While BMW and Toyota have entered a deal to co-develop a sports car project, each company will be producing entirely different models. BMW’s CEO for Australia Marc Werner had spoken with Car Advice recently and this is part of what he said. The company as we know is busy preparing for the rebirth of the Z4 --- which will inevitably be known as BMWs ultimate driving machine.
During the talk, Werner has also revealed the reason why BMW joined up with Toyota for this project, saying that they have to achieve "economies of scale" especially with the decreasing demand for roadsters. He further explained why doing this alone will not benefit either company; that’s why the new Z4 will somehow share certain characteristics with the upcoming Toyota Supra. The product development for each vehicle type often costs about 2 billion in USD. It is rather sad how sales for the roadster segment have gotten worse in the last two years, he stressed.
The official name for BMW’s much awaited Japanese counterpart however was not yet been confirmed at the time of this writing. The joint project, which involves both Toyota and BMW, will also mean that both sports cars will be using the same platform.Read the entire article BMW says looks and performance of Z4 will be very different from Toyota Supra
How come most of the coolest cars remain only in our imaginations? This week, BMW introduced the Z4 Concept at the 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, and artists have already bombarded the internet with their own variations of the hot roadster - just like this BMW Z4 Coupe Concept. These artists are not just playing with the Z4 as a convertible, but as a coupe with a fixed roof as you can see in this X-Tomi Design rendering.
We already know that if the Z4 concept turns into a production car, it will most likely not include a metal roof. This means that if you are looking for a hard top version, then you will have to settle for a Toyota Supra instead. And speaking of the Japanese model, this rendering is a little close to what it is.
If you compare the rendering to the actual Z4 concept, you would notice that 80 percent of the design cues remain. This includes the mesh kidney grille, the vertically oriented headlights, and the M-style wheels. The biggest upgrade is that the rendering gets a fixed roof, making it look much sportier than it already does. Lastly, the artist gave it a matte red finish that makes it look even more aggressive.Read the entire article Artist publishes rendering of a BMW Z4 Coupe Concept
This weekend at the 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the BMW Z4 Concept will make its first public appearance. The good news is that we will finally have a real idea of what the upcoming roadster will look like.
Senior Vice President of BMW Group Design, Adrian van Hooydonk, said that the BMW Z4 Concept is a representation of the company’s new design language from all perspectives. This ranges from the dynamic design of the fascia to the striking flanks, all the way to the rear end. The lines and the exchange that occurs between surfaces give it a sense of power.
This concept gets its design and inspiration from the older roadsters of BMW, except this one does not look retro at all. If you notice, this concept actually veers from the company’s traditional styling cues - starting from the headlights that are more vertically oriented. This is different from past BMW models that have a horizontally oriented head lights. Another element added to the Z4 is the new mesh grille, instead of its typical bar set-up.Read the entire article BMW Z4 Concept unveiled ahead of 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance
On August 17, BMW is set to reveal something that so many of us have been anticipating. So better save the date if you want to be one of the first ones to witness their surprise. And just a few weeks before they unveil it, they released a teaser of the car’s silhouette, showing only the shape of the convertible’s upper half - and it is already looking pretty sexy.
“The road will never be the same” is what captions the beautiful image. After the company posted this, the biggest question in mind is, what is it? There were a number of comments that came out after, some were saying that it is a convertible 8 Series. It could be, but the shape and size do not seem to fit. However, others suggest that it could be a Targa-top i8. Since we do not know the right answer to this question yet, we can do our own investigation to guess what this could be, or we could just wait until August 17.
August 17 is happening a few days before the 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, and it is quite common for automakers to unveil their new models days before events like these. Furthermore, BMW Designworks is just a couple of hours away from Pebble Beach, so we might actually see the actual car in the event. Remember that last year, the company brought out the fully restored 1957 507 that was once owned by Elvis Presley to the 2016 Pebble Beach event.Read the entire article BMW teases us with what might be a Z4 Targa top silhouette
If you thought that last year was the year for the BMW fanboys, then you might want to reconsider this year's offer. 2017 is upping the game after the 8 Series Concept was spotted at the Villa d'Este recently this week. At Pebble Beach is where the BMW followers’ dreams will come true, in a sense. According to sources, the upcoming BMW Z4 from the German automaker can finally be previewed after having been clouded in secrecy. We will be expecting this year to be a BMW fest, and we can't wait.
BMW axed the Z4 around August 2016 and probably, in the latter part of this year, the automobile will be given a second lease with the same label. To the surprise of everybody, a concept will be shown at 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance that is scheduled on August 16-20, and we are counting down the months before we can see how the roadster will transform into what will be known as the 3rd gen.
Produced under the "G29" moniker, the new roadster is conceived under the collective work between BMW and Toyota, with the Japanese automaker set to unveil its own version of the car, likely resurrecting the legendary "Supra" codename and released as a coupe. Prototypes of the said vehicles have been spotted various times, albeit in camouflage, so it’s very hard to decipher. However, the recent batch of spy photos did provide us some preliminary tech details of the revived Z4.Read the entire article BMW Z4 (G29) Concept, a joint project with Toyota, will be unveiled at 2017 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance
Don’t you just love it when individual artists come up with their own perspective or design of current models in the market? Well, the latest rendering you might be interested to see is by X-Tomi Design. They came out with a CGI of how the 2018 BMW Z4 looks underneath its camouflage.
The CGI reveals the roadster in a nice shade of blue, almost like a navy blue that adopts the Bavarian company’s current style philosophy. Though it looks a little similar to the rest of the lineup, the Z4 was designed with a more prominent set of kidney grilles, positioned between two familiar looking headlights. The hood has been sculpted and the front bumpers come with large air intakes that make it look somewhat sportier.
Looking at the rendering, the design will make you think that there is a powerful engine under the hood, with the front quarter panels’ large vent - adding to its already aggressive styling. The rear fenders have been designed to look more muscular with a large set of alloy wheels that look perfect with the design. To finish off the exterior, the retractable hardtop had been replaced with a simpler soft top which had been folded in the CGI.Read the entire article 2018 BMW Z4 looks pretty good in the latest rendering
For those wondering what name BMW will be calling the replacement for the Z4, well this one will truly surprise you. When BMW first said that it will be replacing the Z4, there was a lot of discussion on what the name of the name model would be with many expecting it to be called as the Z5. Co-developed in a partnership with Toyota, the brand has dispelled any such notion when it comes to the name.
According to an interview with Auto Guide, CEO for BMW North American Ludwig Willisch has confirmed that this upcoming sports car will not be named as the “Z5” and added that it is a name that was made up by other people. He added that it would likely carry over the name and when pressed for a possible name, Willisch said that it may be called as, surprise, surprise, the Z4.
In the same interview, Willisch was also asked what will be powering this two-seater and if it will have a straight six-engine. He answered though that everything will be open to various interpretations. While it may be called the Z4, this would not necessarily refer to the number of cylinders, he continued. Given this answer, there is the likelihood that the new Z4, which is expected to have a fabric roof, will have an inline-six engine and thus become part of the small units with four-cylinder engines. Auto Guide also asked Willisch if the upcoming model will have the xDrive set-up, to which he replied that even he was not sure if it will indeed be offered. He did confirm that the brand was not closing the possibility of a hybrid version.Read the entire article BMW will keep the Z4 moniker for its future sports car, not going for the Z5
BMW is eyeing to roll out a successor to its Z4 roadster before the end of the decade, development chief Klaus Froehlich told Automotive News Europe. The carmaker could share development costs with Toyota as partners. The carmakers have a cooperation deal that includes a common sports car architecture, collaboration on powertrain electrification and pooling of r&d on lightweight technologies.
BMW is trying to update the car in a cost-effective manner since global demand for two-seat roadsters and coupe has been dropping. “If you look at the volume … we have to realize that these segments are shrinking,” Froehlich said, noting that the body type is not popular in China, which is currently the largest auto market in the world.“
The unpopularity of such in China could be attributed to the preference of customers for privacy, which could be compromised when in a vehicle an open top. Likewise, driving in an open top is not preferable in many of China’s cities, no thanks to the issue of poor air quality.Read the entire article Successor to BMW Z4 may come before 2020

Scott26 a.k.a. the best source for the latest BMW news just released additional info regarding the next-generation Z4. As expected, this new model will be co-developed with Toyota but what’s more interesting is that the new sports car will receive the Z3 moniker. The design will be influenced by the Vision ConnectedDrive Concept.
If BMW will offer the Z3 as a roadster, Toyota will make its own version of the vehicle but will sell it as a coupe at first. Still, both manufacturers will offer the vehicle as a coupe and roadster later. Moreover, both manufacturers will develop their own chassis. Comparing it with the current Z4, the new Z3 will be lighter thanks to weight reduction innovation, while the pricing is expected to be in the same area.
The Z3 will also ditch the hard top we seen and loved on the Z4 in favor of a soft top, in order to reduce the weight. The new sports car will also feature a carbon fiber tub and chassis, as well as key elements such as suspension arms made form CFRP, aluminum A structure and chassis section.Read the entire article Next-generation BMW Z4 will be co-developed with Toyota, debut as the Z3

As a result, it introduced the new Z4 Facelift and announced that it will bring the car in January, at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. Still, you will need some eagle eyes to see the differences between this and the outgoing model as the Bavarian manufacturer applied some subtle changes.
First of all, we have modified front and rear bumpers, but don’t expect something fancy. As expected, the front bumper features LED daytime running lights now. Moreover, the new Z4 features three new body colours available exclusively with the Design Pure Traction option, which is also new. Black and orange tones create a particularly absorbing contrast of colours in the interior. B

BMW has revealed that there’s a significant price hike for the 2012 BMW 528i, which is powered by the TwinPower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. It is slated to arrive in U.S. showrooms this fall. BMW said that the Z4 and 3-Series will all be priced considerably higher. BMW is bent on turning green by powering all its cars with ‘28i’ in their names with this TwinPower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which replaces the 3.0-liter.
The 2012 528i has a price tag of over $47,575. This means that there’s a $2,505 difference compared to the 2011 model that could be bought for $45,050. The new 2.0-liter engine is similar to the newest TwinPower Turbo 3.0-liter turbo inline-6 as it also uses a combination of high-pressure direct-injection and BMW's VALVETRONIC intake control with a forced induction system that includes a single twin-scroll turbocharger.
When used in the 528i, the top output of 240hp can be reached at 5,000 rpm, 1,500 rpm lower than in the normally-aspirated 3.0-liter inline six. The peak torque of 260 lb-ft, comes on stream at only 1,250 rpm. It means that it has 30% more torque than the inline-6 and it also comes 1,500 rpm earlier.Read the entire article 2012 Bmw 528i, Z4 U.S. pricing announced
In recent weeks, the modified BMW Z4 GT3 has managed to more than prove itself after undergoing a succession of intensive tests. This means that this GT customer sports car has managed to survive what may be its baptism of fire. In conducting the current improvements, the goal was mainly to enhance the vehicle’s aerodynamic efficiency to make sure that it remained competitive especially in the hard-fought GT3 classes.
First launched in March 2010, the BMW Z4 GT3 accomplished its greatest success by January 2011. This sports car managed to win the Dubai 24 Hours under Team Schubert, which includes German driver Claudia Hürtgen, BMW works driver Brazilian Augusto Farfus, American Tommy Milner, and Swedish driver Edward Sandström. For the BMW Z4 GT3, this was its first ever outright win for a marathon race at this scale.
It had previously shown it had potential by winning in its debut season during the FIA GT3 European Championship. This series version of the BMW Z4 has a unique appearance due to the narrow wheel arches, long wheel base, elongated bonnet, and the driver compartment that goes to the car’s rear. It is this two-seater that gave BMW Motorsport engineers the foundation for creating a competition racing GT3 car.Read the entire article 2011 BMW Z4 GT3 test programme comes to an end

That blend has been maintained by the BMW Z4 for today. The latest Z4 is thus being inaugurated solely with inline-6 units, a selection of two powerhouses offering both potency and performance. These special powerhouses demonstrate modification and rapid-revving response standard of a BMW 6-cylinder, providing an unsurpassed harmony of fuel-economy and performance in the finest roadster category courtesy of the engineering strategy of BMW EfficientDynamics.Read the entire article 2009 Bmw Z4 Roadster: full details revealed

BMW is hoping that with the new design of the Z4 it will be more attractive to women than the previous model. Between 2004 and 2008, about 200,000 units of the outgoing model have been sold but most of the buyers, between 80 to 90 percent, were men. The new Z4 design is not as masculine as it was previously; it is more floating and round.
The new variant will hit dealers in Germany with a 35,900 Euro ($48,650) price tag. Sales ranking for the Z4 is in this order: the US, which is the biggest market, followed by the UK, Germany, Italy and Japan.
