Bugatti 16C Galibier might become the Royale when it will hit the market

By next year, the four-door Bugatti 16C Galibier – dubbed the Royale – is expected to arrive, according to a report from Autoblog.nl. The Volkswagen Group approved the production of this model last April. Offering a four-door vehicle would mean that Bugatti will be exposed to an entirely new market. It’s believed that the 800hp Bugatti Galibier 16C concept will have a different name when it arrives in the market in limited numbers.

In the late 20s, Bugatti built the Type 41, which was better known as the Royale – a large four-door saloon that was exclusively targeted at clients of high birth. Bugatti only made six examples and half of this number was sold back then.

Powering the upcoming Galibier/Royale is a front-mounted 8.0-liter turbocharged W-16 engine that can deliver 800hp and is coupled to a dual-clutch gearbox. The engine block will be kept by the successor to the Veyron supercar but it will use two superchargers rather than four turbochargers.

Bugatti Galibier to be based on Audi A8, says German newspaper

It’s not a secret anymore that Bugatti is planning to build a luxury sedan that will be powered by the same impressive engine found on the Veyron, the fastest production car found on the market. What is more interesting, is that the new car will be based on the Audi A8, according to German newspaper Spiegel.

As we said, the new car will borrow the same engine from the Bugatti Veyron supercar, which means that we will see the an impressive 8.0-liter W16 engine capable to deliver 1001 hp, and has a top speed of over 400 km/h.

The bad news is that the so-called Bugatti Galibier will not receive the same amount of power, because it is a sedan and will be much heavier – it will receive ‘only’ 800 hp. Still, for those who don’t know, the same engine delivers an impressive 1200 hp (882 kW) and a maximum torque of 1,500 Nm of torque in the Bugatti Veyron SuperSport.

Bugatti’s new model has more luxury, less power

If you though that Bugatti will not bring anything new to its lineup, think again as the manufacturer is planning to launch a four-seat sedan dubbed Galibier 16C in 2013.

The new car will carry a price tag of $1.5 million and its production will be limited to 300 units, just like the Veyron supercar (also, we do expect some special edition of the sedan).

The new Galibier will be manufactured using carbon fiber and aluminum, in order to reduce weight, and will be powered by the same 8.0-liter W16 engine but detuned from 1000 hp to 800 hp.

Bugatti Galibier 16C and Parmigiani Tourbillon Watch equals pure luxury

As part of promotions for the upcoming Bugatti Galibier 16C ultra luxury sedan, the company signed a watch licensing deal with Parmigiani that has a unique twist. Instead of merely making a Parmigiani watch branded with the Bugatti name, there will actually be a Parmigiani watch in the new Bugatti Galibier sedan. The timepiece will be known as the Parmigiani Bugatti Tourbillon watch.

The Galibier is said to be priced comparatively with the Bugatti Veyron 16/4. While pricing for both vehicles is over the one million euro point, these two cars have vast differences.

The Galibier is a technological and performance powerhouse, but it will be a luxo-cruiser first, and a sports car second.
