Manhart MHX6 Dirt² Concept proves that your BMW X6 can transform into a hardcore off-roader

The BMW X6 (F16) SUV, as we know, is inspired by a coupe. But owners of that car probably won’t take it off-roading. This hesitation is what convinced Manhart, the German tuner, to turn the X6 into an off-roading, go-anywhere vehicle. This is how they came up with the MHX6 Dirt² Concept. Unfortunately, the aftermarket tuner only plans to build five examples of the hardcore rigs.

Manhart started off by basing the vehicle on the current X6 M. The first thing they did to it was to give its engine a boost, so now it produces an impressive 888 horsepower (662 kilowatts) and 885 pound-feet (1,200 Newton-metres) of torque - all thanks to the upgrades like the new pistons, connecting rods, and revised turbos.

It also gets a strengthened gearbox and rear axle that are tough enough to handle the SUV’s extra power. To ensure that it survives hot summer days in warm climates, it was equipped with a cooling system too. There are dual air intake snorkels that stick out of the hood to provide both a visual flourish, making wading through deep water less of a worry.

BMW M Performance Parts unveils new kits and parts for BMW X6 (F16)

The BMW M Performance Parts was seen on the 2014 Essen Motor Show, unveiling a new set of components for the BMW X6 as well as two new M Performance Power kits. And they may be just a part of what is coming for X6. Actually, the new BMW X6 already looks mean, when it comes to looks and its aerodynamics.

But that may not be mean enough for BMW as the carmaker eventually decided to make the SAC meaner both inside and outside. In fact, BMW has now made available a complete set of M Performance Parts for the X6. For the exteriors, the choices include a new carbon fiber front splitter, rear diffuser and rear spoiler. Customers could also get rear fins and rear side flaps in gloss black as well as hand-built carbon BMW M Performance exterior mirror caps.

BMW X6 (F16) gets upgraded by German tuner Hamann

Looking for a place to tune your BMW X6? Well, why not try Hamann, a German tuner known for specializing in offering tuning kits for vehicles made by BMW. Hamann does not only offer to turn a typical BMW into a monstrous one in terms of performance and dynamics, the company also offers to install well-designed body parts – truly turning a BMW vehicle into a performance machine inside and out.

As for the BMW X6, this piece of machine is already a hardcore unit. Thus turning the X6 into a meaner machine could be quite a challenge as it may look too cheesy in the end. For now, Hamann fitted some of its wheels into the BMW X6, and just that alone changed its look.

The wheel-set alone managed to make a difference in terms of looks. Even in standard colors -- EVO Black Line with silver lips, the Anniversary EVO line in silver and the Evo Hyper Black – the Hamann wheel-fitted BMW X6 now bears quite a different look.

Hamann offers meaner BMW X6 with new set of wheels

The BMW X6 has a polarizing design. In fact, some people say that the new X6 has an ugly design while some praise the vehicle for its new looks. Whatever the debate is all about, it boils to one thing: people have different preferences. Well, if a customer really likes the BMW X6 except for its looks, he or she could always approach any of the thriving tuning companies.

For a more specific tuning, there is a tuning company specializing in BMW vehicles – German tuning firm Hamann. In fact, the company managed to offer a battalion of options and kits for the old E71 X6. For the new version of the X6 – the F16 – Hamann is surely not letting this tuning opportunity pass by.

For starters, Hamann fitted its own wheels into the BMW X6. They were not just factory-based 19-inch wheels, but 23-inch rims in various designs. They look very good on the BMW X6, especially the multi-spoke Edition Race rims in dark finish.

This is it folks, Mercedes-Benz’ answer to the BMW X6 a.k.a. the all-new GLE Coupe. Clearly inspired by its German rival, the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe promises to feel like a true sports car and despite its similarity with an SUV with its raised seating position and all-around view, the passengers are led to believe that they are in a sports rather than off-road mode.

Although no prototypes were spotted yet, the 2015 Bmw X6 was rendered by an artist based on the new design shown by the 2014 Bmw X5 (F15). Set to make its debut at the 2014 Moscow Motor Show, the new Bmw X6 will be wider and longer, comparing it with the current version.

Taking a look at the rendering we must admit that we’d love a next-gen X6 like this one, but we will still have to wait and see what Bmw prepared for us.

The engines are expected to be identical with the ones presented on the X5 (F15), which means that we will see a 4.4-liter V8 on the X6 xDrive50i delivering 450 hp and 650 Nm of torque, a 3.0-liter six-cylinder in-line diesel with 258 hp and 560 Nm of torque on the X6 xDrive30d and a tri-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder with 381 hp and 740 Nm of torque on the X6 M40d.

A successor to the BMW X6 will be launched shortly after the new X4 makes its arrival in 2014. BMW didn’t give the exact date for the introduction of this new SUV in the UK. However, it’s believed that the new X6 will have its global debut at the Moscow Motor Show next year. It’s also expected to go on sale in the third quarter of 2014, according to Autocar.

The new X6 is based on the same platform as the next X5 and it will have the same form as the current model except that it will have more aggressive details.

BMW plans to present a new BMW X6 within the next 18 months to counteract the deluge of similarly developed four-wheel-drives from rivals like Audi, Land Rover and Mercedes-Benz. The second-gen X6 – which is the sister car to the third-generation X5 – is a key model in an expanded lineup of sporting four-wheel-drive models that are presently being developed in Munich at BMW’s engineering headquarters.

The smaller but less expensive X2 and X4 models will soon be added to the luxury SUV in its lineup sometime mid-decade. This move will increase the number of BMW’s dedicated four-wheel-drive models from four to six by 2016. The new X6 is predicted to make use of an even bolder look than the present model, which is popular in markets like China, North America and Russia.

Autocar was told by BMW design sources that the new model will deviate farther from the X5 not just in shape but in the detailing too. According to a source, the company aims for its sporting models to appear more individual, to distinguish visually from their more practical models in the lineup. There is a marginal increase in length from the current model’s 4877mm to around 4910mm. It is targeted at offering the new X6 with more levels of interior space.

If yesterday it was just a rumor, today it became official: Audi will build a rival to the Bmw X6 and may also launch a challenger to the upcoming Bmw X4 (inspired by the Vw Cross Coupe Concept). These words came from Walter de' Silva, design boss at Audi parent Volkswagen Group, who confirmed that Audi signed off on plans for the X6 rival.

Although de’ Silva didn’t want to give any details regarding the date when the car will be launched we do expect this car within three years as Audi aims to overtake Bmw and become the best-selling premium brand by 2015.

The car is currently dubbed as the Q6 by the media and it will feature a low-roof SUV-coupe crossover shape. As expected, the vehicle will be fitted between the Q7 premium large SUV and Q5 premium medium SUV. "We will definitely launch a sportier crossover in between the Q7 and Q5," de' Silva said.

Audi has begun development of a new crossover model with a focus on performance that aims to directly rival the BMW X6. This model is expected to be named the Q6 when it arrives at North American showrooms. It’s rumored that the five-seat crossover will be based on the same all-wheel-drive underpinnings as the second-generation Volkswagen Touareg and the Porsche Cayenne.

These two vehicles use a short-wheelbase version of the Volkswagen Group's Colorado platform that in long-wheelbase guise has also been used in the Audi Q7. So far, no official details have been released.

But Audi boss Rupert Stadler was interviewed by German media at the Geneva Auto Show and he said that the crossover is a “model between the Q5 and the Q7” and that it will be a coupelike, four-wheel-driven model.

The aftermarket industry will be represented well in the Geneva Motor Show. Recently, reports came out that Lumma Design will debut the Porsche Cayenne-based CLR 558 GT at the show. Lumma will also bring a modification pack for the BMW X6, in the form of the CLR X650 kit. The X6 competes against the Cayenne.

Similar to what Lumma did with the Cayenne, its aftermarket program for the X6 will use a diesel engine for the aftermarket program.

Lumma will install its D-Box engine modification kit, including a sport exhaust system with four tail pipes, an ECU remap and a custom accelerator pedal module. In stock form, the X6’s 3.0l diesel unit delivers 306 hp but after being modified, it now offers 340 hp.

BMW announced that various enhancements for the 2011 X5 and X6 models will become available this spring. These include new 20-inch light-alloy wheel rims and the BMW ConnectedDrive technology enhanced with the BMW Apps feature. In addition, the five-seater Sports Activity Coupe is offered as an option in Nevada and Exclusive Nappa leather as well as BMW Individual Merino leather, encompassing the entire color range. Modifications will be made on the standard eight-speed Sport automatic transmission, as future BMW X6 vehicles will be given shift paddles on the steering wheel, operating on the same principle as that from BMW M cars.
