GM is recalling 8,208 Chevrolet Malibu and Buick LaCrosse

General Motors has issued a recall of 8,208 Chevrolet Malibu and Buick LaCrosse sedans (MY2014) over issues with their front brake assembly. GM said in a statement that rear brake rotors might have been installed in the front brake assembly of the sedans, resulting to “possible reduced braking performance.”

The carmaker said that the situation could significantly shorten front brake pad life as well as cut brake system performance, which could heighten risk of a crash. GM said that around 1,700 of the cars with customers and the rest are with dealers. According to GM, it is unaware of any crashes or injuries linked to the problem.

It added that only a “small percentage” of the recalled vehicles would have the wrong front rotors. A spokesman for GM said the carmaker has sent a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration informing the agency of the recall.

GM will recall 38,000 sedans due to problems with circuit boards

General Motors Co. will be recalling over 38,000 sedans equipped with its "eAssist" mild hybrid system to fix circuit boards that may overheat. Such an incident may lead to a loss of battery charge or a fire in the trunk in extreme cases. According to the carmaker, it was aware of the two trunk fires related to the issue but remarked that there were no injuries or crashes as a result of the problem.

Affected sedans include the Chevrolet Malibu Eco, Buick LaCrosse and Regal from the 2012 and 2013 model years. The affected sedans were assembled in the United States before December 2012. Overheating of the circuit boards in the generator control module in some of the sedans may result to several issues like loss of battery charge and the illumination of a malfunction indicator light.

The issue, however, does not involve the eAssist battery. The engine may stall if the warnings are ignored. The issue may result to a burning or melting odor. GM said in a statement that it knows of the generator control board incidents, most of which have occurred within first 1,000 miles of operation.

2018 Buick LaCrosse Avenir has starting price of $45,795

Interested to get Buick’s latest rendition of the Avenir? It isn’t really a range-topping trim as it’s actually treated as a sub-brand. Before it came out as the LaCrosse sedan, this model first appeared as a four-door concept, and was initially introduced as the Enclave SUV. As you know, the Enclave Avenir has a starting price of $53,500, and the LaCrosse will be priced a little cheaper when it finally goes on sale in a few weeks.

Let us get into more detail regarding the prices of the LaCrosse trims. Firstly, the luxurious 2018 Buick LaCrosse Avenir can be had for a reasonable price of $45,795. This makes it $3,700 more expensive than the standard LaCrosse Premium, which has a price tag of $42,095 (inclusive of a destination cost of $925).

Under the hood of the LaCrosse Avenir is the same 3.6 liter engine that can be found in the Premium model. It carries out 310 horsepower (231 kilowatts) and 268 pound-feet (363 Newton-metres) of torque, paired to a nine speed automatic transmission. But since it is priced a little more, expect it to come with some extra features too.

Buick introduces 2018 LaCrosse Avenir premium flagship sedan

There will be, indeed, a new member for Buick’s luxury sub-brand Avenir in 2018. Buick has officially introduced the inclusion of the new 2018 Buick LaCrosse Avenir premium flagship sedan, which it describes as its highest expression of luxury.

Making the LaCrosse sedan part of the Avenir sub-brand was an easy decision for Buick. Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick and GMC, noted that nine of 10 LaCrosse customers are picking one of the top two trim levels, which means that these clients are seeking more from Buick. Alfred quipped that by bearing the name Avenir, the new LaCrosse Avenir offers more content and more elegant appearance all in attainable luxury. The new 2018 LaCrosse Avenir will feature distinct styling cues, an extensive set of standard elements as well as exclusive premium materials.

Just like the recently introduced Enclave Avenir, the new LaCrosse Avenir comes with a number of design cues derived from and inspired by Buick concept cars. These design cues include the distinct three-dimensional mesh upper and lower grille with chrome wings, as well as the Avenir script badging on the front doors. As standard, the new LaCrosse Avenir rides on exclusive 19-inch Pearl Nickel. Twenty-inch Midnight Silver wheels are also available.

It looks like Buick’s luxury sub-brand Avenir is all poised to give birth to a new member in 2018. Buick will be adding the LaCrosse into its Avenir lineup next year, according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Admission, as dug up by GM Inside News.

Presently, the Buick LaCrosse has become a victim of the crumbling full-size sedan market. In fact, with a 204-day supply of inventory, the Buick flagship sedan has shown its weakness – low sales. But things may change if Buick would create a premium luxury version of its flagship sedan and have it don the Avenir badge. Buick is hoping that once the LaCrosse in the luxury car market, the destiny of its low-selling full-size sedan might cross to the greener pasture.

Buick or GM hasn’t confirmed it, but the LaCrosse Avenir was definitely included in GM’s 2018 Vehicle Identification Number Decoder revised and submitted to the NHTSA in September. As indicated in these documents discovered by GM Inside News – in particular in the VIN’s fifth position – Buick is planning to offer two configurations of the LaCrosse Avenir – front-wheel and all-wheel drive. It is expected that the new Buick will be powered by exclusively with the current 3.6-liter V6 engine as mated to GM’s nine-speed automatic gearbox.

Buick's heavily altered 2017 Buick LaCrosse was a likeable vehicle when it was rolled out last year, however the declining passenger car market affected the overall appeal of the vehicle especially the full-sizer's standard feature and efficiency. Sales went downhill due to this reason. Now the American automaker is rebounding by revealing that the 2018 LaCrosse will have a tempting upgrade to offer in the form of eAssist mild hybrid system and new transmission in V6 powered models in hopes of attracting more customers into the showroom.

The newest 2018 Buick LaCrosse is geared with a 2.5 L 4-cylinder with an eAssist mild hybrid as the vehicle's standard powertrain. In an economical move, the price will be slashed from $32,990 to $30,490 for the existing sedan that is equipped with the 3.6 L V6 engine. The hybrid model will be available at showrooms this coming fall. The American car maker is still mum on the specific details regarding the hybrid LaCrosse's output.

But Buick commented that the powertrain is expected to upgrade the sedan's fuel economy in the city by about 19 percent which will allow it an estimated 25 miles per gallon in the city and 35 miles per gallon in the highway. The hybrid sedan's 2.5 L 4-cylinder utilizes a motor generator unit that takes the place of a conventional alternator, and a 0.45 kW-hour lithium-ion battery stocks energy for the system.

If there is something to look out for from General Motors aside from its new vehicles and engines, it is its new nine-speed transmission. Yes, you’re reading it right, GM now has a new nine-speed transmission for its passenger vehicles, and it will make its first appearance in the new Chevrolet Malibu.

In particular, this new nine-speed transverse Hydra-Matic planetary automatic transmission Hydra-Matic 9T50 – developed by GM itself – will debut on the 2017 Chevrolet Malibu Premier that is powered by 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. It will also be available on the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze that is powered by a 1.6-liter turbo diesel engine and the 2018 Equinox with a 2.0-liter turbo powerplant. Also, GM’s Hydra-Matic 9T50 nine-speed transmission will be available to seven more models by the end of 2017.

This new Hydra-Matic 9T50 is derived from GM’s existing six-speed transverse automatic gearbox. GM will manufacture the Hydra-Matic 9T50 at its San Luis Potosi site in Mexico. While GM developed the Hydra-Matic 9T50 to be employed in front-wheel-drive passenger vehicles – both gasoline and diesel-powered – this nine-speed automatic transmission is also ready to be used in four-wheel-drive units.

When talking about the Chevrolet, a lot of people are likely to focus on the Corvette, or even the Camaro. Even then, Chevrolet Performance knew that it should also put attention on vehicles that are considered to be more on the mainstream.

Thus the brand has said that at this November’s 2016 SEMA Show to be held in Las Vegas, it will be coming out with a Blue Line concept version for both Malibu and the Cruze hatchback.

In general, the two concept cars will have aftermarket components that can be bought from dealers through the Chevrolet Accessories catalogue.

It would take an extraordinary director to create a commercial that effectively utilizes the elements of the horror genre to highlight the advanced safety features of the all-new 2016 Chevrolet Malibu and 2016 Chevrolet Cruze.

This creative feat is achieved in a 60-second commercial directed by Sam Raimi, a critically-acclaimed director well-known for his supernatural cult horror series Evil Dead. According to Sam Raimi, the Chevrolet commercial was approached the same way as in movie making – by considering the plot, the characters and outcome.

The only difference is that, instead of the usual ‘anything that can go wrong will go wrong’ plot in most suspense/horror films, the Chevrolet commercial shows that all seemingly-inevitable accidents are all thwarted one by one, thanks to the car's state of the art active safety technologies available in the new models.

Chevrolet announced that it will be offering the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu in five models. These are the L, LS, LT, Premier, and Hybrid models. All of the versions will come with standard features like cruise control and 10 airbags. It will also come with a 1.5L 4-cylinder engine that has a push-button start and the passive entry and fuel-saving stop/start technology.

The 2016 Malibu is Chevrolet’s most fuel-efficient model yet and also the most connected and more advanced technology-wise. Steve Majoros shares that the company continues to focus on giving customers the highest level when it comes to quality and proof of this is recognition from J.D. Power as it relates to long-term dependability and quality.

Majoros is currently the director of Chevrolet cars and crossovers. Majoros adds that its latest offering, the 2016 Malibu, not just offers the latest technological features that other automakers find hard to compete with but it comes with a price that customers will find very impressive.

The new face of Buick has been unveiled at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show with the launch of the 2017 Buick LaCrosse. Among the major influences of this new look are the highly acclaimed Avenir concept seen at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit and the Buick concept that appeared during the middle of the 20th century.

Set to start selling in the early part of the summer of next year, the LaCrosse has a redesigned grille that has a big opening and bears the Buick tri-shield insignia expressed with three colors (red, blue, and silver).

It is fitted with wing-like parts that are emphasized as they’re placed against darker waterfall grille bars that are reminiscent of the 1954 Wildcat II concept. Duncan Aldred, the vice president of Global Buick, said that the new LaCrosse marks the start of the next step in the brand’s quest to conquer the international scene.

The redesigned 2016 Chevrolet Malibu will be offered with a pedestrian-avoidance system. It features just a camera and software and is different from other crash-avoidance setups that incorporated a camera or sensors with radar. Because it is cheaper by a few hundred dollars, GM is able to offer this active-safety feature on mainstream vehicles that have lower prices.

In this system, a camera is set at the back of the windshield that detects pedestrians and alerts the driver of an impending collision. At the last second, the brakes are automatically applied to avoid a crash or at the very least, lessen its severity.

In an interview, John Capp, GM's director of global vehicle safety, said that this camera technology enables the company to install it on a greater number of vehicles. He added that the radar package may not be what everyone wants and so this gives consumers an option.

Chevrolet’s all-new 2016 Malibu was introduced today at the 2015 New York Auto Show and as expected, the redesigned midsize sedan promises to offer more efficiency, connectivity as well as advanced safety features. According to the manufacturer, the 2016 Malibu arrives with a new 1.5-liter turbo engine as standard, that delivers 160 hp (119 kW) and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) of torque.

This engine will return a GM-estimated fuel economy of 27 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. In addition, there is a bigger 2.0-liter tubocharged engine available, producing 250 hp (186 kW) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque. 2016 Malibu 2.0T models are expected to return a fuel economy of 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway.

Chevrolet will offer the 1.5-liter turbo engine with a six-speed automatic transmission, while the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine will be bolted to a new GM-developed 8-speed automatic transmission. The 2016 Malibu Hybrid is the big surprise as it arrives with hybrid technology that leverages components from the plug-in Chevrolet Volt.

Sales are expected to skyrocket for the redesigned version of the Chevrolet Malibu, which is set to be unveiled at the upcoming New York auto show. For almost 2 decades, General Motors has been burdened with the Malibu’s poor sales attributed to its boring features. Now, GM is confident that it will be able to sell 250,000 new units each year in North America alone.

This projection is 25% higher than its sales last year. Sources claim that GM may even sell as many as 300,000 units annually. GM hasn’t given an official forecast yet; however, it told analysts last year that it had a target of 225,000 Malibus for 2016. The new Malibu will take in a profit of $1,500 higher than previous models.

These forecasts show that GM aims to gain a minimum of $450 million added profit for the new Malibu. This profit is equivalent to 41% of the latest quarterly net income of the carmaker. To entice buyers, GM will release ads that will boast of the Malibu’s styling, fuel economy, quality, and numerous features related to connectivity and safety.

Executives at General Motors are already talking about the next-generation Chevrolet Malibu even around year before it is rolled out to the market. Typically, auto executives publicly discuss a future model closer to its launch, simply because it may affect the enthusiasm as well as demand for the current iteration.

In case of the Malibu, however, GM executives don’t worry about dampening the demand and enthusiasm for the current version, as its sales and market share has been in decline since its redesign for MY2013. So far this year, Malibu sales Chevrolet has been trying to revive Malibu sales by offering $3,500 in cash discount and a $189-per-month, $1,369-down lease, according to Kelley Blue Book.

The Malibu has been considered as the weak link in Chevrolet’s product lineup and GM is hoping the next-generation model would fix that weakness. With such situation, GM has been in a hurry to roll out the next-generation Malibu to market about a year from now – which would be faster than the usual cycle for the carmaker. Aside from that, GM executives are already raring to talk about the next Malibu.

Chevrolet has discontinued the mild-hybrid Malibu for the 2014 model year. This means that there won’t be a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu equipped with General Motors’ e-Assist mild-hybrid system. This model was previously available under the Malibu Eco nameplate. This is quite a departure from GM’s initial plans, which initially called for a variant of the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu that has the eAssist powertrain.

Last August, there was still a plan for this model to be introduced. It was supposed to be priced at $26,670 (which includes destination costs). Unfortunately, this plan has been scrapped.

Last Wednesday at a regional press event held in Michigan, Todd Pawlik, the chief engineer for the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu, said that the hybrid model is officially discontinued because of the new base powertrain configuration, which consists of a revised 2.5-liter four-cylinder and a new start/stop system, offering mostly the same fuel economy as an eAssist-equipped Chevrolet Malibu.

Chevrolet is launching a full-scale marketing campaign for its 2014 Malibu that is arriving this week at dealerships, as the carmaker aims to avoid the failure that afflicted the 2013 model.  During a media drive, Chevrolet’s U.S. marketing chief Chris Perry, remarked that they are looking at the campaign an all-new launch, adding that they are making the investment to make the 2014 Malibu a success.

However, Chevrolet’s move is unusual, given that the 2014 Malibu is considered as a so-called mid-cycle enhancement, which usually comes around three years after the launch of a redesigned model. In case of the Malibu, Chevrolet parent General Motors reengineered that vehicle two years early, prompted by the sagging sales of the mid-sized sedan.

While Perry refused to divulge how much General Motors has allocated for the 2014 Malibu campaign, he said that the amount would be similar to a typical marketing rollout for a next-generation product.

Still, GM offers the optional 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine that develops 259 bhp and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque.

The 2014 Malibu 2.5L gets a new six-speed 6T45 transmission, which reduces the energy required to pump transmission fluid, enabling addition fuel economy savings. Additional features on the 2014 Malibu include a revised front appearance, roomier rear seat with 1.25 inches (31.7 mm) more knee room, redesigned center console, suspension enhancements, Side Blind Alert Zone and Rear Cross Traffic Allert.

General Motors has become more assertive in restyling the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu, according to GM North America President Mark Reuss. As a result of GM’s more assertive approach to product development, the 2014 Malibu is now more spacious and more fuel-efficient. GM had to rush the restyling of the model to reverse the vehicle’s sliding sales in the much-important mid-sized sedan market.

Reuss admitted that much of the 2013 Malibu's development occurred prior to GM’s collapse in mid-2009, and that the carmaker was "not aggressive enough" with its styling. According to Reuss, product developers knew even before the spring 2012 rollout of the 2013 Malibu that it would need an accelerated update.

The major enhancements for the new Malibu came just a year after GM launched the 2013 Malibu's highest-volume trim level that is powered by a base 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine – a very early update considering that GM’s so-called mid-cycle updates usually come three or four years after a vehicle is rolled out.
