A Mercedes-Benz E 300 BlueTEC HYBRID took part in the RAC Future Car Challenge on November 3. This vehicle, which uses Bosch’s latest hybrid technology, was driven by Peter Fouquet, the Bosch UK president. Bosch supplies the synchronous motor for the luxury hybrid’s advanced drivetrain, which mainly serves to cut emissions at lower speeds.
The motor offers 184lb ft of torque from zero, enabling the E 300 BlueTEC HYBRID to be driven smoothly and flawlessly. The motor is powered by a four-cylinder diesel engine and allows the engine to turn off and enter a ‘coasting’ mode when the foot gets off the throttle, which helps in saving fuel at speeds up to 100mph.
Bosch and Daimler’s EM-motive joint venture built this motor. The JV develops and builds electric motors at its plant in Hildesheim, Germany. It aims to make over a million electric motors by 2020. The E 300 BlueTEC HYBRID is the most fuel-efficient car in its class, with 109g/km of CO2 emissions and a combined average fuel economy of 67.3mpg.Read the entire article Bosch showcased its latest hybrid technology at the RAC Future Car Challenge
At the upcoming Automechanika exhibition in Frankfurt from Sept. 14 to 19, Robert Bosch GmbH will be demonstrating its expertise in maintaining a hybrid-vehicle. The company is a global leader in automotive electronics, driveline technology, hybrid-vehicle systems, and diagnostics. On this year’s stand, the company is expected to position itself as a customer's “Partner for the Future of the Workshop.”

Meyen added that Bosch is supportive of the workshops with its diagnostics systems, as well as the latest technical information and practical training courses.Read the entire article Bosch will showcase its expertise in hybrid-vehicle maintenance at Automechanika
Green Car Reports recently reported that Ford North America has just stopped producing its C-Max Energi. While speaking with Dan Jones, Ford North America’s Communications Mgr., it has been confirmed that the electric version of the C-Max has bowed out of the assembly lines while its hybrid version is expected to come next in the following year.
The recent decision could be due to the C-Max series’ unfulfilled sales expectations. Ford has only delivered a total of 40,690 C-Max Energi plug-in hybrids from October 2012 up to the end of October this year. For a while now, it has also been wildly anticipated that Ford will soon be replacing it with some new models. Given that the company has just started testing its new Ford Escape Energi plugins as well as the expected arrival of the new Ford Focus Energi, the C-Max Energi’s production course has inevitably ended.
For one, The C-Max Energi has never been as popular in the US market. Despite selling a total of 2,374 units in 2012 followed by 7,154 in 2013 and 8,433 in 2014, the sales volume never really took off as much as the Tesla Model S or Nissan LEAF or Toyota Prius or even Chevy’s Volt and Bolt EVs. Even so, Ford has sold as many as 7,591 C-Max plugins in 2015, 7,957 in 2016 and 7,181 in 2017 and has stayed consistently among the top ten hybrid models in the country. Ford only has one remaining plug-in hybrid model under its portfolio and that is the Ford Fusion Energi with the same powertrain.Read the entire article Ford C-Max Energi discontinued, C-Max Hybrid to continue assembly until mid-2018
It was in February 2016 when we first saw the actual BMW 740e, and rumours quickly spread that it will have a short life cycle. But sources now say that the plug-in hybrid fullsize sedan will retire next year to give way to a new 745e. In fact, this model was just at the 2017 SEMA Show to display a wide range of M Performance parts. Hopefully, there will be a more powerful model and there will be an electric car with more range. However, so far there has been no confirmation.
Currently, the outgoing 740e comes with a turbocharged 2.0 liter four cylinder engine that produces 255 horsepower. It is then paired with an electric motor with another 111 horsepower. Overall, the electrified 7 Series can carry out a total of 322 horsepower and 369 pound-feet (500 Newton metres) of torque. When combined with the engine, the 740e develops a peak torque at 1,250 rpm. In only 5.1 seconds, the 740e can accelerate to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) before hitting its maximum speed of 130 miles per hour (209 kilometers per hour).
While we don’t expect dramatic changes, we’re excited to see what the new 745e has to offer. But what we would really like to improve is the current electric range of just 14 miles provided by the 9.2 kilowatt hour lithium ion battery pack that is recharged via a standard J1772 3.7 kW plug. We anticipate that extending the range will really drum up sales for the series.Read the entire article BMW is rumoured to be working on new 745e model and X5 xDrive45e hybrid
While many believe electric mobility is the future, it is still uncertain how far or near we really are into making the transition --- but that may change real soon.
Insiders reveal in a recent report by Autocar that Volkswagen Group is taking the steps to make this happen at the earliest time possible. How? It seeks to become the leading promoter of e-mobility in the market. It is said that Volkswagen Group wishes to launch about 30 EVs by 2025, but prior to that, the German marque will be promoting a number of gasoline-electric hybrids under its sub-brands. It’s expected to comprise several SUVs and two electrified hatchbacks.
In a bid to win the hearts of car enthusiasts, Volkswagen AG’s marketing people thought the hybrid hatches hold the key to letting everyone come aboard the electrified future. This could be achieved by means of spreading the word about electric technologies among fellow customers. Well, hot hybrid hatchbacks can be a lot of fun you know.Read the entire article A hybrid Skoda Fabia RS may be part of VW’s upcoming lineup under e-mobility campaign
Maserati’s current focus is on developing a new model that is far from what people have been anticipating - the new GranTurismo and the production version of the Alfieri.
This is because today’s trend is leaning towards SUVs more than sedans and other types of vehicles, and parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is aware of that. This is why Sergio Marchionne announced that a Maserati SUV will be available in the market by 2020.
The still unnamed SUV will be positioned just below the Ghibli-based Levante, and it will be riding on the same Giorgio rear-wheel drive / all-wheel drive platform like that of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, but with a major difference. Marchionne also mentioned that the new Maserati SUV might be receiving a unique powertrain, but he did not give any more details after. We are also aware that the company will soon be electrifying all their models, starting in 2019. Therefore, it is likely that the Maserati SUV will also be offered with a hybrid setup.Read the entire article New Maserati SUV based on Alfa Romeo Stelvio set to arrive in 2020
After the highly dynamic Polestar 1 two-door coupe – Polestar’s first ever production car -- was recently unveiled, not a few people’s curiosity was piqued as to how much they should shell out to purchase a unit of this 600-hp four-seater hybrid coupe. Sorry to say, but Polestar isn't planning to sell its first production model in a conventional manner. Not yet at least.
According to Polestar’s plan, customers could get hold of its Polestar 1 performance coupe only through its subscription plan. This means that no one will be able to buy the Polestar 1 coupe, but instead they have to become subscribers to the company’s plan. The subscription plan is good for two to three years. Once the subscription period has expired, a subscriber has to return the Polestar 1 to the company, or its representatives would knock on his or garage to pick up the performance coupe.
As for the returned model, it would be refurbished to return it to its near-pristine state, and would then be made available as a pre-owned model also through a subscription plan.Read the entire article Polestar 1 will cost up to $177,000
After months of dropping online teasers, Polestar finally reveals its very first production car virtually. The Polestar 1 is a two-door coupe that gets its design inspiration from the 2013 Volvo Concept Coupe. It then shares an SPA platform that underpins the “90” series cars and the newest XC60. As for the hardware, half of it is derived from Volvo’s SPA, while the other half represents the partnership between Polestar and Volvo that’s made specially for this new product.
Therefore, the Polestar 1 is more than just a coupe version of the S90 Sedan, considering the fact that the four-seater has to step up its game when it comes to the powertrain. Having said that, its hybrid setup gives out an impressive 600 horsepower and 737 pound-feet (1,000 Newton metres) of torque.
Besides that, it comes with a battery pack that can let the Polestar 1 reach 93 miles (150 kilometers). The automaker claims that in terms of range, the sporty coupe can perform better compared to any production hybrid out there. This is also because the coupe’s body is made entirely of carbon fiber, therefore cutting down a lot of its weight, while improving torsional stiffness by 45 percent. There is an electric axle between the rear wheels with torque vectoring capabilities for more power and precise handling.Read the entire article 600 hp Polestar 1 hybrid coupe is officially unveiled, production set to start mid-2019
Everybody’s favourite long roof from Porsche has now been given the hybrid treatment and is now dubbed the 2018 Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo. It had recently been given an additional 136-horsepower electric motor like that of the standard Panamera E-Hybrid Turbo. It’s combined to an already powerful 4.0 liter biturbo V8 with as much as 550 horsepower. Overall, it now produces a combined output of 680 horsepower, making it the most powerful long roof out there. Let us not refer to it as a wagon or an estate since Porsche refuses to call it that. Rather, it’s referred to as the Sport Turismo.
With regards to the efficiency of the 918 hypercar’s hybrid powertrain that has been used here, it is apparently on par with the 3.0 liter version of the Panamera even if it has way more power. What makes it even more impressive is the fact that you can drive this model for as far as 31 miles on a rate of 87 miles per hour without having to use a drop of gasoline. But depending on the type of connection being used, the charging time may vary from 2.4 to 6 hours.
According to the automaker, the hybrid Sport Turismo will be able to hit 60 miles per hour in only 3.4 seconds. To be honest, it doesn’t take as fast for many people to say the full name of the car. What may be a little confusing is the fact that the automaker lists the same acceleration figure for the regular Turbo S Sport Turismo. That’s because a downside of the hybrid powertrain is that it adds considerable weight to the unit.Read the entire article 2018 Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo offers top performance for $223,530
Following its debut at the Auto Shanghai early this year, the 2018 CR-V’s next stop will be next week’s Internationale Automobil-Austellung (IAA) in Germany. Honda’s first electric SUV will soon be posing as a near-production prototype which is to be sold exclusively in Europe. The 2018 Honda CR-V Hybrid will appear together with Honda Jazz’s new Sport trim and Urban EV concept during the two-week event.
The Euro-spec hybrid will be replacing the 160hp i-DTEC diesel as an answer to the current regulations affecting the market of diesel engines. For its design, the Hybrid SUV in prototype form will be very similar to the US-spec CR-V as well as the model previewed earlier in China. The lower LED light bar, in place of the round shaped fog lights, is just among the subtle variations on the exterior to draw the line between the 1.5-liter conventional engine and the hybrid set-up.
Honda is very tight-lipped about the technical details and only revealed that the electrified powertrain will consist of an electric motor and a 2.0-liter i-Vtec gasoline engine with four cylinder that runs on the Atkinson cycle. All the same, the complete specs will surely come out before or after Honda launches the CR-V hybrid in Europe sometime in 2018. Early speculations suggest that Honda’s next SUV will borrow Honda Accord’s hybrid set-up but it is better to trust the company’s official announcement. Currently, the Accord hybrid boasts a total of 212hp output with two-motor hybrid technology that no longer sees the need for conventional transmission. Rather, it only makes use of a single fixed gear ratio to push power down the wheels.Read the entire article Euro-spec 2018 Honda CR-V Hybrid Prototype is en route to Frankfurt
It is already September and we are all excited about the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, more so because automakers have been revealing previews and teasers (online) of models and concepts that will make their debut at the auto show. Today, it is Toyota that teases us with two new crossovers: the Hybrid C-HR Concept and the new Land Cruiser.
The C-HR Hy-Power Concept is a representation of possible additions for its compact crossover’s engine range. Toyota is being a tease, only providing few details about the vehicle, and that is the crossover’s license plate and lower fascia. Having said that, it makes us think that the model has been given a change in terms of design. And during a press release, the company’s spokesperson did say that the people behind Toyota’s European Design Center will give the C-HR a little bit of facelift to emphasize its emotional and powerful look, while hinting that they will be expanding the company’s hybrid powertrain line. That is all we got from the Hybrid C-HR Concept, and that’s sad because there’s still so much we want to know.
As mentioned earlier, the Japanese automaker also gave us a preview of the new Land Cruiser before it makes its debut in Frankfurt. Though they still kept their mouths sealed, they couldn’t help but share some details regarding the range-topping SUV. One thing we are certain about is that it will still be riding on a body-on-frame chassis.Read the entire article Toyota gives hints of hybrid C-HR, new Land Cruiser ahead of 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show
Most automakers are looking into electrifying their current models; that is, if they have not done so yet. But some manufacturers like Ford have offerings that are being overlooked, until recently. This is because the company finally announced that they will come out with at least four new hybrid vehicles by 2019, Ford reveled when asked by Automotive News. For the first time, they will be electrifying future crossovers and SUVs, unlike before where they just focused on hybrid sedans.
To be more specific, the company said that they will be developing a plug-in hybrid version of the Escape, and a hybrid version of the Expedition. Their upscale line Lincoln will also be following the eco-friendly trend with hybrid versions of the MKC and the Navigator - where the Expedition and Lincoln are scheduled for a 2019 release.
But that’s not all they have in mind as these hybrid SUVs will then be followed by a hybrid Mustang as well as the new F-150. We do not know which models will be released first, but we do know that all six models should be launched in the market by 2020. According to Automotive News, Ford invested around $4.5 billion to bring in 13 EVs and hybrids to the market.Read the entire article Ford will release Expedition and Lincoln Navigator hybrid SUVs in 2019
Hyundai Motor Group – including both Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors – has disclosed a wide-ranging plan to introduce 31 environment-friendly models in a new development roadmap that aims to ultimately create a cleaner environment through these eco-friendly vehicles.
While previewing its next generation fuel cell vehicle, Hyundai announced its eco-vehicle development roadmap that entails a multi-pronged approach. This means that Hyundai won't focus its efforts on just one type of eco-friendly vehicle, but will create a lineup that offers various powertrain options like fuel cell, hybrid drive and electric.
Hyundai is pursuing this 2020 plan in response to the growing demand for fuel-efficient, eco-friendly vehicles around the world. As part of this road map, Hyundai will continue pursuing hydrogen fuel cell technology and will exert more efforts to strengthen its leadership in this area. The South Korean carmaker plans to achieve this by putting more focus on improving r&d works to further boost the performance and durability of FCEVs. Likewise, r&d will focus on making the fuel cell technology smaller and cheaper to allow it to be installed in smaller sedans.Read the entire article Hyundai will introduce the Genesis luxury EV in 2021
The persistent trend in the automotive industry remains to be the shift to electric-powered models. While most brands are developing new products to achieving that end, customers and enthusiasts have been accustomed to hearing the word “delay” associated with Maserati.
All that is about to change with the recent announcement of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), Maserati’s parent company, outlining its green program. None other than CEO Sergio Marchionne revealed during a conference call with investors that at least 50% of the corporation’s range will be electrified, in one way or another, by the year 2022.
CEO Marchionne, who intends to retire by 2019, declared that given the fate of diesel in the Europe market, the issue has become mandatory. He said further that there will be no choice but to implement some degree of electrification when it comes to gas engines.Read the entire article Maserati aims to build only EVs and hybrids starting 2019
Buick's heavily altered 2017 Buick LaCrosse was a likeable vehicle when it was rolled out last year, however the declining passenger car market affected the overall appeal of the vehicle especially the full-sizer's standard feature and efficiency. Sales went downhill due to this reason. Now the American automaker is rebounding by revealing that the 2018 LaCrosse will have a tempting upgrade to offer in the form of eAssist mild hybrid system and new transmission in V6 powered models in hopes of attracting more customers into the showroom.
The newest 2018 Buick LaCrosse is geared with a 2.5 L 4-cylinder with an eAssist mild hybrid as the vehicle's standard powertrain. In an economical move, the price will be slashed from $32,990 to $30,490 for the existing sedan that is equipped with the 3.6 L V6 engine. The hybrid model will be available at showrooms this coming fall. The American car maker is still mum on the specific details regarding the hybrid LaCrosse's output.
But Buick commented that the powertrain is expected to upgrade the sedan's fuel economy in the city by about 19 percent which will allow it an estimated 25 miles per gallon in the city and 35 miles per gallon in the highway. The hybrid sedan's 2.5 L 4-cylinder utilizes a motor generator unit that takes the place of a conventional alternator, and a 0.45 kW-hour lithium-ion battery stocks energy for the system.Read the entire article 2018 Buick LaCrosse is available with mild hybrid powertrain as standard
In today’s world, hybrid, plug-ins and EVs are not only trendy as they’re also highly vital. Due to the demand of the market, automakers are forced to adapt to the new norm, turning their cars into electric vehicles. In fact, even hypercars nowadays are becoming a hybrid, just like the Porsche Panamera in Turbo S E-Hybrid. However, some automakers such as Fiat Chrysler are a little behind in this department, which means that they have got to step up their game.
Having said that, there have been a lot of firsts for Maserati lately, from their very first SUV that is the Levante, and now they are going to make use of hybrid technology for that same model, featuring a charging port. Since this is going to be the company’s very first hybrid car, you might be wondering where they got the technology from. To answer your question, it’s Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, another member of the FCA Group, that will lend its PHEV technology to the Italian SUV.
Maserati’s estimate indicates that less than 10 percent of their SUV market will probably choose the eco-friendly version. Therefore, it is impractical for them to develop and build the technology from scratch, which is why they decided to just work with Chrysler Pacifica’s technology, to save them time and money. Instead of going through all the work, Maserati just needs to adapt Pacifica’s hardware to the new application.Read the entire article Maserati Levante SUV will get a hybrid version with Chrysler Pacifica tech
Volkswagen intends to leave the crowd in awe at the Worthersee Meeting (Wortherseetreffen) – the largest VW and Audi car show in Europe – with its new GTI Worthersee concept.
It has been 10 years since VW started its famed show car projects at Worthersee. To celebrate those 10 years, the 10th and latest GTI Worthersee concept was promptly named VW Golf GTI First Decade. This is the first GTI to feature a hybrid drive system – a combination of a conventional engine and an electric motor.
A petrol mill delivers 410 PS (300 kW) of power output to the front wheels while a 48-volt electric motor provides 12 kW of propulsive power to the rear wheels. Interestingly, these two drive systems could operate separately, which means the new VW Golf GTI First Decade could be driven conventionally, or in pure electric mode. Of course, the engine and electric could operate together for an all-wheel drive experience.Read the entire article VW Golf GTI First Decade with hybrid system revealed at the 2017 Worthersee Meeting

BMW just announced that the 2018 530e iPerformance will be getting another option - that is a wireless charging station instead of the standard plug-in.
The iPerformance originally comes with a plug in that is rated at 3.7 kilowatts. With this rate, the 9.2 kWh battery can be replenished in less than three hours with a wall box.
But to ensure safety, charging power through the electric socket is limited, so it will take about five hours to fully charge the battery.Read the entire article BMW makes a prototype of wireless charger for the 2018 530e iPerformance
Is there anything more exciting than a spoiler? Well, for those who didn't know, there are those who have already seen the Mercedes-AMG Project One (in the flesh) way before 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show formally opens its gates this September. This allegedly happened behind closed doors at the recently concluded 2017 Geneva Motor Show.
In keeping up with the excitement, Automobile Magazine earlier spilled the beans concerning the Project One’s powertrain. Rumor also has it that the hybrid hypercar is hiding a 1,020 hp monster underneath its engine. Without further ado, let’s hear out the juicy details on what’s inside Mercedes-AMG’s latest gem.
As reported, Mercedes-AMG is said to be adapting the same engine from its W07 Formula One Car into the new 2-seater hybrid. This type of powertrain with 4 electric motors can produce a menacing 748hp (558kW) at the very least. The first two motors will be sending power to the front wheels while the two other motors will be connected to the crankshaft and turbocharger. Altogether, the four motors can deliver up to 408hp (304 kW), resulting to a combined output of 1,020 hp (761kW). That is to say other hypercars from Porsche, Ferrari and McLaren may have to give way to Mercedes’ wildest supercar to date.Read the entire article Mercedes-AMG Project One hypercar delivers a staggering 1,020 hp
