Bugatti 16C Galibier back on the table?

Bugatti unveiled the 16C Galibier back in 2009 and since then the vehicle was killed several times. Now, Bugatti has a new CEO, Wolfgang Duerheimer who replaced Wolfgang Schreiber, and it appears that the four-door supercar is back on track. If Schreiber clearly said that there will be no four-door Bugatti, Duerheimer says that the project is on ice.

What’s more interesting is that he revisits the Galibier periodically, which means that he loves the project and there are still chances to see a production version of the concept car. Next year, Bugatti will show the official successor of the Veyron 16.4 hypercar, a vehicle that promises to surprise us all.

When unveiled, the Bugatti 16C Galibier Concept was powered by the same 8.0-liter W16 engine with two-stage supercharging that produced over 1,000 hp and was capable to offer a top speed of 350 km/h or 217 mph.

Bugatti Galibier delayed once again

As Bugatti attempts to find out what the markets want from a sedan, it delayed the development of the Bugatti Galibier once again, according to Autocar. The super sedan was first seen as a concept in 2009. It features all-wheel drive and is equipped with a twin-supercharged version of the Veyron’s 8.0-liter W-16 that can deliver “800-900-hp” – a figure that has increased to four digits since then.

Bugatti delayed the release of the four-door super sedan to give the vehicle more power and space as well as to improve its appearance and make it more luxurious. Wolfgang Schreiber, the chief of Bentley and Bugatti, said that the sedan isn’t like to arrive in the market until 2015 or 2016.

Schreiber told Autocar that it’s harder to meet all of the requirements for Bugatti customers than Bentley. Even with the delay, Schreiber still believes that Bugatti needs the Galibier in its lineup, explaining that customers would be excited about a second car.

Video: Bugatti previews the 16C Galibier

Parent company Volkswagen has given its approval for the Bugatti 16C Galibier to enter production. This ultra-luxury sedan was unveiled in 2009 at the Los Angeles auto show. It was powered by the 16-cylinder engine that’s also used on the Veyron. They have the same output of about 1000hp or higher. Nothing much was reported about the model until last April when it was reported that VW has given the green signal for it to be built.

Ever since its introduction at the Los Angeles show, Bugatti and Bentley chief Wolfgang Durheimer had been asking for this car to be produced. After a long lull of no updates about the vehicle, a nearly five-minute video was uploaded on YouTube to demonstrate the features of this model.

The video didn’t show clear images of the Galibier but it did have a lot of symbolism and metaphors. Of course, just the fact that it’s a car with an output of more than 1,000hp would turn heads anywhere.

Bugatti Galibier to receive a new design if it will be produced

As you may know already, Bugatti delivered the last Veyron in June and now the company has plans for a new vehicle. All the eyes from Bugatti are looking now at the Galibier Concept, a four-door saloon, which was designed to be one of the fastest cars in the world. According to the latest reports from Autocar, it appears that Volkswagen Group, the company who owns Bugatti, will decide if the vehicle will be produced or not.

Sources say that if the car will be produced, it will be significantly altered from the concept car originally displayed.

According to Bugatti boss Wolfgang Durheimer, the Galibier is now in the second half of the design phase and will be presented to the Volkswagen Group board before Christmas. Apparently, half of the Bugatti Veyron owners have seen the Galibier and been in the car already. It seems that this move made Bugatti change the vehicle.
