Buick’s new wagon, the 2018 Regal TourX will come with an MSRP of $29,995 including delivery charges as reported by CarsDirect earlier this week. Its base model or the 1SV trim is set to be the more affordable choice between other expensive brands like Audi’s A4 Allroad, the Volvo Cross Country wagon, Subaru Outback or even Volkswagen’s Golf Alltrack wagon model. Currently, the pricing for some of these wagons start at $45,475 for Audi and $37,145- $42,696 for the Volvo.
The new base model, including the entire Regal TourX range, will pack a standard 250hp and 265lb-ft of torque 2.0-liter turbocharged engine and all- wheel- drive layout. All versions will be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission while the set of 18-inch wheels, active noise cancellation and push start button have also been included in the setup.
For the price of $33,575 (or an additional $3,850), Buick offers the Regal TourX Preferred 1SB with more color options aside from the standard silver, white and black body paints. General Motors is getting ready to unveil its new Buick Regal sedan at the Shanghai Auto Show 2017 in April. But before GM had the chance to do so, leaked images of the new sedan have surfaced.
Actually, we already have a good idea of how would the China-bound 2018 Buick Regal would look like as early as December 2016. At the time, General Motors introduced the Opel Insignia Grand Sport, which will have its official debut this March at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. This new large family car marks the second generation of the Insignia after nearly a decade. The Insignia Grand Sport features a new design made distinct by elegant lines as well as best-in-class aerodynamics. It is also underpinned by a new platform and loaded with new systems and technologies. Of course, it was openly known that the second-gen Insignia would be the basis for the new Holden Commodore and the new Buick Regal, and would be homologated for the requirements in the countries where they would be marketed. This means we could expect some differences in the exterior, interior and the mechanicals of these models.
As the leaked images reveal, it seems that the China-bound 2018 Buick Regal looks very similar to the Opel Insignia Grand Sport. The most glaring difference is found on the front end – the China-bound Buick Regal features the brand’s waterfall grille and the large winged Buick logo on the center. At the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, Opel unveiled the Monza Concept, a vehicle that showed a new design language which will be used on future models. According to Opel’s head designer Mark Adams, the first vehicle to be inspired by the Monza Concept will be the Insignia. In fact, according to Opel CEO Karl-Thomas Neuman, when we will see the new Insignia we will see the Monza.
This also means that the upcoming Buick Regal, which is a rebadged version of the Opel Insignia, will also resemble the Monza Concept when it comes to design.
Still, there are no details regarding the launch date of the future models, but several sources said that the new Buick Regal will arrive sometime in 2017. As you may know already, the current Buick Regal is in fact a rebadged version of the Opel Insignia, which was designed for the European market. The Regal badge returned to the Buick lineup back in 2010, after a six-year break, and it is currently being assembled at GM’s Oshawa, Ontario, plant. Same plant is used by GM to build the Chevrolet Camaro, Cadillac XTS as well as the Chevrolet Impala.
Still, it appears that this plant doesn’t have a bright future ahead as GM already announced that the next-generation Camaro will be built at Lansing, Michigan while its Detroit-Hamtramck plant already builds the Chevrolet Impala.
The Cadillac XTS is a low volume vehicle and the production could be shifted to Detroit-Hamtramck plant too. General Motors Co. will be recalling over 38,000 sedans equipped with its "eAssist" mild hybrid system to fix circuit boards that may overheat. Such an incident may lead to a loss of battery charge or a fire in the trunk in extreme cases. According to the carmaker, it was aware of the two trunk fires related to the issue but remarked that there were no injuries or crashes as a result of the problem.
Affected sedans include the Chevrolet Malibu Eco, Buick LaCrosse and Regal from the 2012 and 2013 model years. The affected sedans were assembled in the United States before December 2012. Overheating of the circuit boards in the generator control module in some of the sedans may result to several issues like loss of battery charge and the illumination of a malfunction indicator light.
The issue, however, does not involve the eAssist battery. The engine may stall if the warnings are ignored. The issue may result to a burning or melting odor. After the 2014 LaCrosse, Buick also introduced today the 2014 Regal and 2014 Regal GS models at the New York Auto Show. Designed to be a sportier and smarter evolution of the brand’s dynamic midsize sedan, the 2014 Regal also introduces new safety features such as the new radar and camera for surround protection, including Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Change Alert, Side Blind Zone Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert and Collision Mitigation Braking.
The Adaptive Cruise Control is also offered. For those who don’t know, this system senses traffic in front of the Regal to adjust speed, including stopping the vehicle in heavy traffic and accelerating again.
Regarding the design, the 2014 Buick Regal comes with new front and rear styling with signature wing-shape LED daytime running lamps and LED taillamps. Inside, the 2014 Regal features redesigned central instrument panel and console along with a new fashion interior trim combination. Buick’s upgraded sedan – the 2013 Regal with eAssist – has a starting price of $29,990, including destination, which is $2050 higher than the 2012 model. Buick announced earlier this year that for the 2013 model year, the Regal will use the eAssist mild-hybrid system as standard equipment. The price increase is mainly due to the addition of eAssist, which was formerly a standalone option that costs $2000.
The base 2.4-liter I-4 has been phased out. Instead, the 2013 Regal is now available with three powertrain options rather than three. Offered as standard equipment is an 182-hp 2.4-liter I-4 matched with a 15-kWh electric motor. Buyers could pay more to get a turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4 (with either 220 hp in the Regal Turbo or 270 hp in the GS). All Regal models have a six-speed automatic as standard. In addition, Buick offers a six-speed manual on the Regal GS and Turbo Premium III as a no-cost option. Buick also made the non-GS turbocharged engine as basically a no-cost option.
Both the Regal Premium I and Regal Turbo Premium I trims have a starting price of $31,520. This represents a price hike of $2145 and $375 for naturally-aspirated and turbo models, respectively. The Premium I package offers passive keyless entry, rear parking assist, and remote start. Going further up, there’s the Premium II package, which comes with features like HID headlights, a set of 18-inch alloy wheels, and a Harmon/Kardon surround-sound audio system. The 2.4-liter or the 2.0T are priced from $32,930, a $2145 hike for the former and $375 for the latter. Buick revealed eAssist, its latest technology for the Regal, at a former power plant turned local hot spot called the Illumination Company. This century-old building in Chicago stands for what the brand hopes to be: trendy, urban and electric.
The eAssist is a mild form of electrification that slightly improves the Regal’s fuel-economy ratings to 26 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. This system was first seen in the LaCrosse at the 2010 Los Angeles auto show.
Both cars are expected to arrive in the summer as 2012 models. Instead of the alternator, this system uses a 15-kilowatt electric generator and it works with a 115-volt lithium-ion battery. What it does is gather energy during regenerative braking and periods of coasting. At the upcoming Chicago Auto Show, General Motors Co. will unveil a Buick Regal that features the e-Assist hybrid system. This will only be the second time that this technology will be applied after the ’12 Buick LaCrosse that’s expected to arrive in dealer showrooms this summer. Sources say that the Regal hybrid go into production by the end of August.
It was over a year ago that the report on the new mild hybrid system for the Regal first came out. With the e-Assist, the LaCrosse’s fuel economy will improve by 25% from 19-30 mpg (12.4-7.8 L/100 km) city/highway to 25-37 mpg (9.4-6.4 L/100 km).
Sources say that the Regal will get a similar boost as standard models of both cars with a 2.4L 4-cyl. engine and 6-speed transmission offer the same fuel economy rating. General Motors is preparing to launch the 2011 Buick Regal CXL Turbo, a model that stands out from its rivals because it is equipped with the Interactive Drive Control System. This device can change the driving dynamics of the vehicle so that it can adjust to the road type. This system enables the shifting of the suspension, shift pattern and steering sensitivity with three presets (touring, sport and standard) resulting to a smoother ride.
Bill Rietow, GM lead development engineer, said that Interactive Drive Control enables the linking of vehicle systems and changes “perceivable vehicle characteristics” as it adjusts to driver inputs. Rietow claims that the driver can sense the difference. The settings can also be customized via its radio configuration menu.
Drivers may choose to switch on or off one of the following features: steering, suspension or powertrain. The demand for the General Motors Co.’s turbocharged 2.0L Ecotec-equipped Buick Regal has been so high that the company has had difficulty coping with the orders for the base models in the US.
Production of this model was launched earlier this week at its plant in Russelsheim, Germany. The model’s portfolio will be expanded with the arrival of the turbocharged Regal in showrooms in late November.
A higher-output version of the 2.0L turbo will go in the Regal GS performance model due in 2011. Christopher M. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave an award to the recently introduced Buick Regal as a 2010 Top Safety Pick. Many tests were done on the vehicle, including having to pass a new roof strength requirement for protection in rollover crashes. This car is actually only the seventh vehicle from GM to receive the award.
IIHS president Adrian Lund said that this award recognizes those vehicles that performed the best in the Institute’s series of tough crash test evaluations. In particular, only those vehicles that have the highest rating of “good” across the board and have the electronic stability control for assisting drivers to prevent crashes can “claim this honor.”

Pricing for the new 2011 Buick Regal that will go on sale in the second quarter of the year has been revealed. The mid-level Regal CXL model has a price tag of $26,995 plus a $750 destination charge.
The Regal CXL will be the first to arrive and it will be followed by Buick's introduction early next year of the 2012 model year several other trim levels including a cheaper Regal CX model and possibly a high-performance Regal GS. Two versions are offered a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter model and a 2.0-liter turbocharged version.

Buick is doing what it can to break away from its image over real handling ad performance. LaCrosse is believed to have started well. The new Regal is proceeding nicely while it's believed that the GS is lagging behind.
But in a webchat earlier this week, Roger McCormack, Buick's product marketing director, told consumers that the Regal Coupe is under "very strong consideration."

Buick intends to capitalize on its performance history from over a generation ago in order to push sales for the 2011 Regal. This model is a front-drive sedan that is German-assembled and is essentially a rebadged five-passenger Opel Insignia. Sales in the US will begin in the second quarter of 2010. The Regal name was associated with several high-performance models in the 1960s, '70s and '80s.
Craig Bierley, the brand's director of product and marketing, said that the Regal would be what could be considered a performance Buick in the last 30 years. There had been variations but Bierley says that whether it's a Grand National, a GS, a GNX, it was always its performance brand. The car started production a year ago but already, the Opel version has been given multiple awards including the coveted European Car of the Year.
