problem had cropped up in 2010 in a recall that covered 200,000 BMW vehicles.
In the recent filing to the NHTSA, BMW said that the brake booster may fail. The brakes may continue to function even then but power assist could be gone. BMW determined that the problem stems from a check valve of the brake vacuum pump that leaks a small quantity of lubricating oil into the vacuum hose. If this oil enters the brake booster, it may fail.
This is the exact same defect that led to the 2010 recall. But then, BMW explained that at the time, the X5s were not included in the recall since the brake line on the X5 “has an upward routing in comparison to the horizontal routing” on the units included in the 2010 recall. BMW said that no recall was required since it believed that upward routing was less vulnerable to the problem.Read the entire article Bmw recalling 30,000 of its 2007-10 X5 SUVs for faulty brakes
